Radio and podcast giant Audacy has conducted another round of layoffs.

Media reports have estimated the number of layoffs in the hundreds, with a number of radio hosts at stations across the country, as well as content producers for Audacy, posting on social media about being laid off.

“Audacy has made workforce reductions to ensure a strong and resilient future for the business. We are streamlining resources to stay competitive in a rapidly evolving media landscape and to best position Audacy to continue serving listeners and advertisers with excellence,” the company said in a statement.

Radio broadcaster Audacy issued sweeping layoffs this week that have impacted at least 100 workers in local and national radio operations, according to multiple sources who spoke with The Desk on background.

Two sources familiar with the company’s plans said the layoffs affected national, regional and local operations, and spanned across job titles, including human resources, accounting and payroll, creative services, on-air talent, digital content producers and other workers.

Many of the affected workers were informed about their layoffs this week, the sources said, and others are expected to be told in the coming days. While the initial tally was around 100 workers affected, one source said the total number of people who may lose their jobs could exceed 300 by the end of mid-March.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Audacy issued a statement to reporters that confirmed the layoffs, without citing a specific number of employees affected.

A federal judge in Texas has signed off on Audacy’s plan to restructure a majority of its debt, a move that will allow the radio broadcast giant to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the near future.

As part of the plan, Audacy will divvy up around $1.6 billion in debt among its creditors, bringing its overall debt load from $1.9 billion to a more-manageable $350 million.

The plan will also see a George Soros-backed investment fund acquire around $400 million in debt, which the group will swap for stock in Audacy, as reported by The Desk and other publications last week.

An investment fund founded by billionaire George Soros is set to become the largest individual shareholder of troubled radio broadcaster Audacy.

This week, Audacy disclosed to a federal court overseeing its Chapter 11 bankruptcy case that Soros Fund Management acquired around $400 million worth of debt and plans to swap those loans for stock in the radio company.

“The decision by our existing and new debt-holders to become equity holders in Audacy represents a significant vote of confidence in our company and the future of the radio and audio business,” a spokesperson for Audacy said in a statement.
