New Delhi, July 18 (Ians) Moeen Ali has called Michael Vaughan to take an active role in English cricket’s battle against racism as he opened up publicly for the first time on a controversial tweet from the former captain that suggested the England all-rounder should inquire whether young Muslims are terrorists to enhance societal safety.
In 2017, Adil Ray asked Vaughan on Twitter whether he expected Moeen to go around asking Muslims he didn’t know whether they knew terrorists in between matches. To whichVaughan replied yes, if it helps “our kids’ future and environment become a safer place”.
In a documentary named ‘Is Cricket Racist?’, when Moeen was asked by Ray what he thought of Vaughan’s tweets from 2017, the all-rounder described Vaughan’s views as “very silly and dumb”, while insisting that cricket needs people like him to step up in the fight against racism.
“It was very silly.

Frank Ocean is facing backlash after he was reportedly over an hour late to his Coachella performance.
On Sunday (16 April) evening, the R&b artist was scheduled to make his highly anticipated return to live performances following a nearly six-year break.
However, what was expected to be an eagerly awaited headlining show, quickly dissolved into a “disappointing” production, according to several attendees.
“When it’s an hour past Frank’s performance time, people are starting to leave, and he is nowhere to be found,” one TikTok video read, along with a clip of the desert festival crowd waiting in darkness.
In another popular video on the platform, one festival goer claimed Ocean left them “standing in the cold and waiting” for over an hour and a half.
They listed additional grievances with the “Lost” singer’s set, which they said included “long weird and silent pauses”, obstructed views of the stage,...

Eddie Marsan has shut down an agitated fan who called him a “woke lefty” after he defended Good Morning Britain presenter Adil Ray against racist bullying.
Earlier this month, Ray opened up about the racism he had been subjected to on social media following disparaging comments made about British-Pakistani men by Home Secretary Suella Braverman.
“To see the racist bullying @adilray has been subject to over the last few days, has been heartbreaking, but the way he’s dealt with it, with skill, humour and far superior intelligence has been inspiring,” Marsan tweeted on Sunday (16 April).
The next day, a user responded to The Power star’s post, angrily writing: “I wish you were like the characters you portrayed. Not the woke lefty who tweets what he thinks people want to hear [middle finger emoji].”
Shortly after, Marsan replied: “Have you seen the characters I play?”

Adil Ray has spoken out after receiving “nothing but” racist messages in the wake of Suella Braverman’s comments about “British-Pakistani males”.
Speaking about the government crackdown on child sexual abuse on Sunday (2 April), the home secretary singled out British-Pakistani men as she alluded to grooming cases in Rotherham and Rochdale.
Braverman pointed to a “predominance of certain ethnic groups – and I say British Pakistani males – who hold cultural values totally at odds with British values, who see women in a demeaned and illegitimate way and pursue an outdated and frankly heinous approach in terms of the way they behave”.
Braverman was subsequently accused of “dog whistle” politics, while the Nspcc argued that only considering race could create new “blind spots”.
During a discussion on Good Morning Britain on Thursday (6 April) about the government’s refugee policy, Ray shared his fear that the country was becoming more divided.

It dispels myths about the vaccine as it has emerged in recent days that those from Black and mixed heritage backgrounds are more sceptical of the jab and aren’t getting vaccinated at the same levels.
The video features historian and presenter David Olusoga, Olympian Denise Lewis, “Yesterday” actors Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar, singer Beverley Knight, comedian Romesh Ranganathan and cricketer Moeen Ali, among others.
At 9:56pm on Thursday, U.K. public service broadcasters ITV, Channel 4, Stv, Channel 5 and pay TV operator Sky, will air the video simultaneously. The BBC, which is prohibited from participating in campaigns...

Studiocanal has launched the first trailer for the reimagining of Noël Coward’s classic comedy ‘Blithe Spirit’ featuring Dan Stevens.
The film follows best-selling crime novelist Charles (Dan Stevens) who is struggling with catastrophic writer’s block and a stressful deadline for his first screenplay. His picture-perfect second wife Ruth (Isla Fisher) is doing her best to keep him focussed in the hope of fulfilling her dream of heading to Hollywood. Charles’ desperate search for inspiration leads him to invite Madame Arcati (Judi Dench), a medium recently exposed as a fraud, to perform a séance in their home. They all get more than they bargained for when Arcati accidentally summons the spirit of his deceased first wife: the fiery and jealous Elvira (Leslie Mann) who embarks on a mission to kill Charles so she can spend eternity with him which leads to an increasingly comical and deadly love triangle.

ITV will not be commissioning a second series of Bend It Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha’s lavish period drama Beecham House.
The six-part series, produced by Chadha’s Bend It TV, only managed to pull in an audience of 3.3M in a prestige Sunday night slot. It could not compete with other dramas in the same ITV slot, such as Victoria.
Beecham House will air on PBS in March next year. ITV said Chadha is still hoping to keep the drama going beyond series one through a deal with another international broadcaster.
The drama takes place on the cusp of 19th century in Delhi, following the fortunes of the residents of the titular mansion. It was written by Chadha, Paul Mayeda Berges, Shahrukh Husain and Victor Levin (Mad Men).
The ensemble cast includes Lesley Nicol (Downton Abbey), Gregory Fitoussi, Adil Ray (Citizen Khan), Pallavi Sharda (Lion...

Netflix movies may still be question mark in terms of being allowed in competition at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival in May, but the streaming giant will be present at Cannes Series. The Cannes television festival will mark its second year next month with Netflix going up against rival Amazon in the competition section. The full lineup includes series from Israel, Norway, Spain, and Belgium.
Netflix’s competition entry is the German series “How to Sell Drugs Online Fast,” from writers Philipp Käßbohrer and Matthias Murmann. Amazon is heading to Cannes Series with “The Feed,” a London-set drama created by Channing Powell and based on the novel Nick Clark Windo. “The Feed” stars “Game of Thrones” favorite Michelle Fairley opposite David Thewlis in a story about a piece of technology that allows people to instantly share thoughts and emotions. The tech falls into the wrong hands and becomes a murderous weapon.

The Crystal Maze reaches the end of its celebrity run with a couple of Loose Women, an EastEnder, a Northerner and a class clown…
In the genus of UK gameshow hosts, Richard Ayoade defies sub-categorisation. He’s not a Blood-Drinking Reptilian Overlord (Chris Tarrant, Noel Edmonds, Eamonn Holmes), nor is he Someone Who Would Be Driving A Foxtons Mini If They Weren’t On TV (Patrick Mulhern, Davina McCall, Paddy McGuinness, Vernon Kay). He’s not a Barrymore, a Bowen or a Les Dennis, and neither is he a Grandad Who 100% Killed Someone In The War (William G. Stewart, Des Lynam, Bruce Forsyth).
