Update: This press release is now outdated. Big IP Media are now working with Advertisecast.
Podcast studio Kast Media and production company Big IP Media have teamed up for a multi-year distribution deal for four popular shows that simulcast on podcast and video platforms and a first-look deal for new simulcast projects.
The two companies announced a distribution deal last month for Happy Sad Confused, an interview podcast hosted by Josh Horowitz that launched in 2014, added YouTube to its distribution in 2022, and just launched in video on Spotify.
Kast Media and Big IP Media now add four shows to their partnership: The John Campea Show, The Big Thing, The Dan Murrell Podcast, and Star Wars Explained. A fifth — The Office Virgin, an episodic recap of The Office — produced by Scott Porch and John Campea will launch in the spring.

The reviews are in for Marvel’s “Morbius” starring Jared Leto, and they’re out for blood.
As the social media and review embargo lifted on Wednesday evening for the film, critics took to Twitter to elaborate on what some are calling the “worst Marvel superhero movie in a long, long time.”
“Morbius is a reminder of what many comic book movies were before the MCU: sloppy, poorly executed, and sure to disappoint fans of the comics,” critic Dan Murrell tweeted. “It also contains the worst attempt at universe building in the modern era. Full review later tonight but… it’s bad.”

Alamo Drafthouse will require guests to wear a mask while at the theater once the company opens its establishments.
“When we open, the safety of our teammates and guests cannot be compromised. This is not political,” the statement on Twitter read. “We will require that guests wear masks (except when eating/drinking). Those without masks will be given one.”
Alamo’s statement comes one day after AMC Theatres CEO Adam Aron said the company wouldn’t require guests to wear a mask because they did not “want to be drawn into a political controversy.”

As movie theaters set to reopen, several major chains have outlined their plans to protect moviegoers from Covid-19. But critics on social media say that cinemas are not going far enough if they do not require customers to wear face masks.
AMC Theaters, Regal Cinemas and Cinemark all said in their reopening plans released this week that employees will be required to wear masks and other personal protective equipment, but the same will not be asked of customers unless local or state officials mandate the use of masks in public spaces. Instead, they will be encouraged to use masks, with AMC saying on Thursday that they will have masks available for $1.
But when AMC CEO Adam Aron explained the reasoning behind his company’s mask policy in an interview with Variety, it triggered a backlash.

Box office analysts, critics and even a major filmmaker gave the thumbs-down Wednesday to a major redesign of Box Office Mojo that removed longtime options and moved some data to IMDBPro, parent company IMDb’s subscription service.
It’s the first major overhaul of the site since IMDb, a subsidiary of Amazon, purchased the website from creator Brandon Gray in 2008. The new version of the site significantly resembles IMDbPro, which is now prominently featured at the top of the webpage with the branding “Box Office Mojo by IMDbPro.” And according to the company, some information will be available only on IMDbPro, which costs $19.99 per month, or $149.99 for an annual membership.
Among the information now requiring a subscription are breakdowns of box office performance for various genres, and historical data for Hollywood studios; it’s not clear what else may be locked behind the paywall, but among the data removed entirely...

The internet went into a predictable frenzy after news broke May 16 that Robert Pattinson had emerged as the leading contender to take over the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in a new superhero tentpole from Matt Reeves. While the casting has not been made official by Warner Bros., Variety reports the hiring is all but confirmed as Pattinson “is the top choice and the deal is expected to close shortly.” Reeves’ Batman movie is going into pre-production this summer.
Pattinson’s casting sparked some backlash online from Batman lovers and fans of the DC Extended Universe who don’t think casting the “heartthrob from the ‘Twilight’ movies” is a smart idea for one of the most beloved comic book characters. Pattinson would join actors such as Michael Keaton, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck in playing the Caped Crusader on the big screen. While some fans complained about the casting, many...

Marketing for John Travolta’s “Gotti” went viral this week with an online advertisement that bashed critics as “trolls behind the keyboard” after the film earned a 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. The advertisement claimed “audiences love” the movie — but the number of fan reviews now flooding Rotten Tomatoes suggest “Gotti” has been seen as widely as “Incredibles 2.” And that seems a little, well, suspicious.
“Gotti” currently has a fresh 68% user score, and at this writing, has 7,068 user reviews; “Incredibles 2” has 7,865. “Gotti” opened in roughly 500 theaters and opened to $1.7 million while “Incredibles 2” played in over 4,000 theaters and had a record-breaking $182 million debut.
At an average ticket price of $9.16, that means of the 187,762 people who watched “Gotti” this weekend, 3.76 percent of them reviewed the film on Rotten Tomatoes. For “Incredibles 2,” which had an audience of 19,944,094, its Rt reviewer participation stands at less than .04 percent.

YouTube channel ScreenJunkies has released new content for the first time since creator Andy Signore was fired almost three weeks ago for alleged sexual misconduct. ScreenJunkies film critic and producer Dan Murrell, “The ScreenJunkies Show!” host Hal Rudnick, “ScreenJunkies News” editor-in-chief Roth Cornet, and “Honest Trailers” writers Spencer Gilbert and Joe Starr released a solemn, respectful, 11-minute video on Oct. 26 where they vowed to rebuild trust in the community and thanked fans for their continued patience.
“We’ll be approaching some semblance of normalcy slowly,” said Starr. “I think we all agree that it would feel fake if tomorrow we just gave you a ‘Geostorm’ review.”

18 days after Defy Media fired Andy Signore of ScreenJunkies in response to multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, it has offered a statement indicating its plans moving forward. As discussed in a video featuring all of ScreenJunkies' other hosts, Defy will now begin a slow rebuilding process in order to reckon with Signore's actions and make sure that no other incidents of that sort will ever again happen within its walls.
Signore, the co-creator of the award-winning web series Honest Trailers, was let go by Defy after multiple women shared stories of his alleged predatory behavior. As ScreenJunkies producer Dan Murrell explained during the video, the film-focused channel's employees have spent the last few coming to terms with the fact that Signore, whom many of them considered a friend, was not the person he appeared to be. "It's taken a lot of time for us to process that, to ask the...

It’s been almost two weeks since Andy Signore — creator of the YouTube channel and online movie magazine ScreenJunkies, and senior vice president of content for its parent company, Defy Media — was suspended after several women came forward with allegations of sexual harassment and assault. The next day, Defy terminated Signore — the same day as Harvey Weinstein, and about a week before Amazon Studios’ head Roy Price resigned for inappropriate behavior.
Yet while The Weinstein Company and Amazon Studios work to convince the public that they’re back to business as usual, Defy does little to hide it’s in crisis mode.
On October 8, the day Signore was fired, ScreenJunkies and Defy (which oversees eight brands, including Smosh, Smosh Games, and Clevver) tweeted the official statement announcing Signore’s firing. Since then, those Twitter accounts have been silent and the official Defy Media statement didn’t extend to ScreenJunkies’ YouTube channel,...

Defy Media is on a roll. Shortly after its AWEme channel surpassed one million subscribers, its film-oriented Screen Junkies channel reached that mark as well. Just as AWEme can attribute most of its success to Man at Arms, most of the traffic on Screen Junkies is driven by a single series, Honest Trailers. We returned Defy Media Director of Programming Andy Signore to our YouTube Millionaires spotlight to talk about the Screen Junkies oeuvre. Tubefilter: How does it feel to see Screen Junkies pass one million subscribers? Andy Signore: It feels great! We have so much fun making theses shows, so to know that the audience is connecting to it all and having enough fun with us to keep coming back and subscribe is amazing. I really have to thank some of our amazing team: Editor/Director Dan Murrell, Writer Spencer Gilbert, our host Hal Rudnick and our amazing epic voice Jon Bailey.
