Jake Gyllenhaal is known for his prominent roles outside the superhero genre, but he was once considered for both ‘Batman’ and ‘Spider-Man’ roles. However, he ended up portraying the villain Mysterio in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man series within the MCU.
Gyllenhaal was also a contender for the role of the Dark Knight in Christopher Nolan’s films before Christian Bale landed the part. In a recent interview with Screenrant, Gyllenhaal shared his perspective on potentially playing Batman in the newly rebooted Dcu.
Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor. Jake Gyllenhaal’s most famous roles are not usually associated with the superhero world although he was at one point, considered to play both ‘Batman’ and ‘Spider-Man.’ He did ultimately play villain Mysterio in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man franchise in the MCU.
Gyllenhaal was in the running to play the Dark Knight in Nolan’s films before the role eventually went to Christian Bale. Now in an interview with Screerant, Gyllenhaal revealed his stance on playing Batman in the newly rebooted Dcu:

After ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,’ the DC Universe (Dcu) officially assumed control from the Dceu, placing iconic comic characters under the guidance of Safran and Gunn. Although the animated show ‘Creature Commandos’ is intended to inaugurate the Dcu, the live-action dimension commences with the release of ‘Superman: Legacy,’ identified by Safran and Gunn as the true starting point of the Dceu. Other confirmed projects include ‘The Authority,’ centered on the eponymous team, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ featuring Milly Alcock as Dcu’s Supergirl, and ‘Paradise Lost,’ a TV series delving into Wonder Woman-themed narratives on Themyscira.
Despite casting major roles like Superman, Lois Lane, and Supergirl, the live-action Batman in the Dcu remains unknown. According to Charles Murphy, the next significant role the studio is set to cast is that of the Caped Crusader, with a casting call anticipated to be released “very soon.”

Following the release of ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ Dcu officially took over from the Dceu and now some of the most iconic characters in comics history are in the hands of Safran and Gunn. The Dcu is meant to start with the animated show ‘Creature Commandos,’ however, the live-action portion of this cinematic universe is kicking off the release of ‘Superman: Legacy’ which both Safran and Gunn consider to be the true start of Dceu. Several other projects are also confirmed to be in development, ‘The Authority’ focusing on the team of the same name, ‘Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’ that would see Milly Alcock in the role of Dcu’s Supergirl, ‘Paradise Lost’ a tv show focusing on Wonder Woman-oriented lore set on Themyscira.

Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer? In a show together? Where one of them plays a highly trained assassin? Yep, that works for us. While the show doesn't yet have an official title, it does have a home; Prime Video has snapped up the show and handed out an eight-episode first season order.
Tessa Coates came up with the concept and will serve as executive producer. In the show, Waddingham plays Judith, who has secretly been working as a highly trained assassin. There’s a new dynamic duo coming to Prime Video now that Oscar-winner Octavia Spencer and Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham are teaming up for a straight-to-series comedy project from creator Tessa Coates. In addition to their starring roles, Spencer and Waddingham executive produce. Prime Video won the rights to host the project after a competitive situation. The concept comes from Skydance Television.
The 8-episode series hails from one of Coates’ original ideas. It focuses on two best friends, Judith (Waddingham) and Debbie (Spencer), who think they know everything about each other. Lucky for us, their friendship goes to the next level when Debbie learns about Judith’s double life as a highly trained assassin. Debbie gets caught up in Judith’s mess when a hit goes terribly wrong, and the duo must run for their lives while trying to repair their shattered trust. Meanwhile, a mysterious killer attempts to snuff them out at every turn,...

Oscar winner Octavia Spencer (Truth Be Told) and Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (Ted Lasso) are set to star in and executive produce a new comedy series from creator Tessa Coates (Feel Good). In a highly competitive situation with multiple bidders, the as-yet-untitled series from Skydance Television has landed at Prime Video with a straight-to-series order.
The 8-episode series, based on an original pitch from Coates, follows two best friends, Judith (Waddingham) and Debbie (Spencer), who know everything about each other—or do they? Unbeknownst to Debbie, Judith has been living a double life as a highly trained assassin. When a hit goes horribly wrong, the pair must go on the run together and work to repair their broken friendship—all while being targeted by a mysterious enemy who wants them dead.

Consider this Thelma & Louise meets Jack Ryan.
Amazon, following an intensive bidding war, has landed the action-adventure show starring Hannah Waddingham and Octavia Spencer with an eight-episode, straight-to-series order.
The untitled show is based on an original idea from Tessa Coates (Feel Good) that was taken out to six of the major streamers, four of which bought the show while in the room and with the others also making offers before Amazon emerged the victor, prompting the pitch to the seventh streamer to be canceled. The series was one of few new original scripted ideas that generated multiple offers in what many Hollywood insiders say has been an unusually quiet marketplace after the writers strike.
Ted Lasso Emmy winner Waddingham and The Help Oscar winner Octavia Spencer will star as best friends Judith and Debbie, respectively, who work to repair their friendship after Debbie learns Judith is a highly trained assassin.

The Max series Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), went into production in Port Hope, Ontario earlier this year, aiming for a Halloween 2024 premiere. But, of course, the show’s progress has been slowed by the lengthy writers strike, which recently ended, and the ongoing actors strike. So the premiere is being pushed back a bit. Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, has said that we probably won’t see Welcome to Derry until 2025.
Deadline reports that Bloys said, “We had had [Welcome To Derry] scheduled for Halloween ’24 but it will likely be pushing into ’25.“

Warner Bros. Pictures and DC’s The Flash, which hit theaters in June, now has a date for its streaming debut on Max: the superhero pic starring Ezra Miller will bow Friday, August 25.
The film, in which Miller reprised his role as Barry Allen in the superhero’s first stand-alone pic, was highly touted by incoming DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran, but it saw a sluggish bow in theaters. It opened to $55.1 million over its first three days domestically, and $64M over the Juneteenth holiday frame. Along with a similarly tepid performance overseas, all those numbers were below expectations for a DC tentpole with a budget of $200M.
The pic, directed by Andy Muschietti, is currently sitting on a $268.5 million global box office total.
Along with Miller, the ensemble cast included Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdú, Kiersey Clemons, Antje Traue and Michael Keaton.

DC’s “The Flash” is set to stream on Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max starting Aug. 25.
The first-ever standalone feature film for Barry Allen, which stars Ezra Miller and is directed by Andy Muschetti, follows the titular superhero as he uses his powers to travel back in time to change the events of the past.
But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for.
The streaming announcement comes as the film was a commercial disappointment when it hit theaters back in May. It grossed $108 million domestically and just $268 million worldwide.

There is at least one episode of almost every adventure TV show where the good guys and the bad guys team up to take on a greater threat, like when the 1990s syndicated “Untouchables” show saw Elliott Ness and Al Capone team up to catch a child murderer.
Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie dropped tweets last Wednesday promoting rival theatrical films. Tom Cruise recognizes he won’t be the only game in town this summer — at least, he wants you to think he recognizes he won’t be the only game in town this summer.
On Wednesday, the star of the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One tweeted pictures of himself in front of three posters for movies coming out in the next month: Oppenheimer, Barbie and Joy Ride.
He also gave a shout out to Harrison Ford and how he’s reprising his signature role.
“This summer is full of amazing movies to see in theaters,” he wrote. “Congratulations, Harrison Ford, on 40 years of Indy and one of the most iconic characters in history. I love a double feature, and it doesn’t get more explosive (or more pink) than one with Oppenheimer and Barbie.”

The multiyear deals were announced by Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, co-chairs and CEOs, Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, and Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO, Warner Bros. Television Group.

The Flash director Andy Muschietti is sharing his reaction to Tom Cruise calling him to praise the DC film.
In March, sources exclusively told The Hollywood Reporter that Cruise saw the movie and loved it so much that he cold-called Muschietti, to rave about it. According to insiders, the Mission: Impossible actor said something to the effect that Flash is “everything you want in a movie” and “this is the kind of movie we need now.”
Months later, Muschietti was asked about the call during a recent interview with GamesRadar. When talking about if he felt pressure with so much talk around the Ezra Miller-led film, the filmmaker said, “No.”
“If anything, [we got] more confidence in the thing that we did, because the movie was finished by the time that [Cruise and Stephen King] saw it, so it was a confidence boost if anything,” he added.

Tom Cruise is praising The Flash, the film starring Ezra Miller and directed by Andy Muschietti. The Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning star got an advanced screening of the DC superhero movie and gave Andy and his sister Barbara Muschietti a “confidence boost.”

Warner Bros.’ “The Flash” already has a few high profile fans before its theatrical release. In a recent interview with Total Film magazine, Andy Muschietti and “The Flash” producer Barbara Muschietti confirmed Cruise’s phone call.

Long before the DCEU_ in 1992, Keaton decided to hang up the cowl for good.
Until now. In The Flash – the long-awaited headline film for super-speedy DC hero Barry Allen (Ezra Miller), directed by Andy Muschietti and produced by Barbara Muschietti – multiversal machinations send the Scarlet Speedster hurtling into an alternate reality. And in that dimension, Bruce Wayne no longer comes in the form of Ben Affleck, but an older, grizzled Michael Keaton. Cue the Batdance. “I never thought that Keaton would come back as Batman, let alone us doing it, and me directing,” says Andy.
If every Batman has had its own flavour – from Robert Pattinson’s emo detective, to Christian Bale’s city slicker, to Ben Affleck’s beefy brawler – Keaton’s Bat was always stoic, formidable, and just a little bit nuts. “His characterisation of Bruce Wayne – and Batman – was mind-blowing,” says Andy. “The Flash” has received high praise from folks like Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav and newly installed DC Films co-chief James Gunn. But for “The Flash” director Andy Muschietti, one of the best endorsements of the project came from the legendary star who “saved Hollywood’s ass.”
That would be Tom Cruise, of course. In March, The Hollywood Reporter revealed Cruise had seen the film after meeting with Zaslav about something unrelated to the film earlier this year. “Cruise was so taken by what he saw that soon after, he reached out to Muschietti,” The Hollywood Reporter’s Borys Kit wrote at the time. “It was a call out of the blue for the director. Cruise is said to have raved about the movie, saying something to the effect that ‘Flash’ is ‘everything you want in a movie’ and ‘this is the kind of movie we need now,’ according to insiders.

On Friday, June 16, an Ezra Miller movie called The Flash will finally play on cinema screens around the world. For Miller and members of the Warner Bros. Pictures team who were there in 2014 when the project was first announced, it is the culmination of nearly a decade of work, false starts, and the arduous process of seeing various directors and writers board and exit the production.
And yet, the actual atmosphere around the release seems relatively muted. Until the movie’s Los Angeles premiere earlier this week, Miller was conspicuously absent from all press days, leaving director Andy Muschietti and his sister/producer Barbara Muschietti, as well as stars Sasha Challe and Michael Shannon, to do all the interviews. Meanwhile, social media chatter seems to be as much concerned with the controversy surrounding Miller, as well as the film’s troubled production history, as it is with anything in the actual picture.

After a year-plus of tabloid headlines about its star Ezra Miller, Warner Bros./DC’s Covid-delayed $200M Justice League standalone superhero movie, The Flash, finally arrives in theaters. The global opening looks better than domestic, $155M-$165M global to a $70M+ in U.S./Canada.
Despite a very good response out of CinemaCon and DC co-boss James Gunn exclaiming that the pic is “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made,” along with reports on how the movie is set to reset the DC-verse, The Flash has been sitting around $70M-$75M on tracking for quite some time.

Tom Cruise wanted to make sure “The Flash” team knew they had completed an (almost) impossible mission with a standout superhero film.

The Bennifer era is back upon us. All eyes — and cameras — were upon Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez at “The Flash” premiere at Ovation Hollywood Monday night.
Affleck reprises his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the superhero spin-off. Ezra Miller is back as the titular lead, but the actor kept a relatively low profile on the red carpet.
In addition to the cast and crew, there was a strong “Never Have I Ever” presence, with actors Richa Moorjani, Lee Rodriguez and Michael Cimino all in attendance. Also showing her support was Jessica Chastain, though she does not appear in the movie.
The DC film opens June 16. In the film, worlds collide when the Flash uses his superpowers to travel back in time to change the events of the past. For example, there’s not only Affleck’s Batman, but also a Batman played by Michael Keaton, who donned the Batsuit in the 1989 blockbuster.

Last night marked the premiere of DC’s The Flash as well as a rare public appearance of the movie’s star, Ezra Miller. The publicity of The Flash had a delicate line to walk as the studio decided to push forward with the release of the movie in the wake of the shocking revelations of legal trouble Miller has been involved with. When news broke and continued to develop, many thought the film was marred by the controversy so badly that Warner Bros. might cancel the release as they had previously done to their Batgirl film, or at the very least, a quiet release on their streaming platform, Max (HBOMax at the time).
Instead, Warners pushed through and used a word-of-mouth campaign as the main focus of their marketing for the movie, with claims like it is the “greatest superhero movie ever.” The studio’s stipulation for the Barry Allen...

After staying out of the limelight in the lead-up to The Flash, star Ezra Miller made a rare public appearance at the DC film’s premiere Monday, posing for photos and making brief remarks to the crowd in Hollywood.

Warner Bros. held the premiere for the long-awaited DC spinoff The Flash today in Hollywood with its star Ezra Miller, who has been the subject of several tabloid headlines from alleged assaults in Hawaii to unlawful trespassing at a neighbor’s house in Vermont, making their red carpet debut since such incidents.
Miller made an appearance on the red carpet at Ovation Hollywood sporting a bun and wearing a white jacket paired with black slacks.
Before the screening, Miller thanked multiple people like director Andy Muschietti, Zach Snyder and Warner Bros. Discovery boss David Zaslav. Miller also had some words for “the dynamic duo” Peter Safran and James Gunn saying he was grateful “for your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life and in bringing this moment to fruition.”

We’re in the final leg of promotion before the long-awaited solo film for The Flash is finally released. And Warner Bros. might have audiences think it’s more of a third Michael Keaton Batman movie. The century-old studio has been given a difficult task of marketing the film while working around its star following a series of criminal troubles Ezra Miller has been charged with. Miller has already been absent from the press circuit and will even only make an appearance at the film’s premiere in a more low-key nature.
Back when Miller’s public image had been tarnished with the shocking revelations of the crimes committed, many thought the film was doomed. People had seen no way to promote the film or garner interest with a known offender at the forefront. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. was not planning to pull a Batgirl with this...

In late August 2022, Ezra Miller trekked to Warner Bros. for their first meeting with film chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy. The sit-down followed months of legal and personal troubles for the actor, with a string of arrests and bad headlines threatening to derail The Flash, the $200 million feature Miller had been attached to since 2014. A few weeks earlier, Miller apologized for their behavior — which included trespassing and choking a woman in Iceland in an incident captured on video — citing “complex mental health issues.”
The question on everyone’s mind that day in August: Could Miller stay out of trouble, and out of the headlines, long enough for The Flash to safely enter theaters? Ten months later, the answer appears to be yes. Miller has not only stayed out of the headlines, but the actor is nowhere to be found in the press as the film sprints toward its June 16 release date.

Despite all the noise The Flash star Ezra Miller created off set in the last year including a burglary charge for stealing liquor from a neighbor’s house in Vermont, among myriad other tabloid headlines, filmmakers who’ve worked with the actor vouch they’re the consummate professional with zero melodrama on set.
Daliland filmmaker Mary Harron told us this out of TIFF about Miller who plays the young artist in that film, and Flash director Andy Muschietti and sister producing partner Barbara Muschietti continue to underscore that.
Andy Muschietti tells us on the latest episode of Crew Call that Miller is “definitely one of my best experiences with an actor in my whole career.”
“I knew it from the movies I’ve seen with them. It wasn’t until I met them, that I realized that they were an impeccable comedian as well,” the director continues.
