Five-time Emmy nominee Noah Wyle, no stranger to the world of medical dramas after 200+ episodes of ER, is confirmed to star and executive produce The Pitt. Max has given the medical drama a straight-to-series order, with season one expected to consist of 15 episodes.
Max’s announcement describes the series as a “realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.”
The series is an ER reunion of sorts, with Emmy nominee R. Scott Gemmill writing, executive producing, and guiding the series as showrunner. Additional executive producers include Emmy winner John Wells, Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan, and Michael Hissrich.

It’s a Sunday morning in July. The doors to the dining room of a private home in West Los Angeles are swung wide open so that the 30 or so women sitting at folding banquet tables and on couches can take in some fresh air. Some crowd around the kitchen, where open boxes of donuts and bagels and trays of frittatas are out for a self-serve buffet. There’s a strawberry pie in the mix, for good measure, and plenty of coffee. Welcome to the Asian Women Writers Brunch.

A practicing doctor, Hsu started writing three years ago after she says she grew tired of seeing her favorite Asian American TV characters being killed off, like Susie Chang (Tina Huang) on “Rizzoli & Isles” and Glen Rhee (Steven Yeun) on “The Walking Dead.”

“The Good Doctor” is one of the few shows that puts an autistic character front and center. But the hit Sony TV-ABC series, which returns for its second season on Sept. 24, has another distinction. One of the writers, David Renaud, is a “good doctor” himself off-screen — and uses a wheelchair in daily life.
Canadian-born Renaud, who goes by “Doc” in the writers room, went to medical school to find a cure for paralysis after a motorcycle accident left him paralyzed at 19.
“When I went to medical school, the campus was not even accessible. I can’t tell you how many times I had to go through kitchens or even be carried up stairs to go to class,” Renaud tells Variety.
Now married with two children, Renaud has transitioned into a career in writing, working previously on “Blood & Oil” and Jason Katims’ “Pure Genius,” which Renaud recalls as a...

It is signed by 95 members of both WGA West and WGA East.
