- In 2005, finished 3rd in Kentucky Derby; won the Preakness and Belmont stakes.
- In the Preakness Stakes on 21 May 2005, at the top of the homestretch, one of his front hoofs clipped the rear hoof of another horse, causing Alex to stumble badly. He regained his footing and won the race by 4¾ lengths. This performance by "Alex the Great" was ranked #12 in TV Guide's list of the "25 Most Awesome Sports Moments (of the last 15 years)".
