Ant-Man may not be getting the same amount of attention right now as The Avengers: Age of Ultron (how many edits can they make with one trailer?), but Marvel is slowly working towards getting the general public familiar with the shrinking superhero. They debuted brief behind the scenes footage of the film during the Marvel: 75 Years, From Pulp to Pop! TV special, a trailer will likely be released in the coming months, and now it.s been announced that readers will get to follow Ant-Man.s exploits next year in prose form with the novel Ant-Man: Natural Enemy. Marvel (via THR) has announced that that Ant-Man: Natural Enemy, written by Jason Starr, will be released on June 3, 2015. The story will focus on Scott Lang, described as a "an ex-con, single parent and part-time superhero," moving to a new city with his daughter, Cassie. This novel follows Marvel.s other recent...

Marvel and Disney are not shy about spinning off products and other items from their movies; both companies are all about the ancillaries. So both are hoping that Ant-Man becomes a big hit, as a tie-in novel called Natural Enemy is on the way.Following in the footsteps of Avengers: Everybody Wants To Rule The World and Rocket Raccoon & Groot: Steal The Galaxy, the novel will expand upon the world explored in Peyton Reed’s film. Crime novelist Jason Starr has been hired to craft a book that finds Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang as an ex-con single father looking to start a fresh life in a new city with his teenage daughter, Cassie.“Whether you’re an Ant-Man fan, or looking to experience a new story featuring the breakout character of 2015, this novel is going to be an exciting thrill ride from cover to cover,” says Marvel in a statement.

The Returning is a new comic book mini-series we’ve been covering, where people who have near-death experiences come back “changed.” In the first issue, we met Beth and saw her life change forever after having a near-death experience. Now on the run, Beth has been searching for answers. Will she like what she finds in the final issue?
“It’s the near future, and some people who have had Near-Death Experiences have come back “changed.” They exhibit extreme behavioral changes, becoming increasingly paranoid and violent, and no one knows why. People who have had Nde’s fall immediately under suspicion, and in some cases, are murdered by justice-seeking vigilantes. It is in this world where Beth, a quiet high school student with a bright future, will learn just how quickly friends and family will turn on her when she has the bad luck of surviving the worst night of her life…...

The Returning #1
Written by Jason Starr
Art by Andrea Mutti
Colors by Vladimir Popov
Letters by Ed Dukeshire
Published by Boom! Studios
The Returning chases the white whale of horror/sci-fi: a fresh re-imagining of the undead. ‘Changers’ have been popping up, the relatively recent dead returning to life. While not noticeably different on the outside, something has changed in these erst-while dead folks, besides not being dead any more. Some of them have been committing heinous acts of violence, totally out of character from their living selves. No one knows why the Changers are coming back, but their actions have infected the populace with fear and mistrust. That’s the familiar state of the world in The Returning #1.
The story begins with Beth Turner returning from the dead in a hospital bed, violently reacting to her second chance at life while staff argues wether or not she’d be better off dead,...

Last month, Boom! Studios announced The Returning, a new comic book series where people who have near-death experiences come back “changed.” We recently gave you an exclusive preview and interview with Jason Starr, and we’re back with a new set of preview pages:

The Returning revolves around people who come back changed after near-death experiences or Nde’s. What was the inspiration behind this concept and how long have you been developing this story?
Jason Starr: Andrea Mutti and I wanted to work together and we kicked around ideas for a long time and ultimately refined the idea for “The Returning.” Yes, it’s about Nde’s and people who come back changed, but ultimately it’s a much bigger story,...

Happy Halloween, comic book lovers! Although the only truly significant thing about this Halloween column is that I’ll be covering two weeks worth of comics instead of just one, after missing last Wednesday.
Also, we must remember our less fortunate monster brethren on the east coast, some of whom have been forced to cancel Halloween festivities altogether due to the ferocity of Hurricane Sandy. For them, I suggest venturing out, grabbing one of these titles, and curling up in bed with a candle to recreate the magic…
Magic such as is found in DC Comics’ National Comics: Madame X, which is full of voodoo and zombies and murder and extramarital affairs. The Tarot plays a perfect role, and the tale could easily fit into an Eerie issue of old.
Wolverine is everywhere in Marvel, it’s true. But he doesn’t always get to swear and be his intensely violent self.

Jason Starr has discussed his upcoming Wolverine Max title. The out-of-continuity series for the gritty, adult-oriented imprint will offer a version of Logan written for the fans, the writer has revealed. "It [is] based on my own experience of Wolverine and what I wanted," he told Comic Book Resources. "I talked to a lot of diehard fans including some friends of mine who are diehard. I wanted to know what they always wanted, and between that and thinking about it and talking to my editors, I wanted to do something that didn't stick to those constraints. "I wanted an almost timeless version of Logan without some of his previous constraints. But we're having fun with his claws and his healing factor and some familiar aspects of his abilities (more)...

Fans have been crying out for a Max take on Wolverine for a long time now - after all, if any character qualifies for the more mature imprint it's surely the Mutant berserker. Well this October we will finally be getting a new ongoing Max series from writer Jason Starr, with art from Connor Willumson and Roland Boschi as well as covers by Jock. Speaking to Cbr, Starr reveals a little of what we can expect from Wolverine Max.. "I definitely looked for a realistic version of Wolverine and not a superhero version. I wanted a down to earth guy who could function in the real world. I wanted to give him a back story that really explains how he's been able to do that for centuries -- to integrate into society. To me, that's what those stories have -- a kind of realistic bent where this stuff could actually be happening.

In news that feels a long time coming, Marvel Comics has finally given angry X-Man Wolverine a mature readers book. For a long time, fans have been asking for this, only for then-eic Joe Quesada to nix the idea, claiming that he was a character that too many kids enjoyed reading and blah blah blah. They even got close – it was rumoured that the Charlie Huston Wolverine: The Best There Is series from 2010-2011 was originally meant to be a Max (Marvel’s mature readers line) book.
Whatever has caused the change of heart, it’s more than welcome news, as IGN has just announced that Wolverine Max is debuting this October. Writing the series is Jason Starr. Starr is primarily known for his crime novels, and has dabbled in comics a few times in the last few years.

No stranger to film adaptations, John Grisham is set to get another check in the mail courtesy of Chris Columbus, who has officially signed on to write and direct the adaptation of the author's “Calico Joe.” The novel, released earlier this year, revolves around the world of baseball and involves a nearly fatal pitch thrown in August 24, 1973 and its implications 30 years later on both the batter, “Calico Joe” Caste, and the pitcher, Warren Tracey. Hopefully this film can match the quality of the last year’s baseball movie, “Moneyball.” [Variety]
Character actor and “Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest” helmer Michael Rapaport is set to direct his first fictional feature, an adaptation of the Jason Starr novel “Tough Luck.” The noir thriller is set in Brooklyn and follows a nice kid who, after getting in trouble with a bookie, decides to join his friend on a “can’t-lose caper.

As a director, Michael Rapaport came out of the gate swinging when, last year, he premiered the acclaimed documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest — i.e., no one thought this recognizable character actor would ever paint a thorough documentary portrait of a hip-hop group. But it’s this smashing success that should allow us to see the next announcement as more of a promise than a surprise.
Deadline reports that Rapaport (something about that sounds musical) will direct Tough Luck, a “Brooklyn-based noir thriller” that, most significantly, will be his first narrative. Jason Starr is adapting his own novel; both follow Mickey Prada, a fellow whose associations with a gambling mobster forces him to get in on a robbery that could alleviate debts which, technically, aren’t even his. A whole new ballgame for Rapaport, then, but one I’m very hopeful to see him take on.

A whole new ballgame for Rapaport, then, but one I’m very hopeful to see him take on.

With David Fincher‘s high-profile remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo headed to theaters this holiday season, the question of his directorial future remains an open-ended one. There’s certainly no shortage of rumors — a big-budget, Angelina Jolie-starring chronicle of the life of Cleopatra, an adaptation of Jason Starr‘s crime novel Panic Attack, and Disney’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which Fincher is actually officially signed on to direct. Yet even if his future in the director’s chair is an uncertain one, it appears as if the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has found a project of interest in an untitled biopic of documentary photographer Dorothea Lange. [Variety]
In unknown Leslie Dektor, the project already has a director. Her newcomer status, though, should make way for a significant contribution by Fincher as the film’s executive producer. Angela Workman (Snow Flower and the Secret Fan) is the talent behind...

Now that we've seen the trailer (and racy Nsfw international posters) for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we can officially start talking about The Social Network director David Fincher's potential next project, right? Well, that's good because Vulture broke the news yesterday that Fincher obtained the rights to Jason Starr's 2009 crime novel Panic Attack, which sounds like it's right in his wheelhouse.
The book centers on a New York shrink who kills a home intruder and then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice. Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Matchstick Men) has been hired to pen the adaptation. Vulture couldn't confirm whether Fincher would direct the film or produce it via his newly founded company, Panic Pictures.
As far as I know, Fincher hasn't signed on to direct the Dragon Tattoo sequels. I'm not opposed to him doing them, but maybe he can do what Nolan...

NY Mag has learned that director David Fincher (The Social Network, Fight Club) has optioned Jason Starr's 2009 crime novel "Panic Attack," with hopes of bringing it to the big screen under Fincher's recently formed company, Panic Pictures. "Panic Attack" revolves around a New York psychiatrist who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice. Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Tower Heist) has already been hired to adapt the book. Starr said that great villains make a good thriller and "Panic Attack" has a great villain. "This guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family], he's a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath," said the author.

I’ve been saying all week that David Fincher’s The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo looks almost like it could be a sequel to Se7en and now comes word from Vulture of a new attachment that likewise could be related to another of his previous works. This time his forgotten 2002 film, Panic Room.
Fincher has optioned the rights to Panic Attack, a novel from Jason Starr about “a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.” Yup, that definitely sounds like a movie in Fincher’s pulpy wheelhouse (Se7en, The Game) rather than his more serious historical re-tellings (Zodiac, Social Network) and as I say seems to kick off where Panic Room left off.
Ocean’s Eleven and Matchstick Men scribe Ted Griffin is working on the screenplay.

David Fincher is already considering his post-Girl With The Dragon Tattoo career, having optioned the movie rights to crime novel Panic Attack. No, it’s not a sequel to Fincher’s own Panic Room, but a book by Jason Starr that follows a New York psychiatrist who kills an intruder in his home, and finds himself consumed by a media frenzy. Not only that, but the psychiatrist has to deal with Johnny Long, the vengeful friend of the dead intruder who starts stalking his family. According to author Starr, Long’s “a really...

Probably some of the best perks that come with being one of the hottest directors in Hollywood is that you get your pick of scripts to work with. Now it seems that David Fincher may have found something that he would like to work on. According to Vulture, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo director has optioned for a crime novel, titled Panic Attack. The Jason Starr novel will be adapted by Ted Griffin (of films like Ocean’s Eleven, Matchstick Men, Rumor Has It, Tower Heist and the short-lived television show”Terriers”).
The one thing that separates “Panic Attack” from the rest of the crime novels is that it is much more than just your average crime novel, its about a gun-wielding New York psychologist named Adam Bloom who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice. But Johnny Long,...

The last time he tackled the story of someone defending their home against an invader, David Fincher brought the world Panic Room. Now he might be aiming at something similar, and it’s even got “panic” in the title. Vulture reports that he’s optioned Jason Starr’s novel Panic Attack.Published in 2009, Starr’s tome was a crossbreed of Panic Room and Straw Dogs, which found a New York therapist shooting and killing a home intruder. But the story doesn't stop there, as a media storm kicks up around the case and the criminal’s accomplice starts a vengeful crusade against the shrink.Fincher has nabbed Ocean’s Eleven writer Ted Griffin to adapt the book but there’s no word yet on whether he will actually add it to his growing list of directorial possibilities or simply stay as a guiding, producing hand. Either way, he’ll handle...

Director David Fincher has optioned for “Panic Attack,” a crime novel written by Jason Starr. According to New York Magazine’s Vulture blog, the film will be part of Fincher’s recently formed production company, Panic Pictures. Screenwriter Ted Griffin is set to write the adaptation. Griffin wrote the screenplays for films such as “Ocean’s Eleven” and “Tower Heist.” Here is the official synopsis from the novel: Dr. Adam Bloom has the perfect life. He’s financially secure and lives in a luxurious house with his wife, Dana, and their twenty-two-year-old daughter, Marissa, a recent college graduate. Late one night, his daughter wakes him up and says, “Somebody’s downstairs.” Adam uses his gun to kill one of the unarmed intruders, but the other escapes. From that moment on, everyone’s life in the Bloom household will never be the same. Adam doesn’t feel safe, not with the other intruder out there somewhere,...

Following on from his "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" adaptation, David Fincher looks to be continuing his return to the macabre territory that made him famous.
Fincher's Panic Pictures production company has just optioned Jason Starr’s 2009 macabre crime novel "Panic Attack" reports Vulture.
The story deals with a New York psychiatrist who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice.
"Ocean’s Eleven" and "Tower Heist" screenwriter Ted Griffin will adapt the book. Four of Starr's previous novels are already in development in Hollywood in one form or another.

Last year, David Fincher signed a development deal [1] with Media Rights Capitol that would cover the financing of a couple films, and the new step in moving forward with pictures under that deal is the formation of a company called Panic Pictures. Perhaps appropriately, the first property optioned for the company is a thriller called Panic Attack, which Ted Griffin (Ocean's Eleven, Tower Heist) will script. Vulture [2] has the details of the option, and says the book is about "a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice." Jason Starr wrote the book, and tells Vulture, ...the thing about Panic Attack is that there’s a really compelling antihero in this guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family]... He’s a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath. Will David Fincher direct? No idea at this point. He has The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo to finish,...

Will David Fincher Go Into Panic Mode Again?
After giving us the brilliant and often under-appreciated Panic Room, director David Fincher is looking to head back into panic mode again with a new film called Panic Attack. Vulture tells us that Fincher has optioned Jason Starr‘s novel of the same name. Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) will be in charge of the script. The film will follow “a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.” Sounds a tad bit similar to Panic Room but still very interesting.

It seems that director David Fincher is still keeping an eye on what's coming ahead, at least according Vulture (via The Film Stage). They're reporting that, through Mrc, Fincher has optioned a "2009 macabre crime novel" titled Panic Attack written by Jason Starr (Amazon). Apparently screenwriter Ted Griffin (of films like Ocean's Eleven, Matchstick Men, Rumor Has It, "Terriers", Tower Heist) is set to adapt the book for Fincher, or at least start work on a script. But this is only one of many projects that Fincher has in the works at Media Rights Capital, where he secured a deal last year. Still, sounds like an intriguing project. Starr's Panic Attack is about a gun-wielding New York psychologist named Adam Bloom who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim's vengeful accomplice. Sounds simple enough, but apparently not. "And the thing about Panic Attack is...

We shared posters and a trailer for David Fincher's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It looks as though Fincher may have another project lined up based on a book. According to Vulture, Fincher has optioned Jason Starr‘s crime novel Panic Attack, which tells the story of “a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.” The screenplay will be written by Starr and produced by Fincher under his new company, Panic Pictures.
Starr has written a number of crime novels. His tenth book, The Pack arrives on shelves next week and is about "werewolf stay-at-home dads run amok on the Upper West Side." Starr is no stranger to Hollywood adaptation. Four of his novels are currently in development, including his 2008 thriller, The Follower, with Bret Easton Ellis adapting.

We won’t be seeing David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo until December 21st, but the first teaser that premiered this weekend blew pretty much all of us away, and the marketing blitz is continuing with a few posters cropping up online recently. So while we (thankfully) won’t be devoid of him for the rest of 2011, his future seems pretty open.
We know that he’s scheduled to direct 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney, and that there’s also been talks of doing another version of Cleopatra with Angelina Jolie. Also take into account the pilot for the TV series House of Cards that stars Kevin Spacey and that he might also direct the other two installments of the movie trilogy that Dragon Tattoo will be starting, and you see that he isn’t slowing down. Now, we have another project to add to the pile for him.

David Fincher's last two films--"The Social Network" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"--have found the director stepping back from the grittier, grimmer fare of past efforts like "Fight Club" and "Se7en." And while the Academy has recognized but not yet rewarded those efforts, the director looks like he's fully embracing his pulp side once again. Of course, there's the upcoming Christmas downer "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and now, the helmer has rounded up another project to put on his plate of potential next directing gigs. Vulture reports that Fincher has optioned Jason Starr's novel "Panic Attack." Ted…...

Been feeling a bit like the economy: I’ve been down and out for a while, but hoping to make a comeback. Thankfully, I’ve been able to recuperate with a little R&R and a little time with some new graphic novels. After experiencing Area 10, I decided to revisit the Vertigo Crime series with another thriller to get the blood-pumping, er…kinda! The Chill by Jason Starr and art by Mick Bertilorenzi, was balls-out fun! NYPD Homicide detective John Pavano is determined to solve a series of grisly murders. The bodies of men are being left in semi-frozen states, stabbed, and grotesquely mutilated. Though clearly the work of a serial killer, it becomes clear that the perpetrator is a mysterious figure that is elusive as she is attractive. The problem is no one reports seeing the same person at the scene of the crime. ...

Welcome to your Friday morning television briefing. ABC has released the first promo for Season Six of Lost, the series' final season. But, be warned, the fifteen-second clip doesn't contain any new footage, which many believe is proof positive that the network will be going out of their way to avoid revealing just what happened after Juliet detonated the hydrogen bomb at the end of last season. There's still no premiere date for Season Six of Lost, but it's expected to debut roughly around the end of January. (Hollywood Reporter's The Live Feed) BBC One has announced today that it will air the latest David Tennant Doctor Who special, Doctor Who: The Waters of Mars, on Sunday, November 15th at 7 pm GMT. No word yet on when BBC America will schedule the special, which will feature Tennant in one of his last appearances before his final two-part story at the end of the year.
