James May has left the car door open for a reunion with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond after they park their Prime Video series The Grand Tour for a final time.
During BBC Radio 4’s Today program, which he was guest editing this morning, he responded to a question about the future of the series by saying: “Well, we’ve filmed the last one for now. I suppose that makes me technically unemployed — I can hear the cheers rolling around the country.
“We’ve got two in the bag, though, so there’s one coming out very soon. I’m not sure what I’m allowed to say here. Then [there is] another one coming out a bit after that.”
In November, Clarkson told The Times newspaper that the trio were “done” after 34 years of car review programs. However, Prime Video is yet to officially cancel The Grand Tour, which is among its highest-rating original series.

Former Top Gear host James May has criticized the “car show-erati” who have called for him and his fellow former co-presenters to be reinstated on the hit motoring show since Andrew Flintoff’s crash.
Speaking to the BBC, May said he has been annoyed by “the people who watch car shows and were saying, ‘Well now they’ve done that wrong you can come back in and rescue [Top Gear].“
May referred to these “partisan” Top Gear fans as the “car show-erati.”
“I was just thinking, ‘The bloke has hurt himself very badly in a life-changing way and you could perhaps not use it as an opportunity to be partisan’,” said May of these fans. “You could perhaps say, ‘Rotten bit of luck, get well soon’.”

Top Gear will not be seen for the “foreseeable future” on TV, the BBC has said.
The show has been off air since host Andrew Flintoff picked up “life-alteringly significant” injuries following a crash, which led to a £9M ($11.2M) payout for the cricketing legend and a health and safety review.
In the past few minutes, the BBC has put out a statement saying it has “decided to rest the UK show for the foreseeable future,” citing “exceptional circumstances.”
The corporation said it remains committed to Flintoff and his co-hosts Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris, “and we’re excited about new projects being developed with each of them,” with “more to say in the near future on this.”
“We know resting the show will be disappointing news for fans, but it is the right thing to do,” said the statement. “All other Top Gear activity remains unaffected by this hiatus including international formats,...

Top Gear is returning to Australia for the first time in more than a decade. Paramount+ has ordered a local version of the British motoring series, which BBC Studios will produce. The BBC has confirmed that Top Gear has been put on hold following last year’s Andrew Flintoff crash, with a decision on the show’s future set to be made “later this year.”
The BBC said it would be “inappropriate” to continue filming on the latest season of one of its most popular shows after the crash in December in which the former England cricketer had to be airlifted to hospital.
“We have sincerely apologised to Freddie and will continue to support him with his recovery,” said a BBC statement about Flintoff. “We understand this will be disappointing for fans, but it is the right thing to do, and we’ll make a judgement about how best to continue later this year.”
The Times has reported that Flintoff is quitting the show he has presented with Paddy McGuinness since 2019.

Freddie Flintoff is reportedly putting his TV career “on hold” following his horrific car crash in December on the set of Top Gear.
Last month, the cricketer-turned-presenter was airlifted to hospital after crashing while filming a car review at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome, home of the Top Gear test track.
Now, new reports have claimed that Flintoff – real name Andrew – is lying low professionally after his family “begged” him to stop work while he recovered from the accident.
The Sun reports that the former England player, who shares four children with wife Rachael, has come to terms with the fact that he “could have been killed” in the accident and needs months off to recover.
“The full extent of his injuries will surprise many people, as the details of what happened have yet to fully emerge,” a source told the publication.

The announcement, in October, that Maya Jama would be the new host of Love Island was met with elation from fans across the country.
“This is Perfect,” gushed one commenter. “They couldn’t have hired someone better!!!!!!” buzzed another. Many joked that Jama is so gorgeous, the ITV2 reality show’s contestants would want to dump their partners for her.
But the new job probably didn’t come as a huge surprise to the woman whose mother has videos of her, at the age of six, declaring she would be on TV one day.
Jama, now 28, has always been determined. In interviews, she’s variously described her teenage self as “fearless” and being “tunnel-vision focused”.
But back then, life was not without its complications.
Jama was born in Bristol, to a Swedish mother and Somali father, and spent many of her weekends up until the age of 10 visiting her father in prison.

Kate Winslet recorded herself resurfacing after holding her breath underwater while filming Avatar: The Way of Water.
In 2020, the Titanic star first made headlines with her record-breaking seven-minute and 15-second breath hold while shooting James Cameron’s long-awaited sequel.
Winslet recently spoke with Games Radar about “smashing” previous records set by Tom Cruise during his six-minute underwater sequence for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation in 2015.
“I have the video of me surfacing saying, ‘Am I dead, have I died?’ And then going, ‘What was [my time]?’” Winslet said.
“Straight away I wanted to know my time. And I couldn’t believe it… The next thing I say is, ‘We need to radio set. I wanted Jim [Cameron] to know right away.”
Director Cameron later joked: “She’s not competitive at all.”
“Well, I didn’t have to hold my breath for over seven minutes,” Winslet explained.
“It’s just that the opportunity to set a record presented itself.

Will Smith has discussed the intensity of the six-month shoot for his latest film, the slavery drama Emancipation.
In the movie, directed by Antoine Fuqua, Smith plays a slave called Peter who escapes captivity and goes to fight with Abraham Lincoln’s army during the American Civil War.
Ben Foster stars as a slave hunter who relentlessly pursues Smith’s character through the swamps of Louisiana.
Speaking in the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Smith explained how, on the first day of the shoot, Foster blanked him – an approach that Smith had a lot of respect for.
“Ben just walked past me and didn’t say nothing,” he said. “I was like, ‘Oh, he must not have seen me.’ And then for six months he didn’t speak to me, he didn’t make eye contact with me, he didn’t say a word. He didn’t acknowledge me for six months.

Strictly Come Dancing cut a snow-themed routine from its recent results show after three boys died in Solihull after falling through ice.
On Sunday (12 December) afternoon, three children aged eight, 10 and 11 slipped through thin ice at a lake in Solihull, dying in the water. A fourth boy, aged six, remains in critical condition in hospital.
You can follow updates on The Independent’s live blog here.
Monday night’s (13 December) Strictly results show was due to begin with a pre-recorded icy routine starring the professional dancers as snowflakes, while judge Craig Revel Horwood played the ice queen.
But despite Tess Daly referring to the dance at the end of the semifinal, the results show went ahead without the performance in the final cut.
While viewers questioned why the pro number, which would usually open the show, hadn’t aired, reports emerged that the BBC had pulled the segment following the tragedy in Solihull.

Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond couldn’t hold back the tears on This Morning after Gok Wan’s 14-year-old cousin revealed she is now “leukaemia free”.
Alyssa, who is the stylist’s cousin’s daughter, was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago.
Appearing on the show on Wednesday (14 December) with her mother and Wan, Alyssa shared the news of her recovery aided by an experimental treatment.
It involved inputting specially engineered cells into her body to attack and overwhelm the cancerous cells, and was the first time it had been used for this type of leukaemia.
O’Leary was keen to express how impressed he was by Alyssa’s maturity and bravery, and quoted her previous statement of wanting to make a difference by talking about her health journey.
In response, Alyssa agreed with her previous comments. “I just wanted to make a difference,” she echoed, adding:...

Bruce Willis has posed in a rare family photo – the first to be shared since he retired from acting.
The Die Hard actor’s family announced earlier this year that he was “stepping away” from the industry after being diagnosed with aphasia, a brain condition “impacting his cognitive abilities”.
In a statement, Willis’s family said: “This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support.
“We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.”
The Hollywood star, who is 67, has now been pictured posing with a puppy alongside his wife Emma Heming and his children.
The photos were shared on Instagram by his ex-wife Demi Moore, with whom he has remained friends since divorcing in 2000.

Lizzo has issued a rebuke to critics who claim she makes music for a specific demographic.
In her HBO documentary Love, Lizzo, the “Juice” singer explains that she often gets called out for genre-hopping, and said some people have accused her of making music that appeals solely to white people.
Now, she has addressed those views while being interviewed on Tuesday (13 December), calling them “very hurtful”.
While appearing on the The Howard Stern Show, Lizzo was asked about the comments she receives.
“[It’s] very hurtful, only because I am a Black woman, and I feel like it really challenges my identity and who I am, and diminishes that, which I think is really hurtful,” she told Stern.
Lizzo affirmed that her music is for “literally everybody and anybody”.
“I don’t try to gatekeep my message from people. So all three of those things for me, I’m just like, ‘You...

James Cameron has reflected on the “problem” with Terminator: Dark Fate after “butting heads” with the director.
The filmmaker behind the first two Terminator films returned to produce the sixth installment in the franchise, which was directed by Tim Miller and released in 2019.
Months after its premiere, Miller vowed to never work with Cameron again, stating: “It has nothing to do with whatever trauma I have from the experience; it’s more that I just don’t want to be in a situation again where I don’t have the control to do what I think is right.”
While Cameron has said in a new interview he is “actually reasonably happy with the film”, the Avatar: The Way of Water director said of Miller: “I liked him before the movie, didn’t like him very much during the movie, and I like him now, and I think he feels the same way.

Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has said that she hopes the show will return for a future Christmas special.
The Welsh actor starred opposite Mathew Horne in Ruth Jones and James Corden’s BBC sitcom, which originally aired from 2007 to 2010 and returned in 2019 for a one-off festive episode.
Appearing on Loose Women on Tuesday (13 December), Page said that, while she’d “love to do another one”, she was unsure of the show’s future.

British sitcoms have long been the source of reboot attempts in America.
The big one that springs to mind is The Office, which became a global hit and, following its addition to Netflix, one of its most-watched titles. A recent success has been Ghosts, which received acclaim upon its debut in 2021.
However, there have been many botched attempts – Spaced, The Inbetweeners and The It Crowd, to name a few.
There have also been several attempts to do a US version of Peep Show in the past, all of which have failed – but FX is going to give it another go, with series creators Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain on board as executive producers.
However, the former will not be scripting the pilot due to his commitments with HBO’s Succession. Emmy-nominated Stefani Robinson, who worked on Atlanta and What We Dp in the Shadows, will write the first episode.

Top Gear host and former cricketer Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff was injured in an accident this week while filming the BBC show on its test track at Dunsfold Park Aerodrome in Surrey, England. Flintoff received medical care at the scene and was airlifted to a hospital for further treatment.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, the BBC reported. More details are expected “in due course,” a spokeperson said while a source told The Sun Flintoff was not driving at high speed.
Flintoff is a former England cricket captain turned entertainer who joined Top Gear in 2018, after Matt LeBlanc announced his exit, and shares hosting duties with Paddy McGuinness and Chris Harris.
This is not the first accident Flintoff has had while making the show, nor is it the series’ first. In 2019, he crashed into a market stall in Nottinghamshire and also had a potentially serious accident during a drag...

Two of Universal Studio Group’s TV divisions have struck a development deal with South Shore, the Cooking with the Stars producer run by former Twofour bosses Melanie Leach and Andrew Mackenzie.

I suppose if Top Gear were a car it would be powered by a frenetic three-cylinder engine. It would be supercharged and turbocharged, still with plenty of go, though misfiring at times. It would have a slightly weary superstructure, suffering from a little metal fatigue and the odd spot of corrosion. Nothing serious, you understand, but in need of attention.
So the first of the latest series (its 33rd) is very much the typical formula, with all its strengths and weaknesses. The lucky trio of presenters – Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness – get to explore the car culture of Thailand, which is just as fascinating as you’d expect. Funnily enough, I reviewed the new Isuzu D-Max pick-up myself recently – a tidy enough drive for a diesel commercial vehicle – but never dreamt it could be raced and rallied with quite the aplomb it clearly is in the beautiful jungles of Indochina.

Bazball one of the worst things I've ever heard, England are just playing exciting cricket: Flintoff
Manchester, Aug 27 (Ians) Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff said that the term ‘bazball’, coined as a tribute to the team’s new approach of playing Test cricket under new head coach Brendon McCullum, is ‘one of the worst things he has ever heard’ while adding that the Ben Stokes-led side are thriving due to playing exciting cricket.
McCullum and Stokes took charge of an England Test side which was in tatters after winning just one of their 17 Tests. The duo have spearheaded the side’s approach of playing Test cricket with a bold, attacking style, which led to England winning 3-0 against New Zealand and chasing a record 378 against India in July.

Chennai, Feb 8 (Ians) As India need 381 more runs, with nine wickets in hand, to win on the fifth and final day of the first Test against England here, it won't be surprising if the Indian camp would dig out the video of India's famous six-wicket win against the same opponents in 2008, made memorable by Virender Sehwag's swashbuckling 68-ball 83 that set up play on the fifth and final day.
Chasing a target of 420, India on Monday lost Rohit Sharma (12) at the Ma Chidambaram Stadium here. Shubman Gill (15) and Cheteshwar Pujara (12) are at the crease.
In 2008, the Kevin Pietersen-led England had set India a target of 387 in the fourth innings. Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir gave the team a rousing start with their 117-run opening-wicket stand. Gambhir (66 off 139 balls) took a backseat and let his senior partner take the opponents by the scruff of their neck.
Having endured a poor 2007, Sehwag looked hungry for runs.

New Delhi, Sep 19 (Ians) It was on this day in 2007 when former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh created history in the shortest format of the game as he hit six consecutive sixes in an over bowled by England fast bowler Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition of the Icc T20 World Cup.
During the group game against England at the Kingsmead in Durban, Yuvraj hit six consecutives 6s against Broad in the 19th over of Indian innings. The flamboyant all-rounder played an unbelievable knock of 14-ball 58 which helped India post 218 runs on the board in their allotted 20 overs.

ITV has commissioned ITV Studios-backed South Shore to make Don’t Rock The Boat, an ambitious competition series in which 12 celebrities row the entire length of Britain from Cornwall to Scotland.
The format will go into production next week and will be hosted by Top Gear presenter Andrew Flintoff and Aj Odudu, who currently fronts ITV’s backstage coverage of The Voice UK.
During a grueling physical mission that’s expected to take up to four weeks to complete, the two boats of stars will stop off at checkpoints in England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland, during which they will undertake spectacular physical challenges that could give them an advantage in the race.
South Shore founders Melanie Leach and Andrew Mackenzie told Deadline that the show is relatively coronavirus-proof, given that it is filmed almost entirely outside, and cast and crew can maintain a tight bubble.

After Deadline first revealed the news last week, the BBC has confirmed that it is moving motoring show Top Gear from BBC Two to BBC One later this year.
Talks about the switch took place in January and BBC director of content Charlotte Moore decided to elevate Top Gear after being impressed with its performance among young and underserved audiences. Season 29 will air on BBC One later this year.
“The time is right to move the world’s best motor show to the nation’s most popular channel and bring it to an even broader audience on BBC One,” said Moore, adding that hosts Andrew Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness had “revitalized” the show.
Ralph Lee, director of content at BBC Studios Production, added: “This is a huge compliment to the entire team behind Top Gear who continually deliver some of the most jaw-dropping TV in the world.”

Exclusive: The BBC has achieved something few could have predicted a couple of years ago: it has revved new life into the faltering global brand that was Top Gear — and in doing so, proved that there is enough room on the road for more than one big car show.
The chemistry between new hosts Andrew Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness has turbocharged the show’s ratings in the UK, meaning last year’s season crossed the finish line with 3.8M viewers, some 1.5M ahead of the previous Matt LeBlanc-fronted season. And the engine was still purring for the premiere of Season 28 last weekend.
This return to growth prompted BBC Two controller Patrick Holland to observe that Top Gear has shed its baggage, including any lingering doubts about its viability without the men who made it a global sensation: Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, James May, and former showrunner Andy Wilman.
