As players await for any sign of confirmation or leaks on Ghost of Tsushima 2, players have some relief, albeit after having waited for eons, in the PC version of Ghost of Tsushima 1, arriving 16th May, 2024. Sucker Punch delivered a masterpiece of a game in 2020, one that players still revisit and discover new secrets or even master combat on.
Upon its arrival, the game had a shadow cast upon its back- “An Assassin’s Creed Japan game”. While it is flattering to a degree, Ghost of Tsushima set itself apart from the likes of Assassin’s Creed. Whether it was the clever use of Guiding Winds for traversal, the map not being unusually large and tedious to complete, or the combat having excellent variety.

George Clooney’s existential sci-fi drama, “The Midnight” Sky,” moved a step closer in the VFX Oscar race Tuesday, taking top honors at the 19th annual Ves Awards. The Netflix film (with VFX by Framestore) also earned the model award for the Aether spacecraft. It’s truly a measure of the pandemic that the 19th annual Ves Awards (to be held virtually on April 6) was dominated by Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” with 13 nominations (topped by photoreal episode). Like the Oscar shortlist, there was an absence of big budget, VFX-intensive studio films. But, truth be told, Season 2 of Jon Favreau’s engaging “Star Wars” bounty hunter series offered the industry’s most innovative tech (wrapped around Industrial Light & Magic’s improved StageCraft virtual production system).

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ghost of Tsushima creative directors Jason Connell and Nate Fox discussed how the works of legendary film director Akira Kurosawa influenced the upcoming PlayStation 4 game.
“We have this great game that transports people back to feudal Japan and Akira Kurosawa was one of our reference guides, especially early on about how we wanted it to feel,” Connell explains. Fox expands upon that idea by describing how the team used specific Kurosawa films as direct influences.
“I think one that is just crystal clear is the movie Sanjuro,” Fox says. “It’s a film that features, at the very end of it, a standoff between two samurai. The tension that those two warriors have, they wait for the other to make a first move and then one of them dies with just one stroke of his sword. We tried to translate that into the standoff in our game very directly.

InFamous: Second Son is by far one of the best looking next generation titles releasing so soon, but it has a trick up its sleeve. The game is utilizing the same engine as previous titles.
Jason Connell, Sucker Punch Tech Art Lead, is answering fan questions about technical assets to the upcoming InFamous page. One of the questions asked by a fan was "what engine did you guys use to create the upcoming game?" The answer was simply put that they utilized the same engine the team built for their previous titles, but expanded up on it. He also noted "We have our own expression based particles engine that our VFX team created and used."
I asked my own question as I was curious how long it took to put some of the scenes together, so I asked just that. He replied that it could take them anywhere from 20 minutes...
