Lady Gaga and producer Bruce Cohen (American Beauty, Silver Linings Playbook) on Thursday were appointed co-chairs of President Joe Biden’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, a board featuring top names across the arts tasked with advising the president on cultural issues.
The committee is making its return after a five-year hiatus, when the board disbanded under the Trump administration in protest of the white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, in which Trump had said there were “very fine people on both sides” of the clash that left one dead. At the time, the 17-member committee sent a letter to then President Trump to decry his “hateful rhetoric” and denounced his efforts to eliminate or severely reduce budgets dedicated to the arts and humanities.
“We cannot sit idly by, the way that your West Wing advisors have, without speaking out against your words and actions,” the letter said,...

“We condemn all attempted acts of violence against media organizations and our thoughts are with CNN for the safety of all of their employees,” Fox News said today after a suspected pipe bomb was sent to CNN, addressed to former CIA chief John Brennan.
Fox News’ statement was part of an internal memo sent by Hr to staff in wake of the discovery at CNN this morning. “We wanted to take this opportunity to inform you that Fox News is taking ample precautions on the security front in our New York headquarters given the suspicious package found at CNN this morning,” the news division informed its employees in the memo, a copy of which was obtained by Deadline.
The memo went out shortly after former New York Rep. Steve Israel, a CNN contributor, blasted Fox News for its coverage of the suspected bomb sent Monday to liberal philanthropist George Soros.

It seems the Democratic Party wants to extinguish the Bern once and for all. Bernie Sanders is facing increasing pressure to drop his presidential bid from party leaders who fear he's hurting Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton's chances of defeating presumptive Gop nominee Donald Trump in the race for the White House. "I don't think they think of the downside of this," Clinton supporter and California Democratic Sen. Dianne Feinstein told The Associated Press of the Vermont senator's campaign. "It's actually harmful because she can't make that general election pivot the way she should. Trump has made that pivot." "I...

During the 2014 election cycle, candidates for the House and Senate raised a startling, combined $1.7 billion, which John Oliver said is "more than it costs to buy 242 million tubes of hemorrhoidal cooling gel and is somehow even more upsetting." During Sunday's Last Week Tonight, the host investigated the distressing methods – namely fundraisers and call centers – used to obtain these funds.
As Oliver explained, the most prevalent form of fundraising takes place at "shitty parties," of which 2,800 were held in 2014 alone. "Washington is like Rod Stewart's haircut: party in the front,...

New York — A suburban New York congressman who represents the area where Bravo films its series "Princesses: Long Island" says the show is "the most objectionable thing I've ever seen on television" and promotes stereotyping of Jews.
The network should show a disclaimer before every episode to say there's nothing real about the nonfiction show, said Rep. Steve Israel, a New York Democrat.
Bravo said Friday the new series has averaged just over 1 million viewers over three airings on Sunday nights, which is considered a very successful start. "Princesses: Long Island" is reminiscent of MTV's "Jersey Shore" in focusing on a small subculture, in this case six young, unmarried women who are generally of comfortable means with plenty of idle time.
One of the women, Ashlee White, is nearly 30 and lives at home where her parents cook her food and do her laundry. She's looking for Mr. Right, but has high standards.

More than 40 Hollywood politicos -- including Barbra Streisand, James Brolin and Haim Saban -- gathered Thursday night at a closed-door meeting at Norman Lear's Westside mansion, where they heard Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi lay out the party’s plans for recapturing the House in the 2014 mid-terms. "The message was: 'We have to start now,'" one attendee said. "We have a year, and these races are going to be close. They're looking to Hollywood for support." Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Rep. Steve Israel (D-ny) slammed those advancing the notion that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s concussion and subsequent blood clot were staged. Some have claimed that the concussion which hospitalized Clinton has conveniently allowed her to avoid testifying before Congress regarding her knowledge of the deadly attack on an American consulate in Libya. Israel called this a conspiracy theory and said that the same people embracing this theory have alleged that the moon landing was a sham.
