Jarred Harris is sharing an honest perspective on his Marvel debut.
The Golden Globe nominee explained that he keeps a “sense of humour” about his role in Sony‘s Morbius (2022), chalking up his appearance in the maligned Spider-Verse spin-off to a paycheck during a recent interview.
“I have got a mortgage to pay, you know,” he told British outlet i News. “Sometimes you say yes to things because you need to make money.”
Harris explained, “I have observed that those types of films do well if you have a sense of humour. You can’t treat it as though it’s Shakespeare. So yeah, that movie could have done with a more mischievous sense of humour.”
The actor appeared in Morbius as Dr. Emil Nicholas, a mentor and father figure to Dr. Michael Morbius (Jared Leto), who runs a facility for people with incurable illnesses.

HBO shows are mostly known for leaving the audience affected by their character-driven narratives. But the network's most devastating miniseries is the starkest example, as it tells a very compelling — and real — story in which the focus isn't on the characters at all, but rather on a catastrophic event. The 2019 miniseries Chernobyl, created by Craig Mazin, follows the events and the aftermath of the infamous nuclear incident at the Chernobyl nuclear plant in 1986, tracking main character Valery Legasov (Jarred Harris) as he's forced to navigate the inescapable bureaucracy of the Soviet government while investigating the causes of the incident and how to prevent it from happening again. Legasov's conclusions, however, aren't tied only to the Soviet government, and act as a dark omen of many things happening in our world.

The Russian political party, and successor to the ruling party of the Soviet Union, formally named The Communists of Russia has issued a statement pushing for a television ban on HBO’s acclaimed limited series “Chernobyl” (via The Wrap). The group is urging Roskomnadzor, Russia’s TV regulator, not to air the series because it is an “ideological tool” that’s being used to “demonize” the Soviet government. The five-episode “Chernobyl” made its U.S. debut May 6 and aired its series finale June 3. The Communist party calls the series “disgusting.”
“In the ‘Chernobyl’ series, genuine tragedy became the object of ideological manipulation on the part of HBO,” Communists of Russia party member Sergey Malinkovich said. “The TV series about the dramatic events of April 1986 is an ideological tool designed to defame and demonize the image of the Soviet government and Soviet people.”
The statement continues, “Although the chronology of the...

Dame Judi Dench has another feather to add to her cap, as she has just been announced as this year’s recipient of the Richard Harris Award by the British Independent Film Awards. Bestowed upon performers for “outstanding contribution by an actor to British film,” the award was first established 17 years ago. Previous honorees include Daniel Day-Lewis, Helena Bonham Carter, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Julie Walters, John Hurt, and Emma Thompson.
“Dangerous on stage, on screen and apparently behind the wheel of a car, Dame Judi Dench and Richard Harris have a lot in common!” said Jarred Harris, whose father the award is named for. “We are delighted that she has agreed to accept this award. Dame Judi has stolen every scene she has ever been in, and stolen our hearts along the way. Although she hates being called a national treasure and prefers to be thought of as a jobbing actor,...
