It's been a few months since Disney+ released the first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, a retelling of Peter Parker's (Hudson Thames) origin story set in an alternate universe from the MCU. It was well-liked by fans and critics alike, and a second season has already greenlit. With that in mind, it was only a matter of time before Funko released a Pop! Vinyl collection featuring characters from this Marvel TV series.

Funko's latest Spider-Man set will include seven figures. In addition to the different Spidey suits featured in the show, like his Oscorp suit, proto suit, and final suit, other characters will receive the Pop! Vinyl treatments, including Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) and a 6-inch Symbiote (Alien Monster). Sadly, other characters like Norman Osborn (Colman Domingo) or any of Peter Parker's friends won't be featured in this set. Phineas and Ferb voice actor Vincent Martella has revealed one of his dream characters that he would love to play in the future. Martella has been acting for more than 20 years now, getting his start in projects such as Cracking Up and Stacked before also playing Greg Wuliger in Everybody Hates Chris. Martella has been voicing Phineas on the hit TV series for nearly 20 years now after first entering the booth in 2007, starring alongside other show veterans such as Dan Povenmire and Ashley Tisdale. Collider’s Aidan Kelley recently caught up with Martella to discuss the upcoming Phineas and Ferb reboot, and he asked if there was any character he would love to play in the future. The actor has now broken his silence on the controversy, clarifying how what he'd intended to convey was muddled by a "poor choice of words."

Thames addressed the situation in a new interview with Juju Green (per ScreenRant). The actor said he was referring to comments that he'd been seeing on social media with people voicing concern about Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man adding diversity to the show in a way that felt "inauthentic or disingenuous." He clarified that diversity is a part of the animated series, but that it never "felt forced," which was the point he was intending to make.

During an interview with Collider's Mike Thomas before the premiere of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker voice actor Hudson Thames shared his version of praise for the series, which was that he was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't “annoying and woke". These fully contextualized comments came around the same time that some of Thames’ co-stars—namely two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo—were facing racist backlash for their casting as characters such as Norman Osborn. Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premiered in January to great reviews, but its debut came with some controversy. Hudson Thames, the voice actor reprising the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the animated series What If...?, was giving a seemingly innocent interview to promote the show's debut when some of his comments soon went viral. In the interview, Thames spoke about his initial concerns that the show would be "woke," and it was a sentiment that was met with near-universal criticism. Now, with some time away from those controversial comments, the actor is trying to set the record straight.

During an Instagram interview with Juju Green, Thames admitted that he thought the media "cherry-picked and used essentially with no context" his comments "to kind of stir up some drama." From there, he attempted to retract his initial "woke" comment about the series.

Hudson Thames, who voices Peter Parker in the animated Your Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man series, has addressed the backlash he received for comments he made during an interview around the time of the show's Disney+ premiere.

Here's what Thames said to Collider back in January when asked how he felt about the series introducing a Black take on Norman Osborn and spotlighting diverse characters such as Lonnie Lincoln, Nico Minoru, and Pearl Pangan.

"I thought it was awesome. I mean, my biggest fear was that it was gonna be annoying and woke, and it wasn't, and I was like, 'Yes, this is great, it's so well written,' like it feels real. I'm the oldest of five boys, so I feel like I kind of know what's happening in their lives and in high school, and it felt like it was doing that justice."

It's worth noting that Thames didn't actually call the show woke.

Complete with a few other major heroes heroes hidden through the show, this series gave viewers a new look at Spidey's origins in a universe already filled with other McU-adjacent heroes. 

While the show was led by Hudson Thames, who previously voiced Peter Parker in What If...?, the actor found himself caught in some wild controversy during the show's run on Disney+.

The title "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" suggests a small-time superhero, but the series' 10-episode debut season pulled in faces from all across the Marvel Universe. Among the main cast, the show reinvented Nico Minoru (Grace Song) of "The Runaways" as the goth best friend of Peter Parker (Hudson Thames).

I grew up on the 1990s "Spider-Man" cartoon, which often featured Mighty Marvel Team-Ups between Spidey and other superheroes: X-Men, Captain America, etc. "Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" is doing the same. Doctor Strange (Robin Atkin Downes) shows up in the premiere and the finale. Daredevil (Charlie Cox) shows up in episode 6 to spar with Spider-Man, and his apprentice Finesse (Anjali Kunapaneni) is posing as one of Peter's fellow Oscorp interns.

Before Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man premiered on Disney+, there were rumblings that Vincent D'Onofrio would lend his voice to an animated version of the Kingpin of Crime, Wilson Fisk.

It made sense with Charlie Cox's Daredevil set to appear but the series has been and gone and there was no sign of the villain currently serving as New York Mayor in Daredevil: Born Again. So, was he cut or is he being saved for a future season? 

During a recent Q&a, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell discussed adding the Man Without Fear to the show and addressed the Kingpin rumours head-on. 

"[Charlie Cox] has been awesome to work with," he started. "I did not know that we would get the opportunity to have him in the show. Very early on, I was like, 'Can we use Daredevil?' And they were like, 'Yes.' I was like, 'Can I use Charlie?...

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man head writer Jeff Trammell touched upon rumors of Kingpin being in the series. This comes after Trammell explained putting Peter Parker and Lonnie Lincoln on parallel paths.

Trammell brought this subject up during a panel at Scad TV Fest (via Collider), professing, "I can comment on one of those, because one of those is true. The other is a rumor that got started that is not true. Charlie Cox is in the show as Daredevil. It's incredible, and I'm excited for you guys to see him. He's been awesome to work with."

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man will live up to its genial title. Marvel Television head Brad Winderbaum confirmed plans to release yearly seasons of the well-received wall-crawler animated series, starting with a sophomore installment.

Ahead of the Daredevil: Born Again premiere event, Winderbaum commented, per Collider:

"We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it," Winderbaum told Collider ahead of Daredevil: Born Again premiere. "What usually happens, as you know, in animation, is that there's a bigger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 than in subsequent seasons, and that'll be similar in Friendly. We will have to wait a little bit more than a year for Season 2, but then after that, it should come out on an annual cadence, hopefully."

Marvel Studios has come to terms with the fact its current approach to television isn't working and now plans to release multi-season shows yearly. So, hopefully no more one-off series meant to tee up movies or waits of upwards of 18 months - 2 years before a new season drops.

That plan seemingly extends to animation as Brad Winderbaum, Head of Streaming, Television and Animation at Marvel Studios, has shared a big update on Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's future.

Talking to Collider, he revealed that "Season 2 [will be released] in '26, I think," before explaining, "We will have a Spider-Man season every year if I have anything to say about it. What usually happens, as you know, in animation, is that there's a bigger gap between Season 1 and Season 2 than in subsequent seasons, and that'll be similar in Friendly."

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man went from being a series no one seemed particularly excited about to a show it seems everyone is now raving about.

During a recent interview with The Breakroom, showrunner Jeff Trammell looked back at season 1 and revealed some of the characters he wasn't able to use. Among them was the relatively obscure Spider-Man villain, Big Wheel.

To bring you up to speed, the comic book version of the character was Jackson Weele, a New York businessman who had embezzled from his company. Fearing that he might be caught, he hired Rocket Racer to steal the incriminating evidence, only for the criminal to blackmail him.

In response, Weele turned to the Tinkerer to create a large metal single-wheeled vehicle - outfitted with all manner of weapons - and became the supervillain known as Big Wheel.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man wrapped up earlier this week but we already have a first look at season 2. In an unexpected move, the show will introduce Gwen Stacy...and Spider-Gwen!

You may recall us pointing out that the spider that bit Peter Parker hitched a ride on an unknown Midtown High student's bag after sinking its fangs into the teenager. Based on what we see here, we'd bet on that being Gwen.

In the finale, Peter severed ties with Norman Osborn and Oscorp but with Spider-Gwen wielding a device that looks a little like a pumpkin bomb at first glance, could it be that she's the company's new superhero? It's also possible Norman had more spiders than just the one we saw escape into the past.

This will be the first time we've seen Spider-Man and Spider-Gwen portrayed as being the same age and from the same universe since the short-lived 2017 Spider-Man.

Spider-Man is in safe hands with Marvel Studios but, in an effort to differentiate this web-slinger from those played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, some much-loved aspects of the character haven't really found their way into the MCU.

We've seen Tom Holland's Peter Parker protect Queens, battle Mysterio in London, and team up with his Variants at the Statue of Liberty. However, it wasn't until Spider-Man: No Way Home that fans got a "final swing" through Manhattan...and even that was shorter than most would like.

Back during episode 8 of the series, Norman gave away Otto Octavious' whereabouts to General Thaddeus Ross. A Swat team, along with Iron Man himself, were quick to arrive at the location and apprehend the mad scientist before handing him over to the police.

Josh Keaton first lent his voice to Peter Parker in The Spectacular Spider-Man animated series and he's since reprised the role in several video games (his animated Spidey also made a surprise appearance in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse).

We're hours away from Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man's two-episode finale and Marvel Animation has just dropped a clip from the penultimate chapter, "Hero or Menace," featuring Spidey's classic red and blue costume.

After webbing up some of Big Donovan's gang, the wall-crawler comes face to face with Scorpion. The villain is now wearing a comic-accurate helmet to go with his suit, and this rematch promises to be epic after the beating Mac Gargan previously delivered to Spider-Man.

The two-episode Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man finale hits Disney+ on Wednesday morning and we now have a spectacular new poster for the series.

In the closing moments of the eighth episode - you can read our recap here - Peter Parker was presented with a new suit by Harry Osborn. In the reflection of the teenager's glasses, we see the classic red and blue costume and that iconic look is highlighted on this poster.

We'll get to see the hero wear this for a rematch with the Scorpion, though you can expect some big surprises beyond Mac Gargan as this first season reaches its conclusion. Oh, and those questions you have about Spidey's origin? Brace yourselves.

"Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" episode 7, "Scorpion Rising," sees Peter Parker (Hudson Thames) facing his greatest challenge yet -- and nearly losing his life to it. That challenge's name is Mac Gargan (Jonathan Medina), leader of a criminal gang called the Scorpions. The season had been building up a gang war between the Scorpions and their rivals, the 1 & 10th Street gang, represented by Peter's friend (and future enemy) Lonnie Lincoln (Eugene Byrd).

Episode 6, "Duel with the Devil," ended with the Scorpions discovering their rivals' hideout, and Mac getting fitted with green scorpion themed armor, complete with a stinger tail, by Otto Octavius (Hugh Dancy). The Scorpion springs his trap in the following episode. Spider-Man intervenes, but nothing he throws at Gargan keeps him down. Spider-Man has been one of the biggest superhero names for decades, and his newest Disney+ series shows his heroic start at the beginning of high school. The animated series has him facing some of his most iconic villains from the comic books and teaming up with other Marvel heroes. It's different from what viewers have seen of Spider-Man in the MCU, but it shows a Peter Parker who's young enough for these events to maybe have taken place before the MCU films. Fans don't have to wait for Daredevil: Born Again to see the Man Without Fear, as he is set to appear in the latest episode of the hit Disney+ series Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, is swinging into action in Episode 6 of Spidey's new animated series, set to air this Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, Daredevil and his lawyer alter ego Matt Murdock have been a fixture of the Marvel Universe since he debuted in Daredevil #1 in April 1964. His status as a crime fighter in New York City's Hell's Kitchen means he has regularly crossed paths with Spider-Man, which is a team-up fans are hoping to see play out in live action in the upcoming Spider-Man 4 – especially after Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock and served as Peter Parker's lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Peter Parker hit the big time in last week's episodes of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, donning a spectacular Oscorp suit created for him by Norman Osborn.

However, before showing off his new look as Spider-Man, the teenager was outfitted with three different identities by his mentor: Prodigy, Ricochet, and Dusk. They all flopped, but the series did a phenomenal job translating them from page to screen.

Collider recently spoke to Spider-Man voice actor Hudson Thames and asked if the series diverging from the MCU gave him a little more creative freedom with how he portrayed the web-slinger.

In the fourth episode of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, Peter Parker dons a costume made for him by Norman Osborn. His white Oscorp suit proves a hit but, when the teenager returns to Oscorp to thank his mentor, he inadvertently unmasks in front of Harry Osborn.

The McU's Spider-Man didn't guard his secret identity as closely as some fans would like, though this Variant at least seems to be trying to stop those closest to him from finding out he's a superhero.

Talking to Screen Rant, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man showrunner Jeff Trammell explained why Harry discovered Peter's big secret and how that's likely to play into their relationship moving forward.

"I think there's a part of it where it's really fun to delve into Norman as a mentor, but Norman as a mentor can't kind of be like your day-to-day guy because he is so busy, it would be a detriment to Oscorp.

The clip (via the Spider-Man X account) begins with Speed Demon about to kick a police officer before Spider-Man webs his foot and pulls him away. Spider-Man then webs up Speed Demon while avowing, "I'll tell you what, you guys surrender peacefully and I will ask the cops to give you adjoining cells. Deal?" However, Tarantula then rips the webbing off of Speed Demon, who professes, "I'm gonna rip him apart." Later, as Spider-Man tries webbing Speed Demon up again, Speed Demon dodges the webs. As the clip comes to an end, Tarantula attacks Spider-Man, asserting, "Eyes on me, bug boy!"
