It is possible that in his search for CNN’s next boss, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav simply checked back through the news network’s archives.
In the otherworldly days of 2020, when Richard Quest was broadcasting in front of a bookcase, the gravel-voiced anchor conducted an exit interview with former New York Times CEO Mark Thompson.
“What is next? People of your age, with your experience … you do not go off to grow petunias and go fishing,” Quest twinkled. Sat in a wood-paneled kitchen in Maine, Thompson chuckled. “I’ll be doing a bit of cooking later,” demurred the 66-year-old Brit, renowned for his culinary skills among friends.
But there was more on his mind than the next meal. “I like big challenges, that should be fairly apparent. That might come in the shape of another big executive job,” he told Quest. “I’m interested in the puzzle of...

K-Pop is facing a “very clear slowdown in growth”. That is why Hybe, the mega company behind BTS and other globally popular acts, is eyeing expansion into the US. This was stated by Hybe chairman Bang Si-Hyuk, to CNN’s Richard Quest in an interview, reports ‘Variety’.
Hybe is seeking to expand its holdings in the South Korean music market by acquiring a large stake in its competitor, Sm.
The genre, which has boomed globally over the past five years, “is not as hot in the market as you might perceive,” Bang said, according to ‘Variety’.
“Globally, it’s not occupying much of the market,” he added. “On the other hand, Latin music and Afrobeat are very rapidly growing. So being where we are, it is more urgent to increase the exposure. … Looking at our export indicators and streaming growth, the slowdown in growth is very clear.”

The funeral of Queen Elizabeth II on Monday, Sep. 19, is shaping up to be a global spectacle. World leaders, including President Biden, will be in attendance, and the world’s media will be there, too.
The queen’s funeral will be the first time such an event has been broadcast on television. In 1952, when Queen Elizabeth ascended to the throne, the funeral procession of King George VI was televised in the U.K., but the funeral itself remained private. Not so this time.
While the BBC will be the official broadcaster of the proceedings, every U.S. TV news organization will be in attendance, flying in many of their top anchors and blowing up their typical programming lineups to carry it live.
Here’s what’s planned from the U.S. TV news networks.

As CNN’s many journalists tried to delve into the ouster of Jeff Zucker, but ran up against one of their biggest professional hurdles: a source who refuses to talk.
Some of WarnerMedia’s best-known on-air personalities pressed the company’s CEO Jason Kilar again and again on Monday, asking him to divulge more details around why Zucker resigned after acknowledging a personal relationship with Allison Gollust, CNN’s chief marketing officer. But Kilar would not.
The WarnerMedia chief faced questions from Don Lemon, Alisyn Camerota, Brian Stelter, Jim Sciutto, Bill Weir, Richard Quest, John Avlon and Victor Blackwell, as well as longtime producer Jim Murphy, many of them pressing him for more information about whether the parent company felt Zucker was given a harsher punishment than was necessary; about whether WarnerMedia was negotiating with Chris Cuomo, fired by Zucker last year, over severance; and whether the looming merger of...

CNN will bring Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen together for the fourth year in a row for “CNN New Year’s Eve,” where the two hosts will undoubtedly fill the night reflecting on the insane year that was 2020. When Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen try to show CNN viewers the sights and sounds of New Year’s Eve in Times Square this year, they will face one of their biggest challenges: There won’t be any.
The throngs of people who come to see the fabled ball drop in what is billed as New York’s “Crossroads of the World” won’t be in attendance, due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic. For Cooper and Cohen, however, the show must go on.
People at home will want to watch and ring out a terrible year, says Cooper. “We want it to be a New Year’s Eve without all the mishegoss. You don’t have to have all the sturm and drang. On Wednesday night’s “Ingraham Angle,” Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo suggested CNN programming has become like a series of “reality shows” because three of the network’s on-air talents have tested positive for the coronavirus.
“Laura, the first rule of journalism is, ‘Don’t inject yourself into the story,’ but there seems to be a deliberate attempt to graft a slew of CNN anchors onto this Covid crisis,” Arroyo, a children’s book author, said. “A number of them have contracted the virus and emoted their personal experiences. It almost appears they’ve launched a series of new reality shows. You could call this one, ‘Are You Sicker Than a CNN Anchor?'”
Producers rolled clips of CNN’s Brooke Baldwin, Chris Cuomo and Richard Quest discussing their diagnoses and how the sickness feels, along with Dr. Sanjay Gupta getting an antibody test and Don Lemon crying over Cuomo’s diagnosis.

Last summer, ABC tried running 500 Questions over seven consecutive weeknights. Richard Quest from the UK was the host. The network's brought it back but have replaced the host and have tinkered with the schedule. Will the ratings improve or get worse? Cancelled or renewed for season three? Stay tuned.
500 Questions, certified geniuses try to correctly answer 500 very difficult general knowledge questions -- without answering three in a row incorrectly. Season two is hosted by Dan Harris.
The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- typically around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest.

ABC has renewed game show series “500 Questions” for a second season, the network announced Thursday. The series from executive producers Mark Burnett and Mike Darnell will return in 2016. The first season aired in May as a multi-night primetime event. “When we created ‘500 Questions,’ our hope was to bring the event game show back to primetime,” Darnell said in a statement. “Thanks to ABC, we had a great summer run and achieved that goal. We are excited that the show is coming back for a second season.” Also read: '500 Questions': How Host Richard Quest Almost Missed Out on the Game.

Last night, ABC wrapped up the first season of 500 Questions, their new primetime game show. How did it do in the ratings? Is it a slam-dunk to be renewed for a second season or, will it certainly be cancelled instead?
Hosted by Richard Quest, 500 Questions lets some adult geniuses try to answer 500 very difficult general knowledge questions and win lots of cash -- without answering three in a row incorrectly.
Airing over the course of seven evenings, the series debuted on May 20th to a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 5.058 million viewers. It wasn't a great start, even for a summer series.
The numbers dropped over the seven episodes but didn't dip below four million. They averaged a 1.04 demo rating with 4.79 million.
Looking at the numbers, there's really no reason...

Had “500 Questions” host Richard Quest not taken a second look at a vague email, he likely would not have been hosting the week-long game show event that kickstarted ABC’s summer slate. The email asked him for his agent’s information. Since he does not have one, however, he let it marinate in his inbox for a few days before realizing that producer “Warner Horizon” is a corporate cousin of his homebase at CNN. He fired off a response to fulfill a corporate duty, and inadvertently set in motion the path that led him to the Adam-and-Adam of 21st century primetime,...

It's been quite awhile since ABC has had a game show that's a hit in the ratings. Could 500 Questions become a phenomenon like Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? was 15 years ago? I am a game show zealot. I believe in the umber glow of Chuck Woolery and the sneering capabilities of Paul Lynde. I'm also a rabid fan of trivia; I was on "Jeopardy!" a couple weeks ago and Gsn's "The Chase" before that. Every time network TV rolls out a new primetime trivia-based game show, I'm listening and hopeful and there -- and I have three spring-loaded requests: 1) Please, Jesus, anything but more "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?"-type lighting; 2) Good lord, no more multiple choice questions; 3) Make me love you, new show. I want to love you. Embrace me, you child. Last year we got the Ryan Seacrest-hosted "Million Second Quiz," a multiple-choice bonanza with "Millionaire" lighting that was tedious and unchallenging (read: not lovable). You can understand my devastation there. "500 Questions" is this year's new primetime trivia attempt. Hosted by CNN journalist Richard Quest, "500 Questions" airs...

CNN’s Richard Quest came out in a rather George Michael-way back in 2008. But since then he’s discovered all his fears about being open about his orientation were misplaced, and the amount of energy he’s saved by not having to hide who he is has made his life so much easier to live. One of the interesting points that CNN anchor Erin Burnett makes in the clip below is something that the homophobes never understand – a huge amount of daily conversation at work revolves around one’s personal life – dating, dinner, kids, schools. It’s woven into everything. And having to hide that much of yourself is exhausting.
