Lionsgate’s YA sci-fi adventure Chaos Walking will be released in theaters nationwide and in IMAX on March 5, 2021, a push-back from the previous Jan. 22 date. The move comes as distributors begin to adjust the Q1 calendar in response to the ongoing pandemic, which they are hoping quells by spring given the good news about the vaccine.
The $100M Tom Holland-Daisy Ridley feature has been delayed numerous times, one of its big delays due to $15M reshoots in mid-2018. However, Ridley’s schedule on the Star Wars movies and Holland’s Spider-Man and Avengers pushed those reshoots. In May 2019 it was reported that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was helping out with those reshoots in Atlanta while Liman remained on board. The feature was originally dated to open on March 1, 2019.

“Chaos Walking,” a sci-fi adventure starring Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley, has delayed its big-screen debut.
The Lionsgate film, which has already been postponed several times, will premiere in theaters on March 5. It was initially scheduled to release on March 1, 2019, before it was pushed to Jan. 22, 2021, to accommodate reshoots.
Doug Liman directed the movie, which is based on the book “The Knife of Never Letting Go” by Pattrick Ness, who wrote the screenplay with Christopher Ford.
“Chaos Walking,” set in the not-so-distant future, follows Todd Hewitt (Holland) as he discovers Viola, a girl (Ridley) who mysteriously crash lands on his planet. The entire area, curiously, is completely void of women, while the men are affected by “the Noise” — a force that puts all their thoughts on display. As Todd promises to protect Viola from harm, he uncovers his inner abilities and discovers his planet’s dark secrets. The cast also includes Nick Jonas,...

As promised during the Lionsgate earnings call on Thursday, Lionsgate has set a release date for their long-awaited sci-fi Daisy Ridley-Tom Holland movie Chaos Walking which is the post-mlk weekend frame of January 22, 2021. There are no wide entries scheduled on that date.
The pic will follow in the wake of Guy Ritchie’s Jason Statham thriller Cash Truck, which debuts over Mlk weekend.
This is the $100M pic from director Doug Liman that is seen as a big bet for Lionsgate to regain its footing in the Ya space it once owned with The Hunger Games. It was determined in mid-2018 that Chaos Walking needed an estimated $15M of reshoots, but Ridley’s schedule on the Star Wars movies and Holland’s Spider-Man and Avengers pushed those reshoots. Last May it was reported that Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez was helping out with those reshoots in Atlanta while Liman remained on board.

British actor, Lily James delivered a masterclass in charm and good humor at a seminar on Sunday at the International Film Festival and Awards Macao.
Questioned on stage by one of the festival’s senior programmers, James brightly chatted her way through eight years of a screen career that has taken her from “Downton Abbey” to “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” via “Cinderella” and “Baby Driver.”
Although James was born into a family of actors and musicians, and says she got the performing bug very young, she told the Macao audience early on: “When I look at ‘Cinderella’ I feel like a little baby.”
James said that her first loves were music and singing, not acting. But going to London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama put her firmly on course for the stage. “It was classical theatrical training, they didn’t do much screen training (in those days),” she said.

Amid the chaos that was 2018, the show business industry lost some major players. There were icons of the big screen (Burt Reynolds) and TV, along with such legends as Marvel hero Stan Lee, sportscaster Keith Jackson and singer Aretha Franklin, to name just a few of the year’s high-profile passings.
Hollywood also lost groundbreaking producers, unforgettable writers, and executives.
Familiar actors including Joseph Campanella, Sondra Locke, Tab Hunter, John Mahoney, Charlotte Rae, Harry Anderson, Jerry Van Dyke, David Ogden Stiers, Verne Troyer and R. Lee Ermey also left us this year.
We also said goodbye to such influential folks including physicist Stephen Hawking, SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg, editor Anne V. Coates, Bambi animator Don Lusk, gossip columnist Liz Smith, Blockbuster founder Wayne Huzienga,...

By now everyone knows of the troubled production history of Solo: A Star Wars Story, which saw its directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord replaced halfway through the shoot by veteran Ron Howard. It supposedly was due to “creative differences,” but whatever happened in bringing the origin story of Han Solo to the screen doesn’t matter much once you consider the end product.
The film delivers a rip-roaring summer entertainment and perhaps the key entry in this long-standing series to truly deliver the equivalent of a Western space opera. This is a cowboy movie if ever there was one, but it’s more attuned to Maverick than something darker like Unforgiven. Whatever Howard did in order to keep this on track, it all works nicely and has the benefit of a smart script from Star Wars vet Lawrence Kasdan and son, Jonathan Kasdan.

There were no (active) Jedis, but stars nonetheless showed up in full force for the world premiere of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” on Thursday night at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
The second in the “Star Wars” anthology series, “Solo” is the origin story for one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, Han Solo. Portrayed in previous films by Harrison Ford, the role now belongs to Alden Ehrenreich, who said he was elated to have had the 75-year-old actor’s approval.
“It was very cool (meeting him),” Ehrenreich said on the red carpet. “I didn’t know what to expect. He was the warmest, sweetest, most supportive. It was really great to get his blessing going into doing the film.”

The only major studio tentpole in official selection at next month’s Cannes Film Festival, Solo: A Star Wars Story is also bound to be the Riviera event’s hottest ticket. Disney today dropped another look at the Ron Howard-directed origins story that traces the beginnings of smuggler, ace pilot and charming scoundrel, Han Solo. Alden Ehrenreich plays Han, who in the “Crew” clip above meets Wookie Chewbacca for the first time.
Deadline broke the news earlier this month that the movie will world premiere in Cannes. It’s got an out of competition Special Screening and will bow at the Palais before it begins global release on May 23 overseas and May 25 domestically. The major studios have scaled back somewhat on showy — and pricey — Cannes premieres in recent years, but the stars aligned timing-wise on this one which should give a nice jolt to the proceedings.

“I have a really good feeling about this,” says Alden Ehrenreich as the titular space smuggler in the newest trailer for Solo: A Star Wars Story. The new look at the Star Wars spin-off comes in the wake of the announcement that it will make its global premiere at Cannes on May 25 — news that Deadline broke last week.
As opposed to the first teaser, the new trailer gives us more to chew on when it comes to the story. Of course, it gives us the space swag of Han Solo in the early days of his smuggling career, but it also gives us more of the other characters played by Emilia Clarke, Woody Harrelson, Paul Bettany, Thandie Newton, and, of course, Donald Glover who plays fan-favorite Lando Calrissian.

The road for ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story‘ has been long and rocky, but things seem to have gotten a little bit clearer. If you’ve been wondering when the trailer for ‘Solo‘ would finally drop, we have great news for you–it’s coming very, very soon. Both Lucasfilm and Disney have been notoriously tight-lipped about the prequel origin film about everyone’s favorite galactic smuggler, and although we have yet to see a frame of footage from the film itself. Well, that is about to change in a little less than two weeks, because Age of the Nerd has exclusively learned that the first trailer for ‘Solo‘ will appear during this year’s super bowl.
With Sunday’s big game right around the corner, it seems that Disney is hoping to debut our first look at the film on the national stage with a TV spot that lands around roughly the 45-second mark.

The Producers Guild Awards anointed “The Shape of Water” as its Best Picture, the same result as last week’s Critics’ Choice Awards. Guillermo del Toro’s “fairy tale for troubled times” was previously the most-nominated Golden Globes and BAFTA Awards feature, giving Fox Searchlight reason to feel hopeful in ahead of January 23 Oscar nominations.
