Update: Director Richard Stanley (Color Out of Space) who was the subject of allegations of abuse by an ex-partner, has filed criminal complaints in France in response.
“My attorney has filed criminal complaints of Libel and Harassment on my behalf, in France, against Tracy Robertson, aka ‘Scarlett Amaris’, a screenwriter and fantasist who launched a vicious attack on my career and reputation on March 16, 2021,” Stanley said.
Stanley called the accusations “lies and damnable lies, and I have the witnesses and evidence to fully discredit Tracy’s story as a dark fairytale that bears no relationship to the truth.”
He added that he was confident in the outcome of his legal proceeding, and said his reputation would be vindicated by the evidence he would present.
“In the meantime,” he concluded, “I wish to thank all those who have stood by me through this difficult period.”

Well holy cow, this is some great news to read today. ScreenDaily is reporting that our friends at One Eyed Films (Vampus Horror Tales) have signed remake deals for two new Coffin Joe films. One will be made in the U.S. with those fine lads at SpectreVision but it's the one that is happening in Mexico that has me particularly chuffed to learn about. Coffin Joe, the horror character created by late Brazilian filmmaker Jose Mojica Marins, is to return to screens through two separate film projects – one English-langugage from the US, the other Spanish-language from Mexico. SpectreVision, the US genre production outfit founded by Elijah Wood with directors Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller, has signed an option for an...

I consider myself to be a big fan of Hp Lovecraft’s work. However, much like the band “Guided by Voices” I tend to subconsciously filter out an awful lot of quite poor output, and just remember the good bits.
Lovecraft wrote some great horror, but for the most part it is the greater Lovecraftian universe that the writer set up, that has the most interesting part of his legacy for me. A lot of his writing is, not the greatest and people are right to note the racism and fear that runs right through his works. I always get the sense that Lovecraft was quite a pathetic, pitiable, frightened man, eating his tinned green beans cold and being frightened...

Nicolas Cage is certainly building on his resume of genre-driven films with the new sci-fi horror pic Color Out of Space, which opens in limited release January 24. The film marks the first feature from celebrated cult filmmaker Richard Stanley since Hardware.
Based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft, the film follows Nathan Gardner (Cage) and his family after a meteorite lands in the front yard of their farm. The film, which Stanley co-wrote with Scarlett Amaris also stars Joely Richardson, Madeleine Arthur, Brendan Meyer, Julian Hilliard, Elliot Knight, Q’orianka Kilcher and Tommy Chong.
The U.S. rights to the film were acquired by Rlje Films ahead of its Midnight Madness premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival this past September. Based on the trailer (which you can watch below), the film is very much in the same vein of Mandy a fever dream of a thriller that also starred Cage. Like Mandy, the film is produced by Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision and Xyz films. Mandy banked a worldwide gross of $1,335,484.
Color Out of Space is produced by SpectreVision’s Daniel Noah, Josh C. Waller, Lisa Whalen and Elijah Wood. Executive producers are Timur Bekbosunov, Johnny Chang, Emma Lee and Peter Wong for Ace Pictures, which is also financing. Stacy Jorgensen serves as executive producer for SpectreVision.

The film is set to open in 75 theaters with an additional 150 one-night-only eventized screenings at Regal, Drafthouse, AMC, Landmark and various independent chains.
Todd Robinson’s all-star Vietnam drama The Last Full Measure starring Sebastian Stan, Christopher Plummer and William Hurt will also debut this we The film follows the true story of Vietnam War hero William H. Pitsenbarger (Jeremy Irvine), a U.S. Air Force Pararescuemen medic who personally saved over 60 men in the Army’s 1st Infantry Division during a devastating 1966 battle, losing his own life in the process.
Fast forward 32 years later and Pentagon staffer Scott Huffman (Stan) is tasked with investigating a Congressional Medal of Honor request for Pitsenbarger made by his best friend and partner on the mission (Hurt) and his parents (Plummer and Diane Ladd). Scott seeks out the testimony of Army veterans who witnessed Pitsenbarger’s heroic rescues He talks to Takoda (Samuel L. Jackson), Burr (Peter Fonda) and Mott (Ed Harris), but as he more about Pitsenbarger’s courageous acts, he uncovers a high-level conspiracy behind the decades-long denial of the medal, prompting him to put his own career on the line to seek justice for the fallen airman. Also opening this weekend is the Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari-directed Panga, which is inspired by the life of a national level Kabaddi player from India. The film starring Kangana Ranaut, Jassie Gill, Richa Chadda, Neena Gupta and Yagya Bhasin is set to open globally on January 24 with over 100 theaters across North America.
The female-fronted pic is very much a “second act” type of story that sheds light on the ups and downs of a middle-class Indian woman who is a forgotten world champion of the popular South Asian sport of Kabaddi. She looks to give a new meaning to her existing role as a wife and mother and makes the choice to return to the sport and in turn, challenges age stereotypes and a new generation complexities. In turn, she creates an upheaval in her life as she is torn between family responsibility and love for the sport.
Detective Chinatown 3 will also debut this weekend and will continue the wildly successful action-comedy buddy franchise starring Baiqiang Wang and Haoran Liu. The third installment finds detectives Tang Ren and Qin Feng in Tokyo as they investigate a crime alongside Noda Hiroshi (Satoshi Tsumabuki). As a result, a hilarious battle of detectives ensue. With Chen Sicheng returning to the director’s chair, the film is one of the biggest U.S. releases of a Chinese-language film. The first installment debuted in 2015 and earned $125,112,232 in China and $474,252 stateside while the 2018 sequel earned a mind-boggling $541,406,438 at the Chinese box office and $1,983,984 domestically.

Rlje Films has picked up U.S. rights to Richard Stanley’s horror/sci-fi feature Color Out of Space for low-to-mid seven figures ahead of pic’s Tiff Midnight Madness Saturday night world premiere. The movie, which is also produced by Elijah Wood’s SpectreVision and Xyz films, reps another collaboration between the three companies on another Cage vehicle, last year’s horror pic Mandy being the previous title.
The movie, which stars Nicolas Cage and Joely Richardson, is based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft. We’ve got a new photo to share with you for Nicolas Cage’s upcoming film Color Out of Space. The new photo just offers us a different glimpse at Cage spending a lovely night with his wife. I imagine this is the calm before the storm that awaits him.
This story for the film is set in the present day and it centers on the Gardners, “a family who moves to a remote New England farmstead to escape the hustle of the 21st century. They are busy adapting to their new life when a meteorite crashes into their front yard. It seems to melt into the earth, infecting both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly color, and to the family’s horror they discover the alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches including them.”

One film that I’ve been very interested in seeing is Nicholas Cage’s Color Out of Space. The film is based on the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name, and it was directed by Richard Stanley.
The film is set to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of their Midnight Madness lineup, and they also released an image giving us our first look at the film. The image features Cage standing next to a station wagon looking at some interesting visual changes taking place in front of him.

Elijah Wood’s acting career has undergone a curious evolution in the years since the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy brought him to prominence. In tandem with the launch of production company SpectreVision, Wood has embraced his genre sensibilities with a range of horror, fantasy, and thriller projects made well beyond the studio arena.
The latest example, “Come to Daddy,” is the paragon of Wood’s sensibilities: The directorial debut of longtime genre producer Ant Timpson is the eerie look at a young man visiting his estranged father at a remote countryside home, where he discovers his hard-drinking pop might not be telling the full truth. From there, “Come to Daddy” careens into a bloody, slapstick thrill ride, equal parts “Evil Dead” and early Peter Jackson.
Wood met Timpson years ago on the genre festival circuit, and the pair worked together as co-producers on the wacky Sundance midnight sensation “The Greasy Strangler.

On screen, the revenge film Mandy is a ferocious fever-dream, but off screen it has been a game-changing success story for SpectreVision, the production company founded by Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh C. Waller. The film has won over critics and a growing fan following since its January premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and Wood now tells Deadline his company is sizing up an Oscar campaign for star Nicolas Cage.
“This is absolutely the most successful film and best-reviewed film we’ve made since we started this company eight years ago to focus on genre and horror films and to push the boundaries of what one considers those things to be,” said Wood, best known as the actor who portrayed the intrepid hobbit Frodo Baggins in the Lord of the Rings films.

Nicolas Cage did his time with superhero movies. In the late nineties, he was attached to play the Man of Steel in “Superman Lives,” an unrealized project set to be directed by Tim Burton. Over the years, the potential of that collaboration gained mythological status, with photos of Cage in the iconic red-and-blue outfit making the rounds online. Cage eventually did get the chance to play a superhero, albeit a very different one, in two “Ghost Rider” movies — but the Superman franchise moved on without him.
This week, as rumors circulated that Warner Bros. and DC would be dropping Henry Cavill from the role as the studio refocused its priorities on a Supergirl movie, hordes of Cage fans mobilized to remind the world of the potential the actor showed decades ago. However, Cage has moved in a different direction over the years, epitomized by the movie opening this week.

As scary as a cabin in the woods can be, one of the most disturbing backdrops for a film can be the college culture, where horrors that are all too real sometimes take place. Such is the case in Natalie Leite’s M.F.A., which made its world premiere at the SXSW Film Festival (read Heather's review here) and has now been acquired for Us distribution by Dark Sky Films.

Even though Nicholas Cage has made some really dubious choices in projects to appear in, he has also made a fair few cracking ones too. Confirmation has just come through that Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action thriller from Beyond the Black Rainbow helmer, Panos Cosmatos.
The new project, which is due to start filming this summer in Belgium is set in the primal wilderness of 1983, where Red Miller, a broken and haunted man hunts an unhinged religious sect who slaughtered the love of his life and is being described as “Heavy Metal Story of Demon Bikers”
“Panos is one of the most vital young filmmakers alive, a pop-culture Kubrick in the making,” said Noah, SpectreVision’s Head of Development. “Nicolas Cage is a veritable god to those of us who grew up watching his classic performances. Bringing these two together for this surrealist, heavy-metal-soaked...
