Drummer Jay Weinberg revealed on Sunday (November 19th) that he underwent surgery on both his hip and femur this past Tuesday (November 14th). The stickman insisted that the medical procedures were long planned, and not related to his firing from Slipknot earlier this month.
Weinberg shared a photo of himself on crutches via Instagram, explaining that he had scheduled the surgery knowing that he had an extensive break in his touring schedule, even had he remained with Slipknot. The band’s next show is scheduled for April at Las Vegas’ Sick New World festival.
His full post reads as follows:
“This Tuesday, after three years of careful planning, I underwent an outpatient procedure to repair the torn labrum of my left hip and shave down a misshapen part of my femur — a condition that never impacted my drumming in any way, but I’ve wanted to take care of during...

Jay Weinberg received a tremendous amount of support from fellow musicians upon being let go from Slipknot, but not from his former Against Me! bandmate Laura Jane Grace. The singer-guitarist mocked the drummer’s ouster from the masked metal band, even calling him a “little bitch boy.”
The cantankerous relationship between Grace and Weinberg dates back to the drummer’s stint in Against Me! and eventual departure from the punk band. Weinberg was a member of Against Me! from 2010 to 2012, and when he joined Slipknot in 2014, Grace tweeted, “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag.”
In another series of tweets at that time, Grace wrote, “We once had a drummer who sprained his ankle and wanted our tour manager to call 911 and have an ambulance come for him #entitlement. When our tour manager said no the drummers Daddy called him and scolded him saying the drummer was a ‘star’ and...

Laura Jane Grace makes an appeal to your ears — the two most important holes in your head, at least for her purposes — with the short-and-giddy title track of her upcoming album, Hole in My Head. “You can try to outrun all the pain you come from,” she sings over charging, quarter-note punk-rock chord changes. “That would be a real mistake … I need a hole in my head.” The song follows “Dysphoria Hoodie,” the first single off the album, which will come out Feb. 16.

Laura Jane Grace has announced her second full-length studio album, Hole in My Head, which is due for release on February 16th, 2024 via Polyvinyl Record Co. She’s also shared the album’s title track as a single, and unveiled a string of new tour dates for 2024.
Grace’s first collection of songs since 2021’s At War with the Silverfish, Hole in My Head will feature the single “Dysphoria Hoodie,” which first debuted this past October. Written 30 years removed from the days when her band Against Me! was first beginning, the album captures the sense of reflection that she’s been leaning into recently.
The single “Hole in My Head” conveys this, pairing a stirring, youthful melody with lyrics bearing the wisdom of Grace’s years. “You can try to outrun all the pain you come from/ That would be a real mistake” she sings on the bridge, building into...

In his home office in Nashville, Cidny Bullens glances at a photo perched behind him: a young, pouty-faced 28-year-old in a Superman T-shirt, cradling an electric guitar. “I look at me as a different person,” says Bullens, who now sports short hair and a wisp of a mustache. “I don’t say, ‘Oh, that’s a great picture.’ It’s like an entity, you know.”

Laura Jane Grace is back with the new song “Dysphoria Hoodie,” as well as details of a brief run of tour dates slated for the end of 2023 and beginning of 2024. Check out the single and tour itinerary below.
A transgender folk song of sorts, “Dysphoria Hoodie” finds Grace, alone with an acoustic guitar, saluting her favorite security blanket hoodie. “This is a song about gender dysphoria and your favourite hooded sweatshirt,” the artist shared in a statement.
“Any trans person out there knows what a dysphoria hoodie is — it’s the hoodie you wear when feeling low and dysphoric and you don’t want the world reading your gender,” she continued. “Hide your body shape, hide your head, disappear as much as you can. The Twittersphere is having a fierce debate over Meg White’s drumming.
It all began when former political reporter Lachlan Markay wrote a divisive tweet about the former White Stripes drummer, stating, “The tragedy of the White Strips is how great they would have been with a half decent drummer. Yeah yeah I’ve heard all the ‘but it’s a carefully crafted sound mannnn!’ takes. I’m sorry Meg White was terrible and no band is better for having shitty percussion.”

Cursive frontman Tim Kasher will release a new solo album, Middling Age, on April 15 via 15 Passenger Records. The musician has previewed the album with lead single “I Don’t Think About You,” which features vocals from Cursive’s Megan Siebe.
The song, which arrived along with a self-directed music video, sees Kasher reflecting on a lost love.
“‘I Don’t Think About You’ is a song that came together fairly quickly for me as I absentmindedly hummed the title over and over again whilst working out the chords,” Kasher said in a statement.

Thanks to the series of covers she’s done on The Tonight Show, iHeartRadio Festival, BBC Radio 1 lounge, and every other remote program she’s appeared on over the last couple of months, Cyrus has repeatedly garnered attention in the best way possible. In 2010, I went to see Peter Wolf play an intimate set at Portland, Maine’s Port City Music Hall. At the time, I’d gotten deep into Wolf’s catalog after hearing J. Geils Band’s Houseparty album, and the frontman delivered, playing a wild set full of hits like “Homework” and “Love Stinks.” During “Must of Got Lost,” Wolf dropped to his knees and delivered the classic spoken-word intro. After the show, my friend Jamie and I wound up in Wolf’s dressing room, listening to the disheveled legend hold court with fans,...

Music has long been intertwined with the spirit of Pride and pro-lgbtq+ movements, from obvious selections like Diana Ross’ disco banger “I’m Coming Out” to the confrontational queercore of groups like Pansy Division. During Pride month, the music is usually a mix of party and protest, combining the sensual pleasures of classic disco and dance music with potent messages of individuality, resilience, and hope. Even though Pride festivals aren’t happening as planned this year, there’s nothing to stop us from connecting ourselves to that history. In this...

Saturday Night Live is still managing to get its long-running brand of sketch comedy out into the world each week, despite the coronavirus pandemic and near-global lockdown which makes saying things like “live from New York…it’s Saturday Night” seem impractical, if not downright improbable. But the show has made #SNLAtHome into a real thing during lockdown, complete with sketches, celebrity guests, and musical guests.
This week, the guest was Miley Cyrus, who performed an eerie and soulful rendition of Pink Floyd classic “Wish You Were Here.” Cyrus performed “Wish You Were Here” by firelight from her backyard, with a twelve-string guitar player as her lone accompaniment. Cyrus’ choice of guitarist appears to have been no accident with Andrew Watt, a guitarist, Grammy winning producer, and songwriter, recently recovered from Covid-19 joining her. Here, the song takes on new meaning in the days of social distancing, quarantine, and self-isolation.

Against Me! have canceled their co-headlining tour with Baroness, scheduled to take place in May.
The announcement follows the band’s previous cancellation of their 2020 spring tour, originally slated to conclude a month before the co-headlining trek. Refunds are available at point of purchase.
“I hope that it’s apparent that this is absolutely not at all what any of us want, and if we had any real choice in the matter we would for sure be out on the road this May,” frontwoman Laura Jane Grace said in a statement.

As the world fights a pandemic, we reached out to some of our favorite artists with a few questions about these unprecedented times. Here’s what Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! had to say via email about her current quarantine.
What are you doing with your unexpected time at home?
For the past 20 days — since we got home from the tour we had to cancel — I have been completely isolated and alone here in Chicago, dropping acid, smoking grass, and watching TV news. I’ve run a couple of...

There’s no perfect way to describe the gloriously gloomy music of Rowland S. Howard, the slender guitar slinger whose dusky disposition was deeply imprinted onto the music of his bands — the Birthday Party, Crime and the City Solution, and These Immortal Souls —and his own solo recordings.
“The color of Rowland Howard’s music is a deep-purple bruise,” says Lydia Lunch, who collaborated with Howard several times.
“His guitar playing was like the stab of a switchblade,” says Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace, one of the many musicians he inspired.

Coachella is on hold for six months. Concert giants Live Nation and Aeg are pausing all tours. As festivals, shows, and other music events flounder due to the global coronavirus outbreak, many in the music business are scrambling for answers from tour insurance — only to find that insurers don’t want to be on the hook for payouts, either.
The Covid-19 outbreak, which the World Health Organization declared a pandemic on Wednesday, is not being covered by most major music insurance companies, according to agencies, attorneys, and artist business managers contacted by Rolling Stone.

The abrupt reshuffling of major events like Coachella, SXSW, and Pearl Jam and Madonna’s shows due to coronavirus is already devastating to the live music industry — but by some predictions, we’re only seeing the start of the chaos.
Coronavirus-related event cancellations seem to be barreling in by the hour, and the $26 billion global live events industry is watching with bated breath. Several sources across the booking, management, and venues sectors either declined to comment to Rolling Stone on the subject because of the uncertainty around the matter, or...

Laura Jane Grace is parked outside her daughter’s school after a parent-teacher meeting when Rolling Stone calls to talk about her decade. She’s just announced a 2020 tour and teased a new Against Me! album and she’s hopped up on enthusiasm, coffee and hope for the future of her...

Laura Jane Grace and the Devouring Mothers pay homage to Wayne’s World while taking a giant dump on the city of Chicago — as a means of grappling with a break-up — in the hilarious new video for their song, “I Hate Chicago.”
Directed by Hannah Welever, the clip reimagines Wayne’s World as “Jane’s World” and stars Abby Pierce and Christine Vrem-Ydstie as Jane and Grace, the respective stand-ins for Wayne and Garth. The video is packed with plenty of references, including a head bang-heavy ride in the Mirthmobile...
