Remember the "Mr. Mercedes" TV series? Few might.
"Mr. Mercedes" ran for 30 episodes over the course of three seasons from 2017 to 2019. It was a detective series starring Brendan Gleeson, Harry Treadaway, Justine Lupe, Kelly Lynch, and Mary-Louise Parker, and it was based on a trilogy of hard-boiled novels -- "Mr. Mercedes," "Finders Keepers," and "End of Watch" -- written by Stephen King in 2014 and 2015. The books began with the story of a retired homicide detective named Kermit "Bill" Hodges (Gleeson) who became involved in a serial killer case he was never able to close while still active. They got weirder from there.
The show was developed by TV superstar David E. Kelley, and was pretty well received by viewers and critics. The first season sports an 84% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on a scant 29 reviews. The second season got a full-on 100% approval rating, but only four reviews were published.

Penny Dreadful is one of those series that’s ardently beloved by its fanbase but remains underrated in the general sphere. Unique and ambitious to the point of fearless and unafraid to indulge in a smorgasbord mixture of soap opera delights, creator and writer John Logan fills his Gothic horror monster mash with complicated moral ambiguity, unrepentant gore, equally unrepentant sex, an impeccable atmosphere, and an ensemble of figures from classic literature that reside in the public domain. We have Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) and his Creature (Rory Kinnear), Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), and eventually, the big bad vampire himself — Count Dracula (Christian Camargo).

In Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, Alison Pill played cyberneticist Agnes Jurati, a role she reprised for Season 2, but with a bit of a different take. At the end of Season 2 of Picard, Jurati was assimilated by the Borg, becoming a new, not-so-evil Borg Queen. Now, per Screen Rant, the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World actress says she’d come back to Trek if she were called.
Pill is currently starring in Young Werther, a romantic comedy from director José Avelino Gilles Corbett Lourenço. She said she’s not under any type of contract to return but would be open to the prospect of coming back to the Star Trek franchise.
“If I was on a retainer, I could pay my mortgage and just wait for Star Trek to call!” Pill said. “Then I could spend summers eating gelato! No, there is no retainer. But I would happily revisit Jurati Borg Queen any time.

Playing an investigative journalist who just so happens to become bonded with an alien symbiote in 2018s Venom or stepping into the shoes of a hardened, charismatic leader of a biker gang in 2024s The Bikeriders is one thing. Stephen King is one of the biggest names in horror entertainment and among the most renowned authors today. His creative mind and excellent writing abilities have resulted in dozens of film adaptations of his popular novels and a few written exclusively for the screen. There's no denying that King is a household name among horror fans. However, his abilities as a talented actor aren't talked about nearly enough.
He hasn't had an extensive career in acting, with his role in Creepshow in 1982 being his most substantial screen performance to date. Despite this, King is well-known for cameos in many of his most iconic movie adaptations, including Pet Sematary and It: Chapter Two. In addition, he's made some notable appearances in popular TV shows such as The Simpsons. Known for representing his dark themes and impressive skills in comedic roles, these are some of King's best cameos.

Jeri Ryan's kindness and talent impressed Peyton List during their fight scene in Star Trek: Picard season 1. The dramatic fight between Narissa and Seven of Nine was only a small fraction of what was rehearsed. The epic battle in the season finale was extensively choreographed but only a fraction made it to air.

On August 9, 2017, a TV show premiered with two huge names attached — Stephen King (one of the most successful writers alive) and David E. Kelley (one of the most successful TV creators alive) — and no one saw it. That show? Mr. Mercedes, an adaptation of King’s 2014 novel, the first in a trilogy about a detective named Bill Hodges and the psychopath that got away. But while your mileage may vary when it comes to the book — and the work of Kelley, who created shows like The Practice and Ally McBeal — neither of them are to blame. The problem was that it premiered on the Audience Network, a pay channel owned by AT&T that nobody knew how to find.
After the Audience Network folded in 2020, Mr. Mercedes, which somehow managed to get three full seasons, rolled over to Peacock. A good thing, too, as it’s got a cast to die for — Brendan Gleeson,...

The Star Trek franchise often brings back previously introduced alien races, and one of them, the Sikarians, saved Picard and Soji in Picard season 1, episode 6. The Sikarians initially refused to share their spatial trajector technology with Voyager due to their laws and concerns over potential misuse, similar to the Prime Directive. The Borg eventually assimilated the Sikarians and used their technology for their own purposes, including equipping the Borg Queen with an emergency means of escape. However, the trajector technology ended up being used for good to save Picard and Soji, which might have brought some comfort to the Sikarians.

The Romulan Star Empire is the most insidious enemy of Star Trek's United Federation of Planets, and a small number of Romulans have joined or managed to infiltrate Starfleet. The Romulans were among the first alien adversaries introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series. They gained greater prominence in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. A Romulan named Nero (Eric Bana) was the main villain of J.J. Abrams' 2009 Star Trek reboot movie, and the Romulans were also the big bads of Star Trek: Picard season 1.

Narek (Harry Treadaway) and Narissa (Peyton List) were Star Trek: Picard season 1's most interesting villains, but their potential was wasted by season 1. Star Trek: Picard season 1 centered on a Romulan conspiracy to wipe out synthetic life in the universe. Narek's mission was specifically to glean the location of Coppelius, the homeworld of androids, from Soji (Isa Briones), who initially wasn't aware she was synthetic. Unfortunately, Narek and Narissa's outcomes turned out to be disappointing.
Narek and Narissa were the first brother-sister Romulan Tal Shiar agents in Star Trek. The siblings served the Zhat Vash, a secretive sect within the Tal Shiar dedicated to wiping out synthetic life. Narissa was also a mole in Starfleet like her superior officer, General Nedar (Tamlyn Tomita). Nedar posed as Commodore Oh, who rose to become Starfleet's Chief of Security, while Narissa disguised herself as Lt. Rizzo. Narek and Narissa had an intimately antagonistic relationship with a sexually-charged undercurrent.

Commodore Oh (Tamlyn Tomita) was the main villain of Star Trek: Picard season 1, but the damage she did to Starfleet was never dealt with or reconciled. Commodore Oh was revealed to be a Romulan mole; her real name was General Nedar, and the Vulcan/Romulan hybrid was a member of the android-hating Tal Shiar sect called the Zhat Vash. By Star Trek: Picard season 1's 2399 timeframe, Commodore Oh had been Chief of Starfleet Security for a decade, and her secret Romulan agenda changed the course of the galaxy.
By the end of Star Trek: Picard season 1, General Nedar dropped her Commodore Oh disguise to lead the Romulan fleet against the synthetics living on Coppelius. Nedar's goal was to annihilate the androids and to prevent them from contacting the other-dimensional artificial lifeforms who wanted to wipe out organic life in the galaxy. Many issues plagued Star Trek: Nemesis but boring Romulans shouldn't have been one of them considering the film was written by the Academy Award-nominated writer of Gladiator. The final Star Trek: The Next Generation film, Star Trek: Nemesis was based around Shinzon (Tom Hardy), a clone of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), trying to destroy the United Federation of Planets. Star Trek: Nemesis also introduced the Remans and brought the Romulans to the forefront as major villains in a Star Trek movie, but neither race came off as menacing as intended.
John Logan, a good friend of Brent Spiner, was hired as the writer of Star Trek: Nemesis, but he failed his own Romulan characters. Logan is a lifelong Star Trek fan and since he was fresh of an Oscar nomination for writing Gladiator, which won multiple awards including the Best Picture Oscar, so he seemed ideal to mastermind the new Star Trek movie.

“I really believe that music is the heart of the narrative,” declares Emmy-winning composer Jeff Russo about the power of a great film or TV score. “It’s our responsibility to be the undercurrent to what the feeling of the story is; whether that feeling is love, hate, tension, anxiety. Any one of those feelings that the characters get to feel during the story should be underscored by us and brought out to a certain degree,” he says about the composer’s primary role. “Part of what I think a composer’s job is as well is to figure out where to not put music, not necessarily always where to put music, because a lot of times, the absence of music can also evoke certain feelings.”

Exclusive: Accusing AT&T of “callous gamesmanship,” SAG-AFTRA has filed suit against the giant media and telecommunications conglomerate in a dispute over nearly $5 million in residuals and other compensation allegedly owed to actors who appeared on Mr. Mercedes, the TV series based on the Stephen King novel that starred Brendan Gleeson and Harry Treadaway.
The show aired from 2017-19 on AT&T’s now-defunct Audience Network.
AT&T, however, says that it doesn’t owe the union anything and wants SAG-AFTRA to repay the nearly $700,000 that it “mistakenly” paid the union during a failed two-year-long arbitration over the show’s unpaid residuals.
SAG-AFTRA’s lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles (read it here), seeks to compel AT&T and several other named defendants involved in the show’s production – including DirecTV and Labc Productions – “to complete an arbitration that AT&T abandoned after actively participating in...

Last Night In Soho Writer Remembers Penny Dreadful: 'We Were Just Too Soon, Weren't We?' [Exclusive]

Once upon a time, in the mid-2010s, there was a little Showtime series called "Penny Dreadful." That series, loosely based on the "penny dreadful" magazines of the Victorian period, was a beautiful gothic nightmare. Viewers were enraptured with the stories of Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney), Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), adventurer Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton), possibly possessed Vanessa Ives (Eva Green), and howling hottie Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett). "Penny Dreadful" was like a truly excellent adaptation of "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen," mixing public domain gothic characters to delightful conclusions.
The series, created by Jon Logan and Sam Mendes, only ran for three seasons. The...

Mr. Friendly’s Frosteez has a new driver scooping ice cream for the kids and smiley-faced tennis balls for the older crowd. A certain 2003 Mercedes-Benz S 600 sports a new color. And Mr. Mercedes has a new home. The Stephen King detective series will be getting a second life at Peacock. While Mr. Mercedes season 3 ended with a vague tease the serial killer at the heart of the series may be starting anew as the Supreme Electronix co-worker who took him out, Peacock is keeping the series exactly as it originally ran before Audience Network was shut down.

Mr. Mercedes has found a new home in NBCUniversal’s recently launched premium streaming platform, Peacock.
The move to Peacock yields a new lease on life for Mr. Mercedes, the Stephen King adaptation crime series, which started life in 2017 as a broadcast offering on the AT&T-owned, DirecTV-exclusive Audience Network, only to be left derelict with an uncertain future after the channel’s dissolution this past January. Updated: The first three seasons of “Mr. Mercedes” have been acquired by Peacock.
The show previously aired on Audience Network but that network was shut down by AT&T in January, leaving the show’s remaining scripted shows in limbo. “Mr. Mercedes” aired its third season late last year, with the series having received strong critical acclaim throughout its run.
As part of the deal, Seasons 1 and 2 of “Mr. Mercedes” will stream exclusively on Peacock. Both of those seasons will debut on Oct. 15 on the streamer, while the premiere date for Season 3 is yet to be determined.
Based on the New York Times Best-Selling Bill Hodges trilogy by Stephen King, “Mr. Mercedes” follows a retired detective (Brendan Gleeson) who is tormented by a serial killer (Harry Treadaway) through a series of letters and e-mails, causing him to set out on a dangerous and potentially felonious crusade to protect his loved ones and himself.

The film trilogy adapting R.L. Stine’s Fear Street book franchise is officially relocating its ominous traffic to streaming giant Netflix.
A deal has been closed that will see Netflix acquire the Fear Street films from Disney, reports Deadline. The plan now is to premiere each of the interconnected film entries—all directed by Leigh Janiak—in Summer 2021 at the interval of a month apart. Netflix’s early marketing plans will see the trilogy heralded by a campaign dubbed “The Summer of Fear.” While a solid release date was not provided, the summer window seems solid and shouldn’t be susceptible to Covid-dealt delays, since principal photography on the films has already wrapped.
While fans of Stine’s Fear Street—the author’s slightly-scarier, somewhat-sexified teen-aimed alternative to his signature Goosebumps books—certainly embraced this live-action adaptation, the film trilogy project was passed off by the coalition of 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment,...

Nearly two decades after he last played USS Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart admits he was initially wary to assume the mantle of the legendary Star Trek character again. “You know, there have been other interested parties, I say that very politically, over the past 18 years who have approached me about reviving Star Trek: The Next Generation or Star Trek: Picard or something like that,” he said during Deadline’s virtual Contenders Television event. “I always thanked them kindly and moved on,” he added, stressing how proud he was of the Tng tales told on both the small and big screens from 1987-2002.

Aside from a few wobbles, Star Trek: Picard delivered what it promised. We got to see Patrick Stewart’s beloved Captain Jean-Luc Picard return for more adventures, reuniting with several The Next Generation buddies along the way. I particularly enjoyed Isa Briones’ Soji, Michelle Hurd’s Raffi Musiker and Harry Treadaway’s scheming Romulan secret agent Narek.

We’re heading into Emmy Awards season, and CBS is starting up its “For Your Consideration” campaign on many of its shows. Trek fans will be pleased to know that the network is pushing hard on Star Trek: Picard, which aired its smash hit debut season earlier this year. Fan and critical response was positive for the bold Next Generation sequel series, and CBS is hoping to turn that into a swathe of Emmy nominations for the cast and crew.
As well as suggesting the show for Outstanding Drama Series, the campaign to get the one and only Sir Patrick Stewart a nom for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series is leading the way. Stewart has received four Emmy nominations over his illustrious career, but never for Trek, so it would be a big deal if he could get some recognition for Picard.

It’s fair to say that Star Trek: Picard has proven to be a runaway success for the Powers That Be over at CBS.
Even before the premiere of season 1’s two-part finale, “Et in Arcadia Ego,” CBS issued the green light on season 2, sparking speculation that Picard‘s second chapter would feature even more fan-favorites from The Next Generation. That remains to be seen, of course, but during a recent interview with ComicBook.com, William Riker himself, Jonathan Frakes, hinted at potentially returning to direct future episodes of Star Trek: Picard.
If you’ve been paying close attention to Picard‘s maiden voyage, you’ll know Frakes helmed both “Absolute Candor” and “Stardust City Rag,” so he’s certainly a prime candidate for CBS’ roster of filmmakers going into the second season.

Harry Treadaway’s Romulan spy Narek was one of the more interesting characters in Star Trek: Picard. The Romulan Zhat Vash agent showed his duplicitous, manipulative nature by tricking Isa Briones’ Soji into revealing the location of the synthetic homeworld. But he found himself torn between his genuine feelings for her and his Romulan extremist philosophy. By the end of the series, he’d teamed up with the heroes in an attempt to stop Soji summoning the apocalypse and, while he’s absolutely not a good guy, he’s still got some interesting complexities.
All of which made it a bit of a head-scratcher that Narek just disappeared during the season finale’s final scenes, leaving viewers wondering where the hell he went. Now, however, showrunner Michael Chabon has opened up about this on Instagram, admitting to the error and saying what should have happened.
“Yeah. Narek. We know, we know.

Now, however, showrunner Michael Chabon has opened up about this on Instagram, admitting to the error and saying what should have happened.

CBS All Access officially greenlit Star Trek: Picard Season 1 before the first season had aired a single episode. According to Deadline, which first broke the report, Season 2 will consist of 10 episodes. This is the same as Season 1, which just finished airing. If you’ve yet to check it out, you can watch it for free through April 24th.
The series will lose its season 1 showrunner for its second season, as Michael Chabon will step down to work on a different TV series for CBS’ sister network Showtime: an adaptation of his Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay. Chabon will stay on as an executive producer for Picard season 2 alongside Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, Patrick Stewart, Terry Matalas, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth, with Aaron Baiers and Kristin Beyer serving as co-executive producers.

Has it been 10 weeks already? Star Trek: Picard reaches the end of its first season this Thursday, with the grand conclusion to the two-part finale storyline “Et in Arcadia Ego.” Last episode, we saw the situation escalate massively, with the Synths deciding to launch an attack on the galaxy before the Romulans kill them first, apparently fulfilling the prophecy that Data’s descendants would bring doom to all organic life, after all.
These six new promo images (see the gallery below) give us our first look at the season finale, checking in on Sir Patrick Stewart’s Starfleet legend, Santiago Cabrera’s Chris Rios, Allison Pill’s Agnes Jurati as well as the villainous Narek and Narissa (Harry Treadaway and Peyton List). While the Romulans scheme and his friends try their best to temper tensions, Picard is clearly bearing the weight of the war that he might have inadvertently helped start.

CBS has dropped a batch of new promo images for tomorrow’s episode of Star Trek: Picard. Titled “The Impossible Box,” this marks the sixth episode of the series’ first season, which means we’re now already in the second half of its slim 10-episode run. So far on the show, then, we’ve seen Sir Patrick Stewart’s Jean-Luc head back out into space on his new ship La Sirena with a new crew to boot. And these photos showcase Picard’s newfound allies.
Picard’s misfit crew consists of first officer Raffi Musiker (Michelle Hurd), pilot Chris Rios (Santiago Cabrera), doctor Agnes Jurati (Alison Pill) and Romulan warrior Elnor (Evan Evagora). These pics also check in on the secondary plot aboard the Borg Cube that’s the base of the Romulan Reclamation Project, where Narek (Harry Treadaway) is attempting to manipulate Soji (Isa Briones), Data’s secret daughter.
