Interview: Transgender “Project Runway: All-Star” Ari South Talks About Inspiration
In 2010, a 23-year-old fashion designer named Andy South competed on Project Runway‘s eighth season and sparred against some wild competition: the histrionic Michael Costello, the deadpan hero Mondo Guerra, the unwaveringly self-assured Gretchen Jones (who won the season, outraging many devoted fans), and the sweet but bizarre Casanova. Now, the studious and methodical South is back as more confident alum for Project Runway All-Stars 3, which premieres tonight, but with a brand new life in tow.

Since South’s last appearance on Lifetime’s reality competition staple, the designer has completed a gender transition. Now, the Waianae, Hi native is a woman known by the name Ari South — a name picked out by Ari’s mother. We caught up with South to discuss pleasing a whole new panel of judges (including host Alyssa Milano), the story behind her new name, and how her personal transformation has affected her work.

Project Runway Castoff Michael Drummond Spills on Ivy, Michael Costello, and Fashion Week
Michael Drummond was Project Runway's reliable quipper this season, popping out Crucible jokes and cat-skinning metaphors with major aplomb. In as interview with Movieline this morning, he was diplomatic enough to declare Andy, Mondo, and even Gretchen his choices to win the season, but I wanted to know about the less-lovable parts of his Runway tenure. Below, the St. Louis native talks about the challenge that got him eliminated, Fashion Week, and remaining cool when Ivy disgraced him in front of the judges.

Ninth designer voted off 'Project Runway'
Michael Drummond has become the ninth contestant to be voted off Project Runway. The 31-year-old knitwear designer and freelance stylist from St Louis, Mo was eliminated from the Lifetime competition's eighth season on Thursday night's episode. "I had close to maybe the time of my life, it was certainly an adventure," Drummond said. "It was an incredible experience and I think a lot of designers would die to have it. I did exactly what I had to do for this last competition and I don't feel bad about what I created. I had a good time and I don't have any regrets." This week's challenge saw the contestants designing a look that personified their own idea of American sportswear, inspired by Jackie O. However, after a day of work, Tim announced that there was a surprise twist - this would not be a runway day, and instead they would (more...

Casanova in Project Runway All Stars (2012)
'Project Runway' recap: Tim prefers the wooly balls
Casanova in Project Runway All Stars (2012)
Welcome back to the Runway! I’m filling in for Missy last-minute, so please forgive my lack of any real insight about fashion. Or maybe that doesn’t even matter! After all, this week we had one of those “unconventional challenges” we all know and some of us love. It was a Cause For Celebration: Create an outfit from materials found in a party store. Obviously, Betsey Johnson was the guest judge and this was perfect because the name of this week’s shopping locale, “Party Glitters,” is pretty much a synonym for “Betsey Johnson dresses.” Not many other designers...

Uh-Oh! Someone Is Sent To The Emergency Room On Next Week’s ‘Project Runway,’ Plus There’s A Thief On The Loose!
Courtesy of Lifetime

Sound the alarm! It looks like one of the Project Runway contestants gets physically taken away for stealing someone else’s design!

The competition is about to get very serious on second episode of Project Runway’s eighth season! “There’s an accusation about cheating,” mentor Tim Gunn tells the competing designers in the dramatic episode. And then … Smack! Someone gets punched in the face, an ambulances arrives, someone gets rushed to the emergency room And someone else gets put on a respirator. Omg!

“You copied my dress,” designer Michael Costello shouts at someone.

“What the hell were you thinking,” says Nicholas D’Aurizio!

“This gift and talent is a curse to me,” cries Mondo Guerra.

“I am a silent assassin when it comes to competitions,” says Andy South!

From what we can tell from the video, it looks as though maybe A.J. Thouvenot punches Michael Drummond.
