Everett Grant has beef with Russian mobster Maxim Vasiliiv played by Oleg Prudius or if you’re a pro wrestling fan, Vladimir Kozlov. It seems Everett’s security company has been cutting into the Russian mob’s profits and they’re not happy about that. Since Phoenix is an action film, they decide to settle it with a fight to the death. That would be Everett’s death via a bullet to the head made to look like suicide.
WWE wrestler Natalie Eva Marie plays Everett’s daughter Fiona, Phoenix to her friends. She’s told of his death by General Shackleton. She knows he would never have killed himself and decides to put her hand-to-hand combat trainer’s skills to work finding answers.

Even though it’s moving at a slower pace than many would like, the vaccine rollout is starting to gain some traction and in turn, moviegoers are going to start setting foot in theaters — safely of course. That said, the specialty box office space might be hearing some more coin drop into its piggy bank in the forthcoming months. It’s been quite a journey, but we’ll get there slowly yet surely.

Add another entry to the time loop directory with Joe Carnahan’s Boss Level arriving as this month’s installment of what feels like a regular ritual these days. It’s not socially relevant like The Obituary of Tunde Johnson, emotionally poignant like Before I Fall, genre-bending like Happy Death Day, or irreverently subversive like Palm Springs, but it is entertaining. This is especially true for fans (like me) of the director’s Smokin’ Aces since that’s the title this latest work most closely resembles whether by way of its frenetic pacing, eccentric criminals, or blunt yet quick-witted humor. With sardonic narration dripping with the frustration that comes from constantly waking up to deadly assassins ensuring death arrives before 1:00pm each day, it never tries to be something it’s not.

There’s something about a knockout that simply fascinates human beings like nothing else. Watching another person hit someone so hard their body gives way before they even hit the floor is compelling and frightening all at once, which is why the Ufc is such a huge deal nowadays.
Known as the leading promotion in mixed martial arts, the Ufc have had thousands of fights since it began all the way back in 1993, resulting in some of most devastating knockouts in combat sports history.
Despite there being a seemingly endless amount of scraps to choose from throughout its inception, there are a few that simply stand head and shoulders above the rest. From Scott Smith’s incredible come-from-behind knockout win over Pete Sell to Rashad Evans melting ‘The Iceman’ with a crushing overhand right, Mma fans have seen some incredibly finishes over the years.

Ufc fighter Rashad Evans has recently inquired about joining the WWE, reports the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The light heavyweight is almost 35 years old and is currently recovering from major knee surgery. He had already talked about retirement, although the Ufc still expect him to return to action in the fall of 2014. He is a fantastic athlete with a solid wrestling background, although making the transition to pro wrestling is no easy transition.
Evans is thinking about the move because he realises his Mma days are pretty much over. Having witnessed what guys like Lesnar and Shamrock achieved in WWE, the idea of transitioning is appealing, it is a chance to make big money beyond the young mans game of Ufc.
“I don’t know that he’s directly spoken to WWE, but he was talking to people in the pro wrestling business this weekend about the idea.

Though these issues were good for a few laughs, the gamers planning on buying a copy clearly hoped that EA would put in some elbow grease to get the game running without error upon release.
We are disappointed to say that it has been abundantly clear since launch day that EA didn’t iron out the demo’s many issues. There have been several unforgettable feuds within the past ten years for the Ufc. It all started with Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock jawing at one another. Ortiz played up his bad boy persona into his personality to annoy Shamrock. That was followed up by his legendary feud with Chuck Liddell. He even went to the extent of angering Dana White to where they nearly fought in a boxing match.
The feuds continued in the late 2000’s with Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar genuinely hating one another. Then Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson was the next feud that ended up being the most polarizing feud in Ufc history. No season of the Ultimate Fighter did better ratings than Season 10 featuring both fighters. While they did receive a boost from Internet sensation Kimbo Slice, the pay-per-view they fought on (Ufc 114) drew over a one million buy-rate.

Former latte server and, unbelievably, Ufc PPV co-headliner picks up his first win in the octagon.

Remember when Jon “Bones” Jones first burst onto the Ufc scene in 2008? He dominated Andre Gusmao in his debut, threw Tuf 1 runner-up Stephan Bonnar around the Octagon like a rag doll, smashed Vladimir Matyushenko and Brandon Vera, submitted Jake O’Brien and Ryan Bader, then won the Ufc light heavyweight title by stopping Mauricio “Shogun” Rua via Tko in 2011. At just 23-years old Jones had become the youngest champion in Ufc history.
Fans were enamored and enthralled as Jones continued to smash the competition. He made legends look like children and fans began contemplating a super fight between Jones and then reigning Ufc middleweight champ Anderson “The Spider” Silva. Onlookers wondered in amazement if the young upstart could finally be the one to match Silva’s skills inside the Octagon.
Then something happened, not all at once, but fans started turning on Jones. Holes...

Holes...

Although it may not pull in the ratings like it used to, The Ultimate Fighter still serves as a relatively important endeavor for the Ufc. While it hasn’t produced a fighter the caliber of Forrest Griffin or Rashad Evans in a long time, the reality series has introduced people like John Dodson and Kelvin Gastelum to a wider audience. Now, Electronic Arts has revealed that EA Sports Ufc will allow players to run through the Tuf Tournament to determine whether they’re championship material, or just another Kimbo Slice.
Taking the place of the stale career mode present in the Ufc Undisputed series, this game’s version of The Ultimate Fighter will allow customized characters to receive training from Ufc stars that can be used to boost stats and unlock unique attacks, such as Anthony Pettis’ “Showtime” kick. Successfully making your way through the show is a fast track to championship contender status.

The blokes who flex their muscles in Ultimate Fighting Championship and mixed martial arts events are mostly a larger-than-life blend of showmanship and brawn – which explains why they’re increasingly being snapped up by Hollywood. With more and more Mma fighters moving into the movies, I thought I’d take a look at some of the biggest names to have made the crossover.
Tony Schiena
Winner of numerous Mma trophies around the globe, Schiena flexed his acting chops in Locked Down as a framed cop who winds up in jail and is forced into cage fighting by none other than Brit hardman turned thesp Vinnie Jones. Schiena retired from sport after breaking both his ankles (ouch!) but has since found his feet on the big screen working with everyone from Pacino to Van Damme.

Queen Elizabeth II has requested television time to sign what is being called a historic pledge of non-discrimination in the Commonwealth. "We are implacably opposed to all forms of discrimination, whether rooted in gender, race, colour, creed, political belief or other grounds." Other grounds is meant to refer to Glbt people, but toned down to defer to members of the Commonwealth that still have draconian gay laws. While it sounds like a cop out to me, diplomatic sources say "The impact of this statement on gay and women’s rights should not be underestimated. Nothing this progressive has ever been approved by the United Nations. And it is most unusual for the Queen to request to sign documents in public, never mind call the cameras in."
The Ufc's Rashad Evans has come out for equality after talking to his friend Brendon Ayanbedejo. “I've never been a homophobe, never understood what that is all about.

There are plenty of illusions in sports that fans allow to assume reality. We’re all guilty of, at one time or another, telling ourselves that this year is the year for our team. I know I’ve convinced myself on numerous occasions that my team’s latest acquisition would not be a bust even though he is known as an underachiever. And who hasn’t truly believed that their guy could defeat the heavy favorite? That’s what being a sports fan is all about. There is one misconception, however, that we all happily accept as truth because, without it, sports would mean nothing. We can’t be faulted for accepting the blatant deception as athletes themselves fall victim to it from time to time. The professional sports that we live and breathe are not sports at all. They are all businesses that make business-driven decisions to attract the casual fan.

Ufc 156 started fast with the prelims and ended with the Super Fight between Aldo and Edgar. The card was loaded from top to bottom with headliners in each fight on the PPV card. The Fb and FX cards were probably the best set of prelims we’ve seen in the Ufc in years. Mitchell Stucky joins me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (#023) to review all of the action.
Part 1: Prelims
Part 2: Main Card
Summary: In match-ups at the top level of talent and skill, the difference comes down not to meters or centimeters, but often millimeters. Jose Aldo had just enough speed to land first in all of the exchanges in rounds 1 and 2, particularly with his brutal leg kicks forged on the football pitch as an semi-professional player in Brazil.
The narrative changed as Aldo started to tire and Frankie’s timing adjusted to the champion’s style.

In terms of pre-fight greatness and potential, the upcoming main event on Ufc 156 could perhaps be the greatest fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s history. Reigning Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo defends his title against Frankie Edgar. It’s the #4 P4P fighter against #7.
Mitchell Stucky joins me on the Getting Lucky Mma Podcast (#022) to preview the upcoming event.
Main Card Overview
Joseph Benavidez (16-3) vs. Ian McCall (11-3-1): The first fight on the main event is a Flyweight match-up, the bridesmaids of the championship tourney that ended with Demetrious Johnson as the titleholder. Both fighters have good power with 4 KOs each and superior wrestling, but we expect Benavidez to grind out a decision victory with his superior work ethnic and dedication to the sport. “Uncle Creepy” has been far too inconsistent in his last few fights.

Before I write another word about Johny Hendricks, I have a confession to make.
I am biased.
I am an Oklahoma State alumnus, born and raised in beautiful Stillwater, Oklahoma. At the dinner table each night as a young Lucky, we thanked God for Henry Iba, Eddie Sutton, and the entire Smith wrestling dynasty (LeRoy, John, Pat, & Mark) with their 7 national championships and 2 Olympic gold medals. I take great pride in the 34 national champions and 134 individual Ncaa championships of my school and alma mater. And our Johny is part of that bedrock.
When I see a Cowboy wrestler with a freaking spitter on stage at a Ufc presss conference, rocking an epic beard, and his easy going folksy accent, I know that’s my guy. That’s a Good Ole Boy. Now with all of that being said, I can objectively and emphatically state:
Johny Hendricks Is Getting Screwed

There can be no doubt that Anderson Silva is the greatest Mixed Martial Arts fighter of all time. He may very well be the greatest fighter that combat sports has ever seen. At Ufc 153 Anderson Silva was simply breathtaking. The ease with which he dispatched of Stephan Bonnar was truly remarkable. Let’s not forget that Bonnar was the larger fighter and had gone the distance with elite level fighters such as Rashad Evans and Jon Jones. In fact Bonnar had never been stopped in his entire career from either a submission or due to strikes; Anderson Silva destroyed him in the first round.
What is even more impressive is that for most of the first round it appeared as if he wasn’t even trying. Most agreed that Bonnar’s best chance of success was to get Anderson against the cage and use his superior size to rough him up.

The Ufc's Ultimate Fighter (Tuf) reality TV series returned to our screens last Friday night, but arrived with a twist -- as well as the fastest knockout in its history, at just eight seconds. While the show carried the same format and dangled the same prize at the end of it all, the action was, for the first time, live and pretty much uninterrupted and the season will, in time, be far more interactive than ever before, offering fight fans the opportunity to participate and dictate the fates of those inside the house.
A runaway success since its inception in 2005, this latest tweaking should ensure it remains as such, following the odd hit-and-miss season of late. With change comes a period for reflection, however, and now seems as good a time as any to remember and highlight some of the show's very best success stories, if only to provide inspiration...

Americans really love fighting. On Saturday night, many TV viewers flocked to see a mixed martial arts bout between Rashad Evans and Phil Davis. Ufc on Fox 2 -- the second prime-time Mma event on network television -- scored more than twice as many viewers in the 18-49 demographic as any other show that evening. But not everyone is fan. Just a day before Fox experienced its ratings success, New York's state government told a federal judge why grownups pounding each other was a dangerous spectacle and why its nearly 15-year-old ban on mixed martial arts should

Michigan State University is well-known for producing some of the best amateur wrestlers in the country, and Rashad Evans is no exception. During his time there, he not only polished his grappling skills but earned a degree in psychology. Both disciplines have served him well in his career as a Ufc fighter, where he has racked up an impressive record and beat some pretty stiff competition. As he prepares to face Phil Davis at Ufc On Fox 2, let's take a trip in the Wayback Machine to see how he gets the job done.

“Sugar” Rashad Evans (16-1-1) headlines the Ufc on Fox event this weekend, January 28, 2012. His opponent is the new Mma prototype of young, hyper-athletic, next generation fighter, Phil Davis (9-0), a fighter cut from the same cloth as current champion Jon Jones.
Evans has been the number 1 contender to reclaim his old belt for nearly two years now and is the consensus #2 light heavyweight in the world by every reputable poll. He is an athletic, powerful collegiate wrestler with quick hands and good power. By every measure, including his phenomenal record with wins over Rampage, Liddell, Bisping, Thiago Silva, and Tito Ortiz, Evans is a top tier fighter. One of the elites.
Or so you would think, but Rashad Evans has a dirty, little secret. A secret that he’s been able to conceal with lucky timing, wrestling, and quickness. A secret that the casual Mma fan would never know...

On July 29 after a training session at the Renzo Gracie Academy in New York City, Ugo got the chance to quickly catch up with former Light Heavyweight Champion "Sugar" Rashad Evans about his training and his Aug. 6 fight against Tito Ortiz at Ufc 133.
Evans has been absent from the cage since his May 2010 fight against Rampage Jackson and has had a constantly changing set of challengers for his upcoming fight. Initially set to fight for the title against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, Evans decided to wait for Rua as he healed from an injury, but eventually had to pull out of the fight after he himself suffered a knee injury. What followed next was a series of opponents that had to cancel out fights with Evans due to injuries. Ufc 133 will be the first time Evans has stepped into the Octagon in 14 months, an extended break for a fighter in his prime.

After an auspicious debut in the early breakout hits from Guy Richie to high profile roles in Hollywood action fests such as Gone In 60 Seconds and X-Men: The Last Stand, Jones seems to currently be dwelling in straight to DVD territory which is where we find him in Locked Down, a prison based action film released on Blu-ray and DVD this week.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship has come a long way from staging bare-knuckle fights between sumo wrestlers and karate experts on Indian reservations. Over the past few years, the organization — and the sport of mixed martial arts in general — has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon that regularly draws millions of pay-per-view buys and sells out arenas across the country. They have enjoyed unprecedented success and have broken a handful of stars (including Chuck Liddell, Brock Lesnar and Randy Couture). It will probably never be as mainstream as the owners and supporters believe it will be, but it has definitely replaced boxing (and professional wrestling) as the spectator fight sport of choice.
After a few years of interest and several pay-per-view parties, I finally got the opportunity to experience Ufc in a live setting on Saturday night (March 19) when they came to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. It was an...
