Jesse Palmer, the former NFL quarterback who appeared as The Bachelor in season five, is hosting ABC’s reality competition series The Ultimate Surfer.

Palmer, who played for the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers and also hosted ABC’s The Proposal, will front the series with the help of sports anchor Erin Coscarelli and the voice of surfing Joe Turpel as commentators.

Surf champion Kelly Slater is the lead consultant and also serves as a special correspondent.

The competition series, which is produced by Lionsgate’s Pilgrim Media Group and Wsl Studios, was shot at Kelly Slater’s Surf Ranch in Kings County, California.

It features top up-and-coming surfers training and battling it out at the surf ranch with men and women competing in individual and team challenges focused on specific surfing disciplines. Weekly eliminations will leave two men and two women as finalists who will vie for...

The network is unveiling Darkness, a survival show that plunges participants into the pitch black. Inspired by sensory-deprivation training used by Nasa and Special Forces, the show is a grueling challenge of mental and physical survival.

Here’s how it goes down: three survivalists are trapped at different points inside underground cave systems for up to six days. Their goal is to find each other and then find their way out of the cave.

Anastasia Ashley won her first major surfing title at only 16 and conquered the 2010 Pipeline Woman’s Pro in Hawaii. But nothing could prepare Ashley for her stint on Naked and Afraid. Though the surfer and model wisely made a bikini out of duct tape (take that, MacGyver), it didn’t prevent her from being eaten alive by insects.

The pro-surfer/bikini model is currently in Belize after competing on season 7 of Discovery's, "Naked and Afraid." The new season kicks off Sunday on Discovery, but Anastasia's episode will be airing later. She described the nighttime ambush that cut her stay short. You already know the premise of the show by now: two buck naked strangers — a male and a female — are dropped into some of the world’s harshest environments with one survival item each and a canvas bag that covers up very little of the nudity.

But by the time the show airs on the Discovery Channel, it has gone through extensive post-production, editing a 21-day adventure into one episode. Inevitably, some of the footage ends up on the cutting room floor.

For the first time, viewers will get to see an episode as it unfolds.
