It being a British film, The Disappearance of Alice Creed features characters with impeccable manners, relatively speaking. The kidnappers who snatch the title character, after all, always address her as "Miss Creed," even when they're holding a gun to her head or a knife to her throat. But their intent is deadly serious. Written and directed by J Blakeson, Alice Creed is a wonderfully tense little exercise in the mathematics of three -- as in: How many different alliances, betrayals and conflicts can you extrapolate out of a gritty little crime story with only three characters? Yet Blakeson never paints himself into a corner. You're guessing who will emerge victorious -- or even alive -- right up until the finale. It's taut, tight and not a little thrilling. We initially only see two characters: Vic (Eddie Marsan) and Danny (Martin Compston), first glimpsed going...

And now, to give another taste, Twitch has just received three exclusive images from the film, one dedicated to each of stars Gemma Arterton, Eddie Marsan, and Martin Compston. Check out the gallery below for those plus the links for earlier coverage. Don't miss this one!

I don't know if I love or hate the fact that studio's are starting to show off the first five minutes of a film. I just got finished watching the first five minutes for the film The Disappearance of Alice Creed, and I'm 100% hooked! I'm pissed off that I can't watch the rest of the movie right now, it looks like it's gonna be a great thriller. There's a lot of intensity built up in the first part of this movie. This definitely looks like a film worth watching.
Official Synopsis:

How confident are Us distributors Anchor Bay in J Blakeson's UK thriller The Disappearance of Alice Creed? Confident enough that they're giving you the first five minutes more than a month before its August 6th release in theaters and on VOD. And they've got good reason to be ...
We've been very outspoken supporters of this one since we saw it at the Toronto International Film Festival. I personally went as far as to say that I think Blakeson could be the next Danny Boyle. It's a tight, nasty little piece of work and it certainly doesn't hurt that Gemma Arterton (Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans, Prince of Persia) and Eddie Marsan (Sherlock Holmes) have both seen their Us star value rise considerably in the months between the festival premiere and public release. You'll find the synopsis below and the first five minutes below that.

Two men — one in his twenties, the other nearer forty, both intensely focused on the task at hand — line the inside of a transit van with plastic. And another interesting sounding project from the UK landed in our inbox today, this one entitled The Disappearance of Alice Creed. It's the first feature from writer/director J Blakeson, and there are only three characters in the entire film.
As a bit of background on Blakeson, since 2001 he has worked predominantly as a screenwriter, sometimes in collaboration with James McCarthy. He has written feature scripts across many genres for a number of companies including Mission Pictures, Working Title, and Shine Pictures. Most recently he and McCarthy wrote The Descent: Part 2 for Celador Films.

Too many coincidences to count this weekend. The Disappearance of Alice Creed has a very similar sounding premise to that of Jason Horton's Trap, where a young girl is kidnapped, but then turns the captors against themselves. Writer, producer, and actor Neil Green told this reviewer that there are only really twelve stories that can be told i.e. man vs. nature, man vs. man etc. The appearance of Trap and The Disappearance of Alice Creed in the same week makes this statement true. Other details on The Disappearance include an April 30th release date in the United Kingdom with distribution rights already sold for North America (theatrical). Have a look at the synopsis here for The Disappearance and read the review for Horton's Trap below, sound similar?

While posting the new UK trailer for J Blakeson's The Disappearance of Alice Creed our own Al Young commented on how I personally have a fondness for this tight little thriller. That's certainly one way of phrasing it. The way I tend to phrase it, however, is that I think Blakeson has the potential to be another Danny Boyle. And given the respect I have for Boyle - rather a lot - and fondness for Boyle's debut Shallow Grave - even more - that's saying something.
In fact I like it enough that when I saw Al had posted the trailer I went looking to see if any other materials had arrived and what I found was the following clip of Gemma Aterton as the titular Alice being forced to record a video ransom demand for her father.
