The writers behind Late Night with Seth Meyers are taking their comedy to Washington D.C. this summer — Just don’t tell Seth.
“Don’t Tell Seth! An Evening with the Seth Meyers Writers” will come to the Kennedy Center on June 14-15, as part of its Comedy at the Kennedy Center programming.
Hosted by writers John Lutz and Peter Grosz, the variety show will feature standup comedy, sketches, audience interaction, and improv from Late Night scribes Matt Goldich, Jenny Hagel, Jeff Wright, Allison Hord, Ben Warheit, and Ian Morgan.
“Unshackled from the confines of network censors and what Seth thinks is ‘appropriate’ for his show,” the event description teases, “they are finally free to let loose!”
Seth’s writers are familiar faces on Late Night, often appearing on the program in sketches and desk segments like “Jokes Seth Can’t Tell.” But this isn’t the first time they...

If ever a play had good reason to front-load itself with exposition, Good Night, Oscar is it. Once among America’s premiere wits and raconteurs, Oscar Levant has gone the way of many another once-famous wits and raconteurs. Which is to say, he needs lots of exposition.
Good Night, Oscar, the new bio-play by Doug Wright (I Am My Own Wife) starring Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) as Levant, goes a long way in introducing this long-ago talk-show staple to modern audiences. Whether it justifies the effort is considerably less certain.
A talented pianist and occasional second-banana movie actor, Levant is better known today for his frequent talk- and game-show appearances of the 1950s and ’60s, his aptitude for the improvised zinger and no-holds-barred confessional humor making him a sought-after, if controversial, Golden Age presence. Others would follow in his wake – the Gore Vidals and Truman Capotes and Phyllis Newmans, but Levant was first.

Searchlight Pictures gave their darkly comedic psychological thriller The Menu a theatrical release last month (you can read our review Here and watch our interview with stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult Here), and it has been more successful than I would have expected it to be. Scripted by Will Tracy (Last Week with John Oliver) and Seth Reiss (Late Night with Seth Meyers), The Menu is set

Sean Hayes will return to Broadway in a new play about the life of actor and pianist Oscar Levant.
In Good Night, Oscar, written by Doug Wright, Hayes plays Levant, who is booked on Jack Paar’s The Tonight Show in a 90-minute session that delights audience members, but also comes at a cost for the star.
Directed by Lisa Peterson, Good Night, Oscar will play a 20-week engagement at the Belasco Theatre starting April 7, 2023. Opening night is set for April 24. The play comes to Broadway after a premiere at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre.
“Though he’s somewhat forgotten by today’s audiences, Oscar Levant was a startling phenomenon in his own time; following a stellar concert and movie career, he became a celebrated pundit, holding forth on the chat shows of the 1950’s. A brilliant, often searing raconteur, he was the first...

Sean Hayes will return to Broadway this spring starring in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Doug Wright’s new play Good Night, Oscar, in which Hayes will play Hollywood Golden Age actor, pianist and wit Oscar Levant.
Directed by Lisa Peterson, Good Night, Oscar will begin performances at the Belasco Theatre,on April 7, 2023, and an official opening set for April 24. The 20-week limited engagement will end on August 27, 2023.
The official synopsis: It’s 1958 and Jack Paar is hosting The Tonight Show. He’s booked his favorite guest, a pundit as hilarious as he is unpredictable: Oscar Levant, who once famously proclaimed, “There’s a fine line between genius and insanity, and I have erased that line.” In 90 short minutes, Oscar will have audiences howling, censors scrambling, and – when it’s all over – America will be just a little less innocent than she was before.

Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult pay the price for the culinary experience of a lifetime in their new thriller, "The Menu." The film, produced by Searchlight Pictures, stars Hoult and Taylor-Joy as Tyler and Margot, a young couple who visit a remote island for the opportunity to eat at Hawthorne, an exclusive restaurant headed by celebrity Chef Slowik (Ralph Fiennes).
What begins as a night of culinary exploration planned by one of the most renowned chefs in the world slowly dissolves into a nightmarish series of mind games intended to give the diners a fully immersive dining experience. "The game is trying to guess what the overarching theme of the entire meal is going to be," Tyler says in the trailer released on Aug. 10. "You won't know till the end." Seth Meyers has made no secret of the fact that, during the pandemic, he and the “Late Night with Seth Meyers” team stumbled upon the purest form of the show. But while Meyers eventually returned to the studio and audiences came back last fall, the host still managed to carve out a piece of the series that continued the free-for-all spirit of his at-home shows: “Corrections.”
It began as an online-only bit. Sans-audience, Meyers recorded himself in the studio reading YouTube comments that were correcting errors he had made throughout that week’s show — and subsequently blasting the person who left the comment. But quickly, “Corrections” (which releases its 50th edition on Friday) morphed into something of an inside joke between him and his most loyal viewers.
“It’s like paying homage to that time we were gone,” Meyers told TheWrap during a recent interview. “And it’s also not just for us.

Exclusive: IMDb announced its first-ever scripted series You’re Not a Monster featuring the voices of Kelsey Grammer, Eric Stonestreet, Aparna Nancherla, Ellie Kemper, Patton Oswalt and others. The animated series is set to premiere this fall, but IMDb will give a sneak peek of the new show featuring iconic movie monsters at Comic-Con later this month.
You’re Not a Monster shows that even movie monsters have emotional issues — because the only thing worse than being undead is being unloved. In the series, Grammer will take a seat in the therapist chair for the first time since his Frasier days as former psychiatrist-turned-vampire who mentors his great-great grandson Max (Stonestreet), a therapist who has inherited his practice.
Each episode will be four to five minutes and will feature Max treating familiar faces in the movie monster world including Frankenstein, The Invisible Man and Medusa as they seek desperately needed therapeutic help.

Kathy Griffin made her U.S. TV comeback performing Kellyanne Conway’s Greatest Hits in The President Show’s Make America Great-a-Thon special.
The President Show’s Donald Trump, aka series creator/Ep Anthony Atamunuik, introduced her as “the cockroach of my administration” and “the lone survivor of the Bowling Green Massacre” – a nod to that time she talked on camera to media about that tragic non-existent mass shooting.
Comedy Central had announced a week ago the comic would appear as trusted presidential counselor Conway on the special, in which Trump hosts a telethon to raise money for all the projects he can’t get Congress to fund – like The Wall.
Introducing her to telethon viewers, Atamunuik/Trump described Griffin’s Conway as “an assault on the senses.” She was wearing that spotlight-stealing Trump Revolutionary Wear coat from Gucci that she’d worn to his inauguration.

A group of people who look a lot like the people who are supposed to run the United States have begun to convene again for Comedy Central.
One of them is Griffin Dunne, the actor known for his role in the 1985 Martin Scorsese dark comedy “After Hours,” and, more recently, 2013’s “Dallas Buyers Club” and Showtime’s comedy “House of Lies.” Dunne is set to take up the role of Special Counsel Robert Mueller in the next iteration of Comedy Central’s “The President Show.” The surreal and satirical comedy has Anthony Atamanuik depicting President Donald Trump as a mercurial and self-indulgent but larger-than-life personality who holds forth from the Oval Office with a rogue talk show. After running a first season of the show, the Viacom-owned cable network will air an hour-long special, “Make America Great-a-Thon: A President Show Special,” on Tuesday, April 3 at 11:00 p.m. eastern.

"Josh is a pretty disturbed individual..." Great Point Media has debuted a trailer for an awkward indie film titled Aardvark, from writer/director Brian Shoaf. This premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year and like most Tribeca films, no one will ever see it. Jenny Slate stars as a therapist, Emily, who falls for the brother of a patient who may or may not be suffering from schizophrenia. Zachary Quinto co-stars as her patient, Josh, and his brother is played by the alluring Jon Hamm, which is such on-the-nose casting it actually seems weird. The full cast includes Sheila Vand, Tonya Pinkins, Dale Soules, Peter Grosz, and Marin Ireland. This really does not look very good, but you can check it out if you're curious anyway. “Lean on Pete” is adapted from the novel of the same name by Willy Vlautin. Charlie Plummer stars as 15-year-old Charley Thompson, who moves to Portland, Oregon with his father and befriends the workers at a local racetrack for horses. Charley gets a job looking after an aging Quarter Horse named Lean On Pete and bonds with its owner (Steve Buscemi) and jockey (Chloë Sevigny). Dave McCary’s directorial debut Brigsby Bear is making its way to in-home release. The film has had been critically acclaimed by our very own Pete Towe, calling it a likely contender for “film of the year.” You can read his raving review here. The film stars Kyle Mooney (SNL) as James who has grown up with the kids’ show Brigsby Bear and the program has grown with him as well. Upon learning the series has been cancelled, he adopts the old adage that the show must go on. By becoming Brigsby Bear’s new creator, James finally builds meaningful connections his life has lacked. I interviewed Sean Porter for the first time early last year about his work on Jeremy Saulnier's slasher/thriller Green Room. The second time around was a bit brighter, a beach-side domestic dramedy: Mike Mill’s coming of age epic 20th Century Women. And here we are at interview three with his most expensive film, the Sony funded studio comedy Rough Night starring Scarlett Johansson, Kate Mckinnon, Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell, Ilana Glazer and which was directed by Broad City’s Lucia Aniello & cowritten by Paul W. Downs. In the gamut of the three, I’ve no clue where to place it.
On a technical, on-set structure spectrum I’ve got a better idea. Rough Night moved the fastest. Sean opens up about his first experience on a big budget studio film, how he managed to light at a breakneck multi-camera TV-style pace with bare minimum prep, and the perks of industry veteran reinforcements.

When Jordan Klepper signed on for a day embedded with a Georgia militia group, he was expecting to find answers to solving the problem of gun violence in America. What he got — at least at first — was a quick workout.
“It’s a fascinating experience to be a fly on the wall of a day of militia training. Something that we didn’t realize is that you forget how long a day it is. We arrived and did calisthenics for the first 30 minutes and it was just guys getting their heart rate going,” Klepper said in an interview with IndieWire.
It’s just one example of how Klepper and a team of writers uncovered some unexpected results over the six months that spent researching America’s complicated relationship to firearms. The result is “Jordan Klepper Solves Guns,” a one-hour special premiering Sunday night on Comedy Central.

Everyone knew “The President Show” was going to have to adapt to a rapidly evolving political landscape. For a show that, to some, seemed like a one-joke premise, each new week was going to bring with it a chance to cover yet another angle of the ongoing White House upheaval.
Four episodes in, Comedy Central has given the show a seven-episode renewal, taking the Anthony-Atamanuik-as-Donald-Trump-led talk show through to the end of the summer. And it couldn’t have come at a better time: “The President Show” just aired its best episode yet. (And, in regard to that “one-joke” argument, there are few other shows on TV right now that could get away with hiding a video of a decomposing fox in plain sight during its opening credits.)

Welcome to PeekTV, your daily look at the best that television has to offer. In each installment, we make three picks for the best shows to watch and…toss in a little extra.
Thursday, May 18 What Happened Last Night?!
(What does this have to do with the history of transportation and warfare? Check out last night’s TV picks.)
“Scandal”
“Tick Tock”/”Transfer of Power,” ABC, 10:00 p.m.
Synopsis: As the clock ticks down to the inauguration of the first female President of the United States, Olivia takes a big risk to ensure Mellie’s safety; In the final days of his presidency, Fitz uses his power to make some unexpected changes.
Why You Should Watch: It’s been a big few weeks for “Scandal,” even outside of what’s been airing. “Dear White People” gave it a spinoff of sorts with “Defamation,” which took on a life of its own.

What Is Going On Here?
(To find out, see what you missed last night!)
“Riverdale,” 9 p.m., The CW
Episode Title: “Chapter Thirteen: The Sweet Hereafter”
Network Synopsis: Archie and Veronica continue to grow closer. Betty is tired of her family acting as if nothing has happened and confronts her mother. Jughead finds himself in an unexpected situation, leaving Archie and the gang scrambling. Hermione makes Fred an offer that seems too good to be true. Meanwhile, the truth about Blossoms’ family business is revealed leaving Cheryl to take matters into her own hands.
Why You Should Watch: The big mystery of the season — who killed Jason Blossom — was resolved in last week’s episode, so tonight “Riverdale” sets up what’s to come in Season 2. Given how the series began, we can probably expect some casualties.

[Editor’s Note: The following review of “Doctor Who” Season 10, Episode 3, “Thin Ice,” contains spoilers.]
The Rundown
While the Doctor and Bill had some excitement in Regency England with some monsters during a Frost Fair (a celebration the day before a thaw is expected), that was just the framework for the richer character content that the episode delivered. Despite traveling through time and space with the Doctor, Bill only now really saw into the heart, er, hearts, of the alien Time Lord who looks human.

Again, “Doctor Who” created a one-off, disposable monster that we highly doubt will resurface on the show. The episode began with a press conference, during which President Trump addressed his first 100 days in office.

President Trump has been the target of the late-night comics for long enough, so it’s only fair that he should get a late-night program of his own.
On Monday, Comedy Central said that it had picked up a new weekly late-night series, called “The President Show,” created by and starring Anthony Atamanuik, a noted Trump impersonator, who will play the president as he hosts his desk segments, comedy bits and guest interviews from the Oval Office. Peter Grosz (“Veep,” “The Colbert Report”) will also appear on the program as Mr. Trump’s sidekick, Vice President Mike Pence.
“The President Show” (which Comedy Central teased last week in an on-air stunt that seemed to simulate a Russian hack of its broadcast) will debut on April 27 and will run on Thursdays at 11:30 p.

Now that Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) and his girlfriend, Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), have reached the meet-the-parents milestone of dating, she invites him for a weekend getaway upstate with Missy (Catherine Keener, Captain Phillips) and Dean (Bradley Whitford, The Cabin in the Woods).
At first, Chris reads the family’s overly accommodating behavior as nervous attempts to deal with their daughter’s interracial relationship, but as the weekend progresses, a series of increasingly disturbing discoveries lead him to a truth that he could have never imagined.
Equal parts gripping thriller and provocative commentary, Get Out is written and directed by Peele...

Your madly in love with your girlfriend, You dote on her every whim, so you agree to accompany her to her parents for the weekend to meet the people who gave this wonderful specimen life, it’s all hunky dory, we live in the 21st century right, what could possibly go wrong for this interracial young couple?
Related: Keanu movie review
Looking at the trailer quite a bit could go wrong and especially with Get Out having been produced by Blumhouse’s Jason Blum, as well as Sean McKittrick (Donnie Darko, Bad Words) a visit to the more sinister, creepy and downright frightening town upstate could be one romantic weekend away with girlfriend Rose (Allison Williams, Girls), Chris (Daniel Kaluuya, Sicario) would wholeheartedly regret. A predominately white town, run by a white cult with a strange control of the African-American’s of the town… Could Chris be next on their list?...

In the McU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), The Infinity Stones (aka Infinity Gems or Soul Gems) are items of absolute power created by Cosmic Entities before the universe exploded into existence. But what are they, and where are they now?
To help answer this question, we've put together this primer to help you sort through the dozen-plus films that have hit so far, and even go on to speculate in which film we'll be seeing the mysterious Soul Stone, which has yet to make its official McU appearance.

Yes, as stated above, we already know they're cosmic items created by certain entities, but the stones are much more than that. They are the ultimate plot device, and have basically powered all of the McU movies in some way or another. Each stone utilizes a containment device, as even touching a stone could destroy a mortal,...
