Berlin, Nov 3 (Ians) The upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar is an unprecedented mental challenge for footballers, says Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich.
With roughly two weeks to go until the tournament’s kick-off, “it is somehow strange to think of it as we are still busy with national and international club competitions,” the 27-year-old said.
“There is something important as a World Cup waiting, but you are currently stuck in your daily rhythm. And that (is the case) more or less right until the first World Cup group game.”
Coaches and players are aware that things will significantly change compared to the past World Cup tournaments, Kimmich stated.
In the past, players and coaches enjoyed the opportunity to prepare over several weeks “but now you have all sorts of other things in your mind.”
Therefore, the 2022 tournament is coming along as a never-before-experienced challenge, reports Xinhua.

Berlin, May 18 (Ians) Anger is brewing among fans of German football club Bayern Munich following the departure of head coach Hansi Flick and icons such as David Alaba, Jerome Boateng and Javi Martinez.
The anger is being directed at the designated chairman of the club, Oliver Kahn, and sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, who have been accused of jeopardising the club's motto "Mia san Mia" (We are what we are), reports Xinhua.
Bayern has more than 358,000 enrolled members and 4,500 fan clubs.
Fans say that Salihamidzic had turned the motto into "Me-myself-and I".
The fans have also started targeting new Bayern coach, 33-year-old Julian Nagelsmann, who, they say, is the reason behind the latest departure of assistant coaches Miroslav Klose and Hermann Gerland.
"How can it be that there is no space for the fans' biggest heroes?" a fan asked on social media.

World Cup-winning German soccer player Bastian Schweinsteiger is to be the subject of a new Amazon documentary.
Made by German production company Barefoot Films and produced by Til Schweiger, the film will chart Schweinsteiger’s glittering career, which peaked with lifting the World Cup in 2014.
Schweinsteiger played for Bayern Munich, Manchester United and ended his career at Chicago Fire, where he made 85 appearances. As well as following his on-field exploits, the film will have access to his life away from the pitch.
“With this documentary, that is exclusively available on Prime Video, great cinema meets great football,” said Christoph Schneider, managing director of Prime Video Germany.
The film will stream in Germany, Austria and Switzerland this year. It is the latest in a long line of Amazon sport documentaries, including All Or Nothing: Manchester City and Andy Murray: Resurfacing.

Most of the talk surrounding Manchester United’s transfer window activity has centred on who they might be bringing in, but now speculation turns to who might leave, with reports in Italy suggesting Marouane Fellaini could be headed for the Old Trafford exit.
Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera (via Sky Sports) are reporting that the Belgian midfielder is a target for AC Milan, with either a permanent deal or a loan for the remainder of the season.
Fellaini hasn’t had the easiest of times at Manchester United since his deadline day move from Everton back in September 2013, with the man who brought him to the club – David Moyes – being sacked, and replacement Louis van Gaal using him as something of a desperation striking option, drawing fans’ ire for the use of long-ball football when he’s deployed as a makeshift ‘number 9’.

Brendan Rodgers simply had to go. His once intuitive, fresh and admirable management style rapidly became infected by poor results, ill self-awareness and the inability to handle Liverpool’s fleeting cycle of expectation.
Less than 24 hours after Rodgers’ sacking, Jurgen Klopp emerged as the leading candidate to succeed the Northern Irish coach and despite wanting a year away from football it looks likely he will return to management after just five months away. Hallelujah. Football without the former Dortmund boss is like Bastian Schweinsteiger playing for Manchester United, it’s not quite right and makes you feel you nostalgic about former Bundesliga campaigns.
The 48-year-old took over Dortmund in 2008 after the club finished 13th in Bundesliga under their previous manager Thomas Doll. Dortmund won two successive Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and reached the Champions League final in 2013 at Wembley under Klopp’s stewardship. Despite leaving...

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes that Louis van Gaal should bring in a replacement of similar quality if they are to sell Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain. Neville, who praised the club’s summer transfer business is concerned about the Red Devils losing such an attacking threat and thinks a new face should be brought in imminently.
His comments make sense. The removal of Di Maria (despite his questionable form last season) leaves Manchester United with an unbalanced link between midfield and attack and new signings, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin would be unable to repair it. Ander Herrera is more of a textbook centre midfielder and does not possess the pace, acceleration or dribbling skills that their Argentine midfielder would bring to van Gaal’s midfield trio.
Di Maria is best used on the left side of a 4-4-2 diamond formation...

There aren’t many players like Arturo Vidal.
Essentially, he covers the space from one 18-yard box to the other and whether it’s passing, tackling or shooting he can do everything. Vidal does it all. He can be detonated at any point during the 90 minutes and the effect is outrageous. Like a midfield powered-up Pac-Man he glides through midfield spaces, challenges for every loose ball and starts frequent fast-paced counter attacks. If you thought Bayern Munich had bought themselves a £26 million Bastian Schweinsteiger like-for-like replacement then you thought wrong…
Schweinsteiger was a man of leisure; he masterfully conducted Bayern’s midfield from the half way line, something he has done effortlessly throughout his career. Vidal doesn’t possess the same carefully aged skill-set but rather acts as a midfield hype man bouncing around the centre circle like a wound up racing duck toy.

There is something ugly about Manchester United’s sparkly, expensive, Bastian Schweinsteiger shined 2015/16 Premier League winning machine. Louis van Gaal simply hasn’t finished the job. He’s spent around £75 million on a good valet, new alloys, fresh tyres and a paint job but he’s left a big Wayne Rooney-shaped fluffy dice dangling from the interior mirror.
The England international was given assurance from the Red Devil’s boss that he would be leading the line this season but given the amount of investment already put into the club this summer it seems unlikely they would risk starting their return to stardom on a striker who scored 12 league goals last season.
Yes, he played a handful of games in the middle of midfield but had his performances up front been of a high level then van Gaal wouldn’t have been able to consider moving him.

Morgan Schneiderlin signing for Manchester United is a strange one. The former Southampton midfielder is clearly a very talented footballer and certainly gives Louis van Gaal a midfield presence that was lacking last season. He has made more tackles than any other player in the Premier League over the past three seasons and is a reliable, steady and disciplined £25 million signing. What he hasn’t done is played any Champions League football and that could prove to be a problem as Manchester United aim to regain their place at the top of the football stratosphere.
Maybe it’s the fact that Bastian Schweinsteiger’s move to Old Trafford was announced at roughly the same time as the Frenchman’s transfer and it surreptitiously created a comparison war in which there is only one winner. When the Bayern Munich legend signed for the Red Devils an unforced...

After strong rumours on Friday night that Bastian Schweinsteiger was on the verge of a move to Manchester United to reunite with former Bayern Munich boss Louis Van Gaal, his current club have publicly confirmed that an agreement has been reached between the two clubs.
Bild had reported on Friday night that a deal amounting to €20 million was on the table, and Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now confirmed that the deal is heading towards completion.
That follows swiftly on from Bayern’s new signing Joshua Kimmich letting the cat out of the bag during his press conference when he said he was “disappointed Bastian will leave us this summer.”
Rummenigge admitted that the club’s hand was effectively forced when the German asked to be allowed to take on another challenge before the end of his career.

After Sir Alex Ferguson left the Theatre of Dreams in 2013, there’s no denying that Manchester United have struggled.
David Moyes would be hand-picked to fill the Sir Alex void, although he underwhelmed many and only lasted a season. The legendary Louis Van Gaal has since taken the reigns at Utd, but he isn’t yet yet hitting the heights that many around the club expect.
Many fans and pundits can see the holes that need filling in the Man Utd line-up, and the general consensus is that Utd are suffering for not replacing established stars sooner, particularly at centre-half and in midfield.
One could make the argument that Utd should be looking at the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Andrea Barzagli, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Wesley Sniejder, Sergio Ramos, or Lionel Messi. Sure, all great players, all capable of putting in world class performances. But Utd have to...

Just a few years ago, Bolton Wanderers were earning a point at European heavyweight Bayern Munich in a UEFA Cup tie at the Allianz Arena. The Germans, while not the Guardiola-lite powerhouse of today, still boasted the likes of Oliver Kahn, Franck Ribery, Toni Kroos and Bastian Schweinsteiger, so when Kevin Davies netted a late equaliser to salvage a 2-2 draw, the Trotters were in dreamland.

As far as I'm concerned, the World Cup isn't so much an opportunity to admire stunning feats of athleticism as it is to ogle the sport's assortment of hardbodied players, and I've no doubt spent far more time Google Image Searching shirtless photos of Cristiano Ronaldo than tuning in to the actual matches. So what better way to end the whole thing than with a truly adorable victory selfie by German players Lukas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger (who kind of looks like Kenneth from "Mad Men," incidentally) following today's 1-0 win over Argentina? Toni Kroos, Mario Gotze and Franck Ribery helped Bayern Munich secure the Bundesliga title in record breaking time after seeing off Hertha Berlin 3-1 at the Olympic Stadium.
With an unassailable 77 points, Bayern are now on course to break their 91-point record from last season, after blowing away all competition with seven games to spare.
The Bavarians were denied their 24th league crown last Saturday despite defeating Mainz, with nearest rivals Borussia Dortmund and Schalke also winning their games.

Manchester City will have to cause an unlikely upset and affect a three-goal swing on hosts Bayern Munich to top Champions League Group D.
Both sides have already guaranteed their places in the knockout stages ahead of this clash. Munich need a point to clinch top spot, but boast a fearsome and strong home record.
City lost their only previous visit to the Allianz Arena 2-0 in September 2011 with Mario Gomez bagging a first half brace. Manuel Pellegrini’s team were comprehensively beaten at home by Bayern on matchday two this term with supporting trio Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben all on target.

It may well be something of a cliché, but in this case the old adage rings true. Football moves in cycles.
Following Bayern Munich’s terrifying dismantling of a Barcelona side often vaunted as the world’s best ever club side in the Champions League semi-final and subsequent victory in the final against domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund every man and his dog have been falling over themselves in an effort to become the first to proclaim the demise of Barca and announce the dawning of a new age, the Bayern age.
Bayern’s soon to be departed coach Jupp Heynckes seems to have struck upon the notion that, yes, often diminutive playmakers are experts at implementing a tiki-taka passing style to great effect, but in many cases bigger, more powerful players can be just as, if not more effective playing a passing game complete with a physical advantage.

We tune in every weekend to watch our favourite teams in action whether it be on TV, at the grounds, listening by radio or following the minute-by-minute updates on the laptop or smartphone to watch the ‘best league in the world’. However not everyone agrees with this banner that many of us get carried away with; many people will sit and argue saying that Real Madrid have beaten the potential Champions-elect of the Epl and thus proves that La Liga is stronger than its English counterpart, or the fact that the reigning Champions of England proved to be the whipping-boys of their Champions’ League group. One way of looking at who has the stronger league would be to look at the strongest possible starting XIs that each league could feel and compare to see which is stronger, on paper at least.
Which team is stronger; that led by the record-breaking brilliance of Ronaldo and Messi,...

Another year, another tremendous ask for Arsenal in a Champions League Quarter Final. Rewind 12 months and Arsenal were lumbering home the burden of a 4-0 deficit from the San Siro. Although a marginally different scoreline this time round, the challenge couldn’t be any more magnificent. Stepping into the Allianz 3-1 down on aggregate, shudder.
Bayern Munich. Bayern Munich who are currently on an 11 game unbeaten run. Bayern Munich who haven’t lost a game since October 28th. Bayern Munich who are on a remarkable 16 game win streak in all competitions. Bayern Munich who have played 17 home games in all competitions, scoring 54 goals, conceding a mere 10. Any more emphasis required or we all okay with Bayern’s unimaginable domination at the Allianz Arena?
Injuries to Barcary Sagna, Podolski, and talisman Jack Wilshere has simply increased the gradient of slope Wenger’s boys must claw their way up, if they are to leave Munich alive.

International football can throw up all kinds of non-sporting narratives, from Jesse Owens winning gold at Hitler’s Olympics, Argentina winning the World Cup with the background of the Junta and it’s oppression of the people, USA vs Iran in France ’98, and of course the various rivalries formed off the back of armed conflict – the historical context surrounding England vs Germany or Argentina will be known by most, but this European Championship also brought Poland and Russia together in a tense battle. Germany vs Greece and the economic differences between the two countries is a more present source of friction that normally expected, and it adds an interesting subtext to the match.
Germany won all three group games and apart from a sluggish performance against Portugal in the opening match they have yet to break a sweat. From back to front they look strong, inhabiting typical German efficiency and technical excellence.

The Chelsea Football Club from Fulham, London has won its first ever Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League title in its 107-year history in dramatic fashion over Bayern Munich on Bayern's home turf.
The game was tied 0-0 at the halftime mark and remained that way for much of the second half, until Bayern's Thomas Muller scored the first goal at the 83' mark to put Bayern up 1-0. But late in regulation, Didier Drogba put in a goal for Chelsea and the score remained tied through all of regulation and 30 minutes of extra time.
At that point, it goes to a shoot out - five shots on goal for each club. Through the first four, each club made three and had one saved by its goalie. For shot five, Bayern's Bastian Schweinsteiger stutter-stepped and boinked his shot off the goal post, leaving it to Drogba again. And his shot did not miss,...

The Champions League final is upon us. Chelsea have the chance to become the first team from London to ever win the European Cup and at the same time qualify for next year’s tournament. Roberto Di Matteo can make himself a Stamford Bridge legend, succeeding where Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Carlo Ancelotti and Andre Villas-Boas all failed, with the bonus of finding his temporary status upgraded to permanent.
Both teams have a lot of key men missing through suspension, and injury doubts linger over their replacements, but here are the five men who could cause Chelsea another Champions League final heartbreak.
1. Franck Ribery & 2. Arjen Robben

On a bad night for Manchester Bayern Munich displayed trademark efficiency to defeat City 2-0 at the Allianz Arena. Two Mario Gomez tap-ins gave the German side three points and moved them top of Group A with two wins from their opening two games. Manchester City had two strong penalty appeals turned down but on balance were outclassed by their opponents who could realistically have won by four or five. Manchester United also threw away a two goal lead to draw 3-3 with Fc Basel.
