“If you don’t stop, I will stop the serialization”: George Morikawa Was Supremely Pissed When Hajime no Ippo Anime Didn’t Meet His 1 Condition
Image
The process of turning a manga into an anime is always coupled with risks. First, the creator of said manga themselves should talk to the company, oversee the script, the production quality and then approve the adaptation. Second, the success of the adaptation depends on how fans receive it. If it’s up to their expectations, then the anime will perform decently in terms of revenue. If it exceeds their expectations, then the anime will be remembered beyond one season.

It’s even trickier for production companies to adapt longer shows. Believe it or not, the anime adaptation of the famous boxing series Hajime No Ippo didn’t have a great start. And that’s because the author had serious problems with it.

‘Destruction Babies’ Review
Stars: Yuya Yagira, Nijoro Murakami, Masaki Suda, Nana Komatsu | Written by Tetsuya Mariko, Kôhei Kiyasu | Directed by Tetsuya Marko

When you watch a film you often look for some meaning behind the images you are seeing. Whether it be horror, action, love, or any other genre there is an aim to the story. This is what makes Tetsuya Marko’s Destruction Babies (Disutorakushon beibîzu) so hard to pin down, because it doesn’t care about the rules, it just wants to cause chaos!

The film starts with Taira (Yuya Yagira) deciding to leave town before a coming of age festival. Nobody seems to care but for his younger brother Shota (Nijoro Murakami) who witnesses Taira being attacked by a group of young thugs. Wandering to a nearby city, he starts fighting with anybody in his path, which catches the interest of Yuya Kitahara (Masaki Suda) who soon joins Taira in his need for destruction.

Demeking, The Sea Monster to Come Ashore in October
October is really shaping up DVD-wise. Now we can add a new giant monster movie from Japan that until now I had somehow not heard about. The 2009 daikaiju movie Demekingu is slated for a Us DVD release in October under the Americanized title Demeking, The Sea Monster. Hey, as long as it's better than Kraa! The Sea Monster, I'll be happy.

Not a whole lot of information on this one out there, at least information not in Japanese, which is probably a big reason why the existence of the film somehow eluded a kaijuphile like myself. A plot synopsis on the website Nippon Cinema, where you will also find a rather quizzical trailer that only teases the monster mayhem, describes the plot synopsis as follows:

Set in a dreary port town in 1970, the story revolves around a group of boys led by the older Kameoka (Kohei Kiyasu) who form their own exploration group.
