The raid, carried out by 15 to 20 officials from the Excise Department three days ago, was prompted by a tipoff but yielded no incriminating evidence. B Unnikrishnan, filmmaker and general secretary of Fefka, expressed concerns about a criminal conspiracy to frame Najeem during a press conference held in Kochi on June 8. “Najeem was returning to his hotel after the day’s work – he is directing a web series for Hotstar now. A new controversy has broken out in the Malayalam film industry as the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (Fefka) on Tuesday expressed its displeasure over the way “some” of the actors behave.
The Fefka is the apex body of 19 different organisations that include drivers to directors and its General Secretary, director B. Unnikrishnan said things are reaching a point of difficulty over the way some actors are behaving.
“Before every film starts, the actors have to ink an agreement which has been cleared by the Amma (Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes), but it has now come to notice that it’s not being done. OpinionThe box office fate of the last few films written by Udaykrishna has more than made it clear that the audience is no longer tickled pink by such regressive, formulaic narratives.Even as a one-liner, Christopher, directed by B Unnikrishnan and written by Udaykrishna, sounds like a fan service superstar vehicle. Mammootty plays a vigilante cop who shoots down rapists in encounters. Considering that writer Udaykrishna (and director B Unnikrishnan) has only crafted hypermasculine narratives featuring men playing the proverbial saviour to women, the execution of the film was on predictable lines – long and mid shots of the stoic hero strutting around the screen in slow-mo, women desperately looking up to him, one-dimensional antagonists, and other shenanigans to glorify the fan vehicle. As usual, despite there being four women actively occupying screen space, they were reduced to mere props. That includes Sneha who plays Home Secretary, Aishwarya Lakshmy as an investigative lawyer,...

Kochi, Feb 8 (Ians) Continuing to enthral audience and fans at 71, veteran superstar Mammootty is all pumped up ahead of the arrival of ‘Christopher’ in theatres on Thursday. He plays a vigilante cop in the film.
Explaining briefly what ‘Christopher’ is all about, he said that he plays the role of a police official and makes no bones about taking the law into hands.
“Every character has a tale and like that Christopher too has one and it moves forward. Now let us see,” said the superstar.
Directed by B. Unnikrishnan who is known for ‘loud’ and expensive films, the two are returning after 12 years and for just the second time. Unnikrishnan is popularly known for directing superstar Mohanlal.
If this film turns out to be a block buster, it would do more good for the director than to the superstar, as it’s been a while that Unnikrishnan has delivered...
