The tagline of 1979's Alien was "In space no one can hear you scream." It's grabby, though not entirely accurate: Film history abounds with instances of galactic hollering, often about things gone awry. To cap a year that added Guardians of the Galaxy, Interstellar, and, why not, the Force Awakens trailer (call it a placeholder) to the space movie canon, we worked with supercut maestro Jonathan Keogh to stitch together the most memorable examples of malfunctions in the cosmos.

If you're cinephile, there's a good chance you've encountered Steven Jay Schneider's book 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die. The book is updated all the time, with the most recent addition including the titles Argo and Django Unchained. It's a pretty hefty book, but it's quite the comprehensive list of blockbusters, cult classics, foreign films and acclaimed Oscar winners. But if you're one of those not interested in combing through the heavy tome, film fanatic Jonathan Keogh has put together a video running through all of these films in just 10 minutes.
