Zack Snyder carves his own bloody path through Norse mythology with the upcoming Netflix animated series “Twilight of the Gods,” and the premiere date has been revealed.
“Twilight of the Gods” will premiere on Netflix September 19, 2024.
Watch the announcement trailer below for a sneak peek.
Zack Snyder presents “Twilight of the Gods,” an all-new daring and spectacular animated vision of Norse mythology. In a mythical world of great battles, great deeds and great despair, Leif, a mortal King, is saved on the battlefield by Sigrid, an iron-willed warrior with whom he falls in love. On their wedding night, Sigrid and Leif survive a wrath of terror from Thor, which sets them – and a crew of crusaders – on an against all odds and merciless mission for vengeance.
“This heroic story of love, loss and revenge, is a journey to Hell and beyond… across fantastical lands, battlefields fierce and bloody, and wars waged against Gods and demons.

Movie lovers will know that Zack Snyder is a very divisive personality in the world of cinema, as you either love his movies or you hate them. With Snyder, there is no in-between; his vision is so specific that you will either like it completely and enjoy his movies or think it completely ridiculous and consider his movies a failure. His most recent outing, the Rebel Moon series, has been panned by critics as Snyder’s worst work, but the filmmaker’s collaboration with Netflix is still strong, as we know that his animated streaming series titled Twilight of the Gods will be released on Netflix in Fall 2024, although a precise release date has not yet been given.
But we know that the series is going to have its premiere at the 2024 Annecy International Animation Film Festival, and ahead of this first screening, Netflix has released the first images from the series,...

The final two seasons of the hit HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones" left fans pretty divided, with some who still loved the show in all its weird glory and others who felt as if many of the characters were let down by the series' writing. While the quality of those later seasons is the source of much contention, one thing is tough to argue: the battles of the final two seasons are pretty darn great. Sure, they're no Battle of the Blackwater or Battle of the Bastards but there are some monumentally cool moments in some of those later battles, especially the Battle of the Frozen Lake in the season 7 episode "Beyond the Wall." According to one of the show's directors, some of those moments were actually improvised right there on the spot. One of the most intense moments in the whole battle, in which fan favorite Tormund Giantsbane...

One of the best things about the sprawling HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones" is that there are an incredible number of wonderful characters with great moments of interaction between them. Sometimes these little moments could be more fun and thrilling than the big battles between zombies and dragons or even the political scheming of wannabe kings and queens, and in the case of one of these moments, it was entirely an improvised moment between some very talented actors. There's a very meme-able moment in the season 7 episode "Beyond the Wall" that features Kristofer Hivju's wildling character Tormund Giantsbane shooting his shot with the woman of his dreams, bringing a great bit of levity to the rather dire circumstances of those later seasons. According to series co-creator and showrunner Dan Weiss, that moment was entirely because of Hivju, which absolutely rules.

New series featuring Fifty Shades of Grey heartthrob Jamie Dornan as identical twins and Julie Delpy as the French president are among the highlights of Netflix’s new British series slate, which the streamer unveiled at an event in London on Thursday.
Dornan, seen recently in Netflix’s The Tourist, will play twin brothers Adam and Lee in The Undertow, a U.K. adaptation of the Norwegian series Twin, which featured Game of Thrones actor Kristofer Hivju in the lead roles. Mackenzie Davis (Station Eleven) plays Nicola, who is stuck in a loveless marriage to Adam before the arrival of his brother Lee turns her life upside down. Kristoffer Metcalfe created the Norwegian original, which Nordisk Film produced. Complete Fiction and wiip are adapting the series, with production to start in Scotland later this year.

Red One, the mystery Christmas movie from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions and screenwriter Chris Morgan, is set to hit theaters worldwide on Nov. 15, 2024.
The Amazon MGM Studios’ epic holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed the movie from a script by Morgan.
Fast and Furious scribe Morgan worked with Johnson on four Fast movies as well as the Johnson-led 2019 spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. The ensemble cast alongside Johnson includes J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Wesley Kimmel.
Amazon has already signaled its push into theatrical movies and the dating of Red One underlines how it has its sights on the holiday corridor starting just before Thanksgiving next year. Seven Bucks also set up Red One at Amazon to take advantage of branding and...

Exclusive, Updated: The latter half of the 2024 theatrical release schedule just got a shot of testosterone as Amazon MGM Studios and Seven Bucks’ epic Christmas action comedy Red One just set an exclusive global theatrical release for Nov. 15, 2024.
Similar to other committed Amazon MGM theatrical titles of late, i.e. Air and Saltburn, Red One will have a theatrical window before streaming on its ultimate home, which is Prime Video.
By releasing Red One theatrically on November 15, Amazon MGM Studios is looking to take advantage of the traditionally lucrative holiday corridor before Thanksgiving. Rival wide releases on Nov. 15 include Warner Bros. Robert De Niro mobster movie, Alto Knights and Lionsgate and Kingdom Story’s The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. I hear that the movie has tested twice and scores were through the roof. This was in the last week, we understand. The original testing of the movie over the summer...

A dozen years have gone by since the release of director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.’s prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic The Thing (watch the prequel Here). Looking back at the project now, van Heijningen has some regrets over the way the special effects were handled on the film, and that he was never able to make the sequel they had plans for.
Directed by van Heijningen from a screenplay written by Eric Heisserer and based on the short story Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell (using the pen name Don A. Stuart), The Thing 2011 has the following synopsis: After Norwegian researchers discover an alien ship buried in the ice, paleontologist Kate Lloyd joins the team at the isolated Arctic outpost to investigate. She finds an organism that appears to have perished in the crash eons ago but, in fact, is about to awake. Freed from its icy prison,...

Director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear (read our review Here, get a copy at This Link) wasn’t exactly a blockbuster – it earned $89 million at the worldwide box office on a budget in the range of 30 to 35 million – but it did get a lot of positive attention when it was released. And I thought it was a blast to watch. So I welcome a Cocaine Bear 2… and during an interview with Rolling Stone, Banks said she would also welcome it.
When asked about the possibility of working on a sequel, Banks told Rolling Stone, “I had an absolutely great time working on the (first movie). I loved how subversive, crazy, silly, and funny it was. I loved surprising people with the cast. I don’t think anybody was expecting Margo Martindale, who’s 70 years old, to shoot that kid. Many movies are only as good as their villain. So it goes with the "Fast and Furious" franchise that has somehow managed to produce 11 films (and counting) despite lukewarm success in the bad guy category. Our heroes, led by Vin Diesel's fearless Dominic Toretto, have gone toe-to-toe with a staggering collection of veteran actors with mixed results, often achieving victory relatively quickly in the face of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Thankfully, a handful of notable evil-doers in the "Fast Saga" stand out amongst the fleet and punch above the script on the way to bad-guy glory. With the new "Fast X" driving over box office records, we thought it'd be prudent to run through the entire series and separate the villains who kicked it into fifth gear from those stuck on neutral. So, we present all the villains in the "Fast and Furious" franchise (including Jason Momoa) ranked from worst...

Zack Snyder has been a busy boy since his guardianship of the DC movie universe came to an end following principal photography on "Justice League." Though he eventually returned to finish his version of that film, the multi-hyphenate filmmaker has since settled in firmly at Netflix and is focusing on original stories rather than pre-existing franchises. Among these projects is "Twilight of the Gods," a 2D animated action series based on Norse mythology.
The project marks another return to Snyder's filmmaking roots. He made his feature directorial debut in 2004 with the very well-received remake of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead," and his first project for Netflix was the Las Vegas-set undead action horror "Army of the Dead." Snyder's second feature-length film debuted back in 2006 and secured his status as a rising talent to watch: the epic historical war movie "300," inspired by the legendary Battle of Thermopylae. Director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear (read our review Here) already received a digital release a few weeks ago, but another digital release is coming up later this month – and this release is being called the Maximum Rampage Edition! The Maximum Rampage Edition will be available digitally on April 14th and will be reaching Blu-ray and DVD on April 18th. Physical media copies can be pre-ordered at This Link.
Cocaine Bear is based on true events that took place in Kentucky in 1985. As our own Kevin Fraser reported last year, the true story goes like this: “In 1985, convicted drug smuggler Andrew Thornton was on a smuggling run from Columbia and had dumped several packages full of cocaine before bailing from the plane himself. Unfortunately, he hit his head on the tail of the aircraft and wound up in a freefall to the ground where he was found dead in someone’s driveway.

There's a horror movie remake that's absolutely blowing up on Netflix, leaving some film fans befuddled. Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s 2011 remake-slash-secret-prequel of John Carpenter's 1982 horror masterpiece "The Thing" is a divisive film that left most fans of the original feeling left out in the cold, but for some reason it's one of the hottest things on Netflix right now. Honestly, some folks who love Carpenter's version might find faults with any remake, but this remake allegedly had a troubled production with lots of studio meddling, and it ended up being a victim of its own marketing hype. So why is it suddenly trending on Netflix? Are new fans without all of that baggage discovering it for the first time, or are old ones finally giving it a reappraisal with the clarity of time? Or are people just confused and think it's the Carpenter version because they share the same name,...

A movie that starts off with a comic bump and cites Wikipedia as a source can’t be bad, can it?
If you take it seriously, it’s a B-movie with little plot and a series of “well-worn” jokes that are probably funnier after you’ve had two or three whiskeys or your favorite substance.
If you don’t take it seriously: it’s an eighties revival that’s lot of fun and is done with period effects.
Very funny.

However, Yeoh’s biggest fans have posted videos on social media of her showing off her vocal chops while singing the theme song of her 1993 movie “Butterfly and Sword.”

This post contains spoilers for "Cocaine Bear."
"Cocaine Bear" is a bit of a strange movie, but you probably expected that coming in, didn't you? The film certainly does get gleefully violent at times, something that arguably gets hampered due to its usage of CGI in combination with practical effects. Some viewers may not notice this overlay, while others, such as myself, might take issue with it. No what you end up thinking, you'll still walk away appreciating how a mid-budget studio feature can get away with the types of kills featured here.
One of the most intriguing was the sudden and off-screen death of Olaf (Kristofer Hivju), a tourist whose fiancée Elsa (Hannah Hoekstra) was the titular bear's first kill. Towards the end of the film, we hear him scream, only to find out a few minutes later that he was mauled to death. The reveal is very quick and obscured in darkness,...

“Cocaine Bear” roared its way to the top of the Thursday box office with $2 million in previews.
Universal’s comedy-thriller will play in 3,534 North American theaters starting Friday. It’s slated to open somewhere in the mid-teens, with the possibility of hitting $20 million in ticket sales this weekend. For a comparison, the Christmas action comedy “Violent Night” made $1.1 million in Thursday preview showings to kick off a $13 million opening weekend.
Directed by Elizabeth Banks, Jimmy Warden’s stranger-than-fiction screenplay tells the story of Cokey the Bear, a Black bear who in 1985 consumed a large amount of cocaine a drug runner had dropped into a Georgia forest. In real life, the bear died shortly thereafter, but in this wild retelling it goes on a murderous rampage while on the prowl for more blow.

As the forced hibernation of an often (in some parts of the US) ends lots of folks, besides the college kids, are making plans for the big “Spring break”. Aside from hitting the beaches, a good percentage will haul out the camping gear and make their journey into the woods to commune with Mother Nature. Oh, but what if “mama’ is not very welcome, especially those animal residents? These “humans vs. the wild” showdowns have been film thriller fodder for decades with the “king” Jaws, Frogs, Night Of The Grizzly, and Day Of The Animals, And you remember how The Revenant grabbed a load of Oscars in 2015. Perhaps its most shocking scene pitted the story’s hero against a ferocious bear (the producers tagged as “Judy”). Now she was protecting her cubs, while the title star of this new flick, which is “inspired by true events” has a very different...

Cocaine Bear is exactly what you want, need, and expect it to be. Director Elizabeth Banks assembled a cast willing to just go for it, and together they’ve delivered one of the funniest, most insane R-rated horror / comedy / thriller / crime caper / buddy comedy / cautionary tale / coming-of-age films in history. Of course, it helps that there are very few, if any, films that have dipped their toes into that many genres all at once and been successful while doing so.
Cocaine Bear’s very loosely inspired by a true story. Fact: In 1985, a 175-pound black bear, now lovingly referred to as Pablo Escobear, did ingest cocaine that had fallen from a plane. Fact: The bricks of cocaine tumbled into the bear’s path after drug smuggler Andrew Thornton (played by The Americans’ Matthew Rhys in a brief but memorable cameo) tossed them from a plane and then followed them out.

The title says it all. Just like Snakes on a Plane was about just that, the new horror comedy Cocaine Bear is about a 500-pound bear on a jihad after coming upon a ton of cocaine dropped into rural Georgia on a drug run gone wrong. The bear ingests the coke, and soon you have a beast roaring out of control and devouring whatever human comes onto his path. It is all not to be taken seriously, but fortunately director Elizabeth Banks is smart enough to give audiences hungry for a Jaws in the wilderness some nice scares mixed in with the laughs plus a bit more bang for their buck than just a marketable title.

Universal Pictures is giving director Elizabeth Banks’ “character-driven thriller” Cocaine Bear a theatrical release tomorrow, February 24th (you can read some early reactions Here), and some movie-goers are already hoping for a follow-up that would be called Cocaine Shark. It remains to be seen is there’s going to be a sequel at all, let alone one that would go aquatic, but during a conversation with Variety screenwriter Jimmy Warden (who happens to be married to genre icon Samara Weaving) confirmed that he has ideas for multiple sequels.
When asked if he has a sequel in mind, Warden replied, “Yeah, for sure. Not just a sequel. Many sequels. Cocaine Bear in Space is where we would probably end.“
When the interviewer said they couldn’t tell if he was kidding or not, Warden continued: “No, I’m f*cking with you about Cocaine Bear Goes to Space. But for the sequels,...

It is still early in 2023, but several movies have already left quite the impression on moviegoers, such as Blumhouse's killer doll flick "M3GAN" and M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller "Knock at the Cabin." But perhaps the craziest movie of the year is hitting theaters soon: "Cocaine Bear."
Directed by Elizabeth Banks ("Pitch Perfect 2"), the film is actually loosely based on a true story of a bear that, as the title implies, ingested a ton of cocaine. What could possibly go wrong? The movie has an absolutely stacked A-list cast led by the likes of Keri Russell and Ray Liota, in one of his final performances. As for the specifics of it, the synopsis for the film reads as follows:

Margo Martindale is one of the stars of Cocaine Bear, the dark comedy action film directed by Elizabeth Banks. The story is based on true events from 1985 when an American black bear ingested a duffel bag full of cocaine.
Martindale is in disbelief she is even in the movie sharing with EW, “I never thought at age 70 I would be doing an action movie, but I guess I did!”
The Emmy-award-winning actor plays a forest ranger that comes across the animal that gives the film its title.
“She’s no-nonsense,” Martindale said. “She’s devoted to her craft, wanting to go up in the ranger world, does everything by the book, and has her heart set on [a character played by] Jesse Tyler Ferguson.”
Martindale was surprised at how physical she had to be while filming as she had to do her own “stunts.”

Now your high scores can be extra high with the new Cocaine Bear video game, an 8-bit bender inspired by Pacman and the titular ursine hero.
Somewhat loosely based on a true story, both film and game involve a curious black bear, a drugrunner’s plane crush, and lots and lots of unseasonable snow. In Cocaine Bear: The Rise of Pablo Escobear, your bear must navigate a maze and snack on unsuspecting humans. Your ability to keep raging depends on how much cocaine you ingest, and if you come down too far, the party’s over. Check it out through the official website.
The film is directed by Elizabeth Banks and stars Keri Russell, Margo Martindale, Alden Ehrenreich, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Kristofer Hivju, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kahyun Kim, Christian Convery, Brooklynn Prince, Scott Seiss, and a posthumous performance by Ray Liotta. Elizabeth Banks’ crazy upcoming film Cocaine Bear may be the start of a glorious cinematic universe. Thanks to a recent police discovery off the coast of New Zealand, Banks has confirmed interest in making a Cocaine Shark movie.
Earlier this week, police down under discovered more than three tons of cocaine floating in the Pacific Ocean as part of a drug-smuggling scheme. Naturally, the internet immediately began joking about sea animals discovering the drugs, since Cocaine Bear was inspired by a real black bear that got its paws on a bag of coke in a Georgia forest in 1985.
Banks herself heard the story, and she told People it could lend itself to something of a Cocaine Shark. “If there’s a great story, then sure,” the director said. “Jaws with cocaine, I don’t see how that loses.”

The Marvel Cinematic Universe did not release a film from a female director until 2019, when Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck’s “Captain Marvel” first hit theaters. But in an alternate corner of the multiverse, the first female-helmed film from Marvel Studios may have come two years earlier, had Elizabeth Banks wound up directing Chris Hemsworth in 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok.”
Banks, whose third directorial effort “Cocaine Bear” releases later this month, revealed that she was “really interested” in directing the superhero flick in a new cover story with Variety. Banks told the publication that the movie attracted her attention because of Marvel’s plans to take the character of Thor into a zanier, more light-heartened in his third lead outing.
“I have an attraction to the sensibility,” she said. “That character being funny and knowing how good Chris is at making fun of himself, that’s my vibe.”

This article contains Fast and Furious franchise spoilers
Coinciding with its “bigger and louder” trend, The Fast and the Furious franchise significantly upped its villain game as the series progressed. Bad guys in the early entries are forgettably bland, but the latter films feature some incredible villains.
In this ranking, we’ve excluded characters who were antagonists but not true villains, heroes briefly coerced into turning heel, and garden variety henchmen. The caveat to this is the Shaw brothers, who were the villains of the sixth and seventh films but eventually allied with the heroes (we can only assume they were redeemed by the sheer power of Family). But since they were villains, they remain on the list.
14. Johnny Tran

Kit Harington is giving fans a hint as to where HBO's Jon Snow spinoff of "Game of Thrones" will pick up the story with everyone's favorite broody King in the North. Speaking at the official "Game of Thrones" convention on Dec. 11, Harington spoke about Jon's ending, and though he didn't mention the spinoff by name, he pointed toward where the show could pick up.

Instead, after assassinating Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) - who was his lover, his aunt, and his queen - he went to live in the North, beyond the Wall, with...

The latest movie trailer to take the internet by storm is one for the upcoming film, “Cocaine Bear”. As seen in the extended preview for the upcoming action-packed, blood-filled horror comedy, which is (shockingly) inspired by true events, a black bear goes on the offensive after consuming an insane amount of cocaine and terrorizes a variety of people in the local area.
According to Universal Pictures, after a trafficker’s plane crashes in a Georgia forest, a 500-pound apex predator ingests the drugs that fell out before turning on a “group of cops, criminals, tourists and teens” while “on a coke-fueled rampage for more blow … and blood.”
Directed by Elizabeth Banks, who shared the trailer on Twitter with the caption, “the forest is a dangerous place,” the film stars Keri Russell, O’Shea Jackson, Jr., Christian Convery-Jennings, Alden Ehrenreich, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Brooklynn Prince, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Kristofer Hivju, Hannah Hoekstra,...
