NEW YORK -- After five years of steadily increasing ratings and a new attitude on Madison Avenue, NASCAR zoomed to a big payoff with a five-network, eight-year rights deal worth at least $4 billion -- 40% more than the six-year deal that will conclude in 2006. The Charlotte, N.C.-based racing organization said Wednesday that it has picked incumbents Fox Sports, Speed Channel and TNT as well as welcoming back ESPN/ABC Sports to a rights package that includes the Busch Series. Terms of the deal weren't announced, but it was believed to be upward of $4 billion, beginning with the Daytona 500 in 2007 and running through 2014. "We couldn't be positioned more or, rather, better than with this arrangement," NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France said.
