‘Moulin Rouge’ Makes Itself at Home at the Pantages Theater, Scoring Show-Stopping Standing Ovations
Image
Click here to read the full article.

Before the lights go down in Hollywood’s iconic Pantages theater for Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s North American tour, the ensemble cast struts around the extravagant set in a preview of what’s to come. With a windmill on one side of the stage and a massive elephant on the other, the flamboyant spectacle fits right in at the Pantages’ lavish theater.

“Some shows come into the Pantages, and they look like the show was designed specifically for the Pantages,” says Hollywood Pantages Theater president Jeff Loeb. “I love watching patrons walk into the lobby who have never been there before, slack-jawed at the beauty of the theater itself. Then you go into the auditorium, and the lighting sets immediately transport you with the theater. It’s a concert with the architecture of the theater. Then the preshow starts and it just...

Inside ‘Moulin Rouge! The Musical’ Opening Night at the Hollywood Pantages
Image
It was a full house for the opening night of “Moulin Rouge! The Musical’s” national tour of the 10-time Tony-winning Broadway extravaganza’s Los Angeles run. The show was stopped shortly after intermission, but for good reason — the audience leapt to their feet for a standing ovation following the mash-up performance of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” Another standing ovation erupted at the curtain call, where bouquets of roses were presented to the entire cast and ensemble.

In this production, Conor Ryan stars as Christian, an American songwriter and poet who moves to Paris in 1899 and finds himself falling in love with Satine (Courtney Reed), the most celebrated performer at the Moulin Rouge nightclub. Austin Durant plays Moulin Rouge owner Harold Zidler.

Check out the photos below of the red carpet, the evening’s performance and the after-party.

Image
Disney Concerts has canceled the fall dates for its Disney Princess – The Concert tour due to concerns over Covid, with plans to reschedule the shows next year.

The national concert tour had been set to launch in Macon, Georgia, on Nov. 1, but all performances originally planned through Dec. 12 will be rescheduled for 2022, Disney Concerts announced in a tweet. The fall tour dates included stops in Red Bank, NJ; Brookville, NY; Pensacola, Fl; Evans, Ga; Louisville, Ky; and Oshkosh, Wi.

The news follows the cancellation last week of performances of Disney’s Aladdin on Broadway through Oct. 10 after breakthrough Covid cases were detected within the production company. The popular musical is scheduled to resume performances at The New Amsterdam Theatre on Tuesday, October 12.

In a statement tweeted today by Disney Concerts, the company said the dates are being rescheduled “out of the best interests for the health and safety of our ticket buyers and their families.

Sara Bareilles on Making Music with J.J. Abrams, Plus Her ‘Rootsy’ New Album
Sara Bareilles
“Waitress” isn’t the only pie Sara Bareilles has baking in the oven.

The California native told Variety at the opening night of “Waitress” at the Pantages in Hollywood that bringing the show she composed, wrote the lyrics for, and starred in–twice–felt like coming home.

“La was my home for 15 years. I went to UCLA, so there’s just a real sense of pride and gratitude to be able to come home and share this project that has been the great love of my life for the last five years with what feels like a very hometown place for me,” Bareilles said on the red carpet.

The “Gravity” singer, who played pie-maker Jenna Hunterson in March 2017 and again in January 2018 on Broadway, recalled when she jumped at the chance to play the titular waitress.

“When Jessie Mueller, our incredible original lead, left the show, there was a part...

Robin Williams, Jonathan Freeman, Gilbert Gottfried, Linda Larkin, Douglas Seale, Scott Weinger, and Frank Welker in Aladdin (1992)
The people who brought Aladdin to Broadway did so without the help of a genie. Capitalizing off the success of the 1992 animated film of the same name, Alan Menken and Chad Beguelin began working on a stage version of the Disney musical. Aladdin premiered at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle in 2011. Jonathan Freeman, who voiced Jafar in the movie, reprised his role in the stage adaptation, while Adam Jacobs and Courtney Reed played Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, respectively. James Monroe Iglehart played the pivotal role of the Genie. Adapting the film for the stage was no easy task. "When people say, 'We knew Aladdin was going to happen,' I say, 'I'm glad you guys did!'" Iglehart told E!...
