The Equalizer, a violent big-screen version of the 1985 TV series, which re-teamed Washington with his Training Day director Antoine Fuqua, rang up $2.3 million from Thursday through Sunday.
Pro-rata that was well below the Us weekend debut of $US35.1 million, which ranks as the biggest September launch for an R-rated film, eclipsing Jackass: Number Two, which pulled in $29 million in 2006.

This year the Grégoire Melin’s Kinology can do no wrong – they nabbed the best real-estate on the Croisette and reminded us that Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers will surely be much talked about upon release and they’re sprinkled out a little bit everywhere else on the Croisette from the Main Comp with Cosmopolis, the Directors’ Fortnight with opening film from Gondry (The We and the I) and a Special Screening status in the Critics’ Week for Alice Winocour’s debut, Augustine (see pic of actress Soko above).
