Less than a year after it was first announced, Universal has revealed that M3GAN spinoff film SOULM8TE has a new release date. Instead of releasing on January 2, 2026 as was originally planned, the film will now come out a week later, on January 9, 2026, via Bloody Disgusting.

SOULM8TE is being directed by Kate Dolan, known for her creepy Irish psychological horror film You Are Not My Mother. Dolan is also penning the script, based on a story by horror icon James Wan, Ingrid Bisu, and Rafael Jordan. Wan will also produce under his Atomic Monster alongside frequent collaborator Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions.

Described as a sci-fi erotic thriller, SOULM8TE is about a man who purchases an android to use as a coping mechanism after his wife passes away. The plot isn't exactly an original one, as we've seen similar in movies like this year's Companion, Subservience, and even in the series Black Mirror.

After the release of M3GAN 2.0 this summer, this particular franchise universe will expand with a spinoff movie early next year, which now has a brand new release date.

Previously set for January 2, 2026, the M3GAN spinoff movie SOULM8TE will now release in theaters on January 9, 2026 from Blumhouse, Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures.

Lily Sullivan (Evil Dead Rise, Monolith) stars alongside Claudia Doumit (“The Boys”). The spinoff is being billed as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist.”

David Rysdahl also stars in the upcoming SOULM8TE.

Blumhouse is not toying around when it comes to the promotion of M3GAN 2.0. The production company has surprised horror movie fans by making Gerard Johnstone's M3GANavailable in its entirety to watch for free on YouTube ahead of the release of its upcoming sequel this summer — giving those that need a refresher or anyone that hasn't had the pleasure of meeting the murderous robotic star of the critically acclaimed 2022 film the opportunity to get acquainted with the doll before the next installment boots up in theaters.

"Well isn't today your lucky day? Our legal team has let us post the entire M3GAN movie. Enjoy!" the official X/Twitter account for Blumhouse shared in a post (below) that included a YouTube link to the sci-fi horror hit, which has a runtime of over 1 hour 35 minutes.

M3GAN is directed by Gerard Johnstone and written by Akela Cooper, who co-wrote the story with James Wan.

Last night, Blumhouse Productions spent some time in the spotlight during the Universal panel at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas. A major focus of their time on stage was the sequels they have coming out this year – M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on June 27th; The Black Phone 2 follows on October 17th; then Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will help wrap up 2025 with its December 5th release. But they also shared a preview of SOULM8TE, which is “a new movie in the M3GAN universe” that is set to reach theatres on January 2, 2026.

M3GAN spinoff SOULM8TE revealed its steamy first footage at CinemaCon, courtesy of producers James Wan and James Blum.

The Blumhouse CEO noted that the pair “share a demented sensibility.” Wan noted of the title character in M3GAN, “She kicked open a door to twisted ideas we can explore together. What if we can design a perfect partner for grown-ups?”

Wan then teased the film’s “adult M3GAN,” and joked, “What could possibly go wrong?”

The trailer, which has not yet been publicly shared, featured Lily Sullivan as an AI-powered companion hired by a grieving man (David Rysdahl). As might be expected, the title character takes things a bit too far.

“Tell me you love me,” Sullivan says in the footage. “Nobody will ever know you like I do.” Later, she asks, “Have I been a bad girl?”

When facing off with a female rival, she quips, “Don’t try that girl-power shit with me.

Jason Blum came out on the CinemaCon stage with new producing partner James Wan to introduce his new “M3GAN” sequel and its spinoff, “SOULM8TE.”

“We share a demented sensibility,” Blum said.

“This January, we invite you to meet Sarah, our new soulmate,” Wan added.

In the project’s first trailer screened at the event, a huge box is delivered containing a lifelike attractive adult android Sarah (Lily Sullivan) to a new owner. A series of quick shots ensue, “I love you,” the Soulm8te said.

“Nobody will ever know you like I do,” she added. Sarah attacks the girlfriend of the main character and she says, “Don’t come at me with this girl power s–t.”

Claudia Doumit has booked her next project following her three-season run on The Boys. The actor is set to star in Atomic Monster and Blumhouse's upcoming SOULM8TE, a spinoff of M3GAN.

Deadline reports today that the upcoming SOULM8TE is being billed as a ’90s-style erotic thriller with a “new technological twist,” and it’s coming to theaters on January 2, 2026.

Kate Dolan (You Are Not My Mother) will direct the film.

M3GAN, the hit horror movie from James Wan’s Atomic Monster and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse, is getting a spinoff.

The two companies known for their horror output, are in active development on SOULM8TE, a thriller that expands the M3GAN universe, according to Wan and Blum, who are producing the project.

SOULM8TE is on the fast-track: the project is already dated for a Jan. 2, 2026 release via Universal. That’s a similar berth as M3GAN, which opened Jan. 6, 2023 before going on to dance its way to a $181 million worldwide.

With the American Film Market commencing any day now, we can expect to hear about a plethora of exciting new b-movie titles. Like, for example, two new monster movies being distributed by Titan Global Entertainment: Jurassic Attack and Poseidon Rex.

Are these two creature features bound for Syfy? I do not know for sure, but the pedigree surrounding Jurassic Attack would indicate Syfy is its destination.
