Several members of the “Parks and Recreation” cast reunited this week — not for a reboot or TV special, but on the picket line as they join the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
Ben Schwartz — who played the recurring role of Jean-Ralphio Saperstein on the beloved NBC sitcom — took to Instagram to share a series of photos in which he’s joined by fellow “Parks and Rec” alums, including Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Retta and Jim O’Heir.
Also pictured are “Parks and Recs” recurring guest stars Allan McLeod, Kirk Fox, Colton Dunn and Alison Becker, in addition with series writer Joe Mande, with everyone holding picket signs.

The cast of Parks and Recreation reunited on the picket line as the stars and crew members came together to fight for a better contract with the studios.
Amid the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the cast of the NBC sitcom was seen outside the Amazon Studios in Culver City.
The picketers on the scene included Aubrey Plaza, Adam Scott, Nick Offerman, Retta, Jim O’Heir, Ben Schwartz, Alison Becker, Kirk Fox, Joe Mande, Susan Yeagley, Allan McLeod and Colton Dunn.
Alongside the Parks and Recreation stars, Li’l Sebastian, Pawnee’s famous miniature horse, also made an appearance.
April Ludgate, the character that Plaza played in the comedy, famously had a feud with Rashida Jones’s Ann Perkins. Plaza made reference to that with her picket sign that read, “Ann Perkins works for the AMPTP.”

When Mouse Rat sang "Maybe someday we'll saddle up again," this must have been what they meant: famed "Parks and Recreation" mini horse Li'l Sebastian was spotted on the WGA and SAG-AFTRA picket line yesterday, despite having canonically passed away back in 2011. The sweet horsie's return came in the middle of a near-total cast reunion for the beloved NBC sitcom, and was captured for posterity on Jean-Ralphio actor Ben Schwartz's Instagram.
"Lil Sebastian made a rare public appearance to support the #sagaftrastrike #wgastrike alongside some people who understand how amazing he is," Schwartz wrote, sharing photos of a mini horse wearing with a pretty blond mane wearing a purple "#7 Lil Sebastian" jersey.

Derek Waters loves TV history — so much so that he even keeps a collection of old TV Guide magazines at home. As the co-creator and host of Comedy Central’s Emmy-nominated “Drunk History,” it’s perhaps no surprise that Waters reveres classic TV — particularly from his childhood era of the 1980s.
But here’s where he draws the line at nostalgia: Reboots and remakes.
“I hope some day, I’m alive to see some sort of law passed where something, be it ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ once a show or movie [has been given] some sort of accolade, it can be shut,” Waters told Variety‘s “My Favorite Episode” podcast. “You’re not allowed to touch this. Leave it alone.”
Waters’ suggestion: Just re-release a DVD of the original instead. “Don’t change it,” he added. “I’m trying to think of one thing where I’m so glad they rebooted that, and...

The creator of Fxx series “You’re the Worst” is trying to get his actors in place. “Allan, take a step back toward the polar bear,” Stephen Falk shouts over a din of dancing bodies. “No, toward the polar bear!”
For the series finale, everyone — from the principal cast of Chris Geere, Aya Cash, Kether Donohue, and Desmin Borges, to a slew of recurring favorites like Janet Varney, Todd Robert Anderson, Brandon Mychal Smith, and the bear-adjacent Allan McLeod — is gathered to shoot a wedding reception as they swirl around the ballroom of a giant Silver Lake mansion decorated with ornate fixtures and lots and lots of taxidermy.
It’s mid-September 2018, and it’s here, at the 22,000-square foot historical landmark of the Paramour Estate, that “You’re the Worst” will end its five-season run. The location’s intriguing history aside, its ties to the series run deep: It’s...

When You’re the Worst began in the summer of 2014 with smug British writer Jimmy Shive-Overly and destructive publicist Gretchen Cutler hooking up at his ex-girlfriend’s wedding, neither the relationship nor the show seemed built for the long haul. Jimmy and Gretchen were — as both humans and TV protagonists — unfathomably shallow, mean and emotionally stunted. Neither of them was looking for much more than a good time. And in those early days,You’re the Worst didn’t quite have a handle on these two and their dysfunctional romance.

For four seasons, Stephen Falk set out to “subvert but still service” the romantic comedy genre with his FX half-hour series “You’re the Worst.” Therefore, in setting out to craft the fifth and final season, in which the central couple Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) are planning their wedding, Falk had some clear tentpoles for the story in mind, but also wanted to make sure the “event” element didn’t completely take over and change the tone of the show.
“We wanted to keep the momentum of the wedding planning going so as to make it always the gravitational force that was propelling the season,” Falk tells Variety. But, he adds, “when you’ve had a show that has really delved into clinical depression and Ptsd and the way we treat our veterans in this country, then planning a wedding seems a little lightweight.”

It’s an accident, and as we quickly learn, the dead guy, Dick (Allan McLeod), was involved with both of the girls who now stand over his profusely bleeding body.
Tessa (Gaby Dunn) and Alli (Emma Myles) had a friendship that was previously sundered because of Dick’s efforts to seduce them both. Successfully… but both hookups ended badly, bad feelings.

“You’re the Worst” Season 4 began with a problem.
“There’s a sort of a writers room buzzword [called] ‘schmuck bait,'” series creator Stephen Falk told IndieWire. “It’s bait for schmucks. It’s like, ‘Oh, the hero’s son is in peril!’ But, well, they’re not actually in peril because, you know, they’re a major character. They’ll come back.”
The bait to start Season 4 — and thus the problem facing it — is that Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) are broken up. Most real-life couples couldn’t come back from such a tragic split, but given that “You’re the Worst” is a romantic-comedy focusing on Jimmy and Gretchen’s relationship, the expectation persists: They’ll get back together, right?

[Warning: The below article contains spoilers for “You’re the Worst” Season 3, through the finale.]
“There is no family.”
Those were the only words I heard during Jimmy’s loquacious diatribe about being “post-family” (like “Thoreau or the Unabomber”) that kicked off the Season 3 finale of “You’re the Worst.” As is fitting for a series so beautifully written (Episode 13, “No Longer Just Us,” by Stephen Falk, Franklin Hardy and Shane Kosakowski), the beginning foreshadowed the ending without giving it away. In fact, the final moments turned the opening scene on its head.
So when Gretchen started gushing with joy post-proposal about how they’re “a family now,” “no longer just ‘us,'” it was quite clear the happy ending in Jimmy’s new novel wouldn’t come true for the romantic pair at the center of our story.
Instead, “You’re the Worst’s” bold third season wrapped on a note similar to this:

True “dramedies” feel like a dying breed. Some shows are great miniature 30-minute dramas disguised as comedies (as Julie Klausner would say), like Hulu’s cute and compassionate show Casual. Others lean more on the straight-up humor side of things without diving too deep into dramatic weeds, a.k.a. anytime the bunker is brought up on Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
You’re the Worst is the much-needed middle ground. Creator Stephen Falk is so unafraid to stock his show with characters that live up to its title, and then some, that it makes it far easier to stomach any of the dark turns that are frequently taken. After all, with people this mean-spirited and self-centered, it’d be unbelievable if the writing only had bawdy humor on its mind. Thankfully, it doesn’t, and season 3 not only carries last year’s unsettling reveal...

Season 3 is right around the corner, and fans are wondering how Jimmy’s fateful words (“I love you”) from the end of Season 2 will affect the commitment-phobic couple going forward.
“They would never do anything by the book,” Chris Geere (who plays Jimmy) added. “They take the hard route the whole time, and I think that’s why people can relate to them. It’s never as easy as romantic comedies have brain-washed us into believing they are.”

2016 has been a banner year for the New York Television Festival. The Duplass Brothers-produced “Animals” pilot, which won Best Comedy at the festival in 2013, landed a two-season deal over at HBO. Multi-year alums of the festival Tory Stanton and Scott McCabe wrote a pilot called “No Tomorrow” that will score a premiere on The CW this fall. And that’s just the start.
Deadlines have passed for this year’s annual Independent Pilot Competition (Ipc) and the festival’s inaugural Nytvf Scripts competition. The statistics show interest in independent television — at least as far as it crosses into the festival — is hotter than ever.

An interviewer really wants to get some clickbait out of his interviews with the cast of "The Overnight," but his respondents are having none of it. Read More: Watch: Taylor Schilling and Adam Scott are Sexually Frustrated in Nsfw 'The Overnight' Trailer In a new Funny Or Die short, Allan McLeod ("Parks and Recreation") plays a hapless journalist whose main goal is to insult and provoke the cast of "The Overnight" as much as possible. After explaining to his disgruntled guests the need to provide content that will generate "clicks," he takes matters into his own hands. Most amusingly, he really pisses off Adam Scott. Others featured in the "interview" (as well as in "The Overnight") include Taylor Schilling and Jason Schwartzman, and you can watch it in its entirety above. Reviewing a new TV show usually comes out to about 50 percent analysis of what's there, 50 percent psychic projection of what the show might become past the episode(s) you've seen. With comedy, the balance tilts heavily towards the psychic end of things, because so few comedies start out strongly, and you have to make an informed guess as to what mediocre pilot will turn out to be great like "Parks and Recreation," and what will settle for being crass like "2 Broke Girls." Even having more episodes beyond the pilot isn't always a help. Back in January, for instance, Comedy Central sent out the first two "Broad City"s to critics. They were clever and seemed to have a distinctive voice, but it was a busy time of year, and I moved on to other things. Then my friends kept raving about it, I watched the rest of the season over the summer,...

Drunk History Christmas Short Film. The Drunk History Christmas (2011) short film stars Ryan Gosling, Jim Carrey, and Eva Mendes. Drunk History Christmas plot’s synopsis: “On December 15th Allan McLeod drank half a bottle of Whiskey… and then recited a classic Christmas Poem ‘The Night Before Christmas’”.
This short film is hilarious, far funnier than I thought it would initially be. The drunk reading of the lines and the actors mimicking it is genius. I didn’t even know one of the actors was Jim Carrey until it was shown.
Watch the Drunk History Christmas short film below and leave your thoughts on it in the comments section. For more short films, visit our Short Film Page.

Real-life couple Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes spend a snowy Christmas night together in a new Funny or Die video which is created to welcome the festive season. They act out the words from a poem called "Twas the Night Before Christmas" blurted out by a drunken Allan McLeod.
In the middle of the night, the couple, who have two daughters in the video, are visited by Santa Claus (Jim Carrey). Instead of delivering Christmas gifts in the sleigh pulled by reindeer, the comedian gets some dogs with him because Allan had difficulty in recalling what animals should be with him.
The poem itself was supposed to be a children story about a man who witnesses Santa coming to his home and filling his children's stockings with presents. It, however, contains some unexpected F-words which are dropped every once in a while by Allan due to his drunken state.

Can Ryan Gosling do no wrong? Already named the coolest person of 2011, Gosling ups his awesome level in the latest video from Funny Or Die for their “Drunk History” series. This installment of the series features Allan McLeod, who drank half a bottle of whiskey, and then attempts to recite the holiday classic, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The retelling of the tale turns out to be a tremendous challenge for McLeod, who stumbles with the poem, at one point saying, "The children were hung.” Photos: Ryan Gosling's Career in Pictures But it’s no matter to Gosling, who

For those who didn't get enough of Ryan Gosling this year with fantastic turns in The Ides of March, Crazy Stupid Love and Drive, a bit of an early Christmas present has manifested itself in the form of Funny or Die's holiday themed installment of their hilarious on-going series Drunk History. Comedian Allan McLeod painstakingly tries to recite The Night Before Christmas after having half a bottle of whiskey (a fine Christmas dinner for anyone), but thankfully, Gosling, Jim Carrey and Eva Mendes chip in to help tell this complicated story of Christmas magic. Who can remember all of Santa's reindeer anyway? Watch! Here's Drunk History's fantastic re-telling of The Night Before Christmas from Funny or Die: This might be the funniest thing Jim Carrey has done in a long time, and it's always great to see an actor of Gosling's caliber take the time to do something nonsensical...

Hey Girl. The last time you and I saw a Drunk History video was on December 14. That’s when Drunk History creator Derek Waters uploaded a new video to Funny or Die announcing there would be a very special Drunk History Christmas episode uploaded to the internet soon. But that doesn’t really count. The last time you and I saw a full installment of Drunk History was way back in June 2010. Jen Kirman got wasted and told the story of how the friendship of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass overcame the slavery movement and the rampant racism that existed in their day. Will Ferrell, Don Cheadle, and Zooey Deschanel acted out the scene. It was great. It’s been a long time for us to wait, but Waters uploaded that very special Drunk History Christmas episode today. It features Allan McLeod reciting A Visit from St. Nicholas (aka Twas the Night Before Christmas,...

Funny Or Die just released their “Drunk Christmas” year-end holiday special, featuring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, and Jim Carrey acting out the slurred ramblings of Allan McLeod attempting to recite “Twas The Night Before Christmas”. Like the FoD “Drunk History” videos, it’s funny, frustrating, sympathetic, and ultimately serves as a good pre-warning of why to not get too drunk at your work holiday party / actual Christmas / New Year’s Eve / New Year’s Eve the movie screening / Mlk Day / Ever. Also, Ryan Gosling is in it. Happy watchings! (Language NSFChristmas):...
