The Monday, April 22 live episode of “American Idol” Season 22 proved to be the end of the road for two fan-fave singers: Jayna Elise and Roman Collins. They were the only artists in the Top 12 that failed to earn enough votes from viewers to make it into next week’s all-important Top 10. Host Ryan Seacrest delivered the unfortunate news in front of judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. The guest mentor for “Billboard #1 Hits” night was Meghan Trainor.
Throughout the competition, Jayna sang tunes like “The Climb” (Auditions round), “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now” (Showstopper round), “Confident” (Top 24 round), “My All”, “All I Wanted”, “I Have Nothing” (Top 14 round) and “Diamonds” (Top 12 round). The 22-year-old performer from Washington, D.C. actually began her journey last year on “Idol,” but was eliminated prior to the Season 21 live shows. The good news is that she made it much further this time around.

The first live coast-to-coast episode of “American Idol” Season 22 aired on Sunday, April 21 on ABC, with the Top 14 contestants performing in front of host Ryan Seacrest, judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie, and guest mentor Gene Simmons. Viewers all across the nation voted 19.9 million times throughout the two-hour episode, which had a theme of “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” and the Top 12 artists made it to the next round. In the end, the two singers who were eliminated were Nya and Jordan Anthony.
Throughout the competition, Nya sang tunes like “Wait a Minute!” (Auditions round), “Get Ready” (Showstopper round), “The Best” (Top 24 round), “Georgia on My Mind”, “Water” and “I Say a Little Prayer” (Top 14 round). The 28-year-old Broadway performer from Manhattan, New York was an early favorite on the show, but the judges had to save her last week when she placed in the bottom — never a good sign.

Chris Garneau is one of the rising stars in music we’re excited about, and Just Jared wants to give readers an opportunity to get to know him!
The New York singer-songwriter is releasing his EP, Out Of Love, featuring the heart-breaking title track, “Millions” and “First Man”, an alt-country track that tells the tale of a first crush from start to finish.
The openly gay singer shares that the song captures a spark of homoerotic desire from the perspective of a man looking back on the macho action stars who marked his adolescence.
“’First Man’ isn’t just about a first crush but more importantly an initial recognition of a person’s queerness. My boyfriend wrote the lyrics, basing it on his memories of falling in love with the macho action movie characters from his youth. The concept led to a laid back, folk rock country vibe, and that...

When Bryan Fogel set out to make his documentary “Icarus,” he already had a ready-made gimmick that sounded like the next great step in “Super Size Me”-style filmmaking: in order to understand how professional athletes dope and still avoid detection, he’d try it out for himself. Fogel, a comedian and amateur bike racer, cooked up a plan to dope himself, see how it altered his athletic performance, and then see if he could avoid detection when it came to drug testing.
It was a buzzy, compelling idea. And then it got even crazier.

Edgar Wright never had a $100 million hit until “Baby Driver,” which crossed the milestone at the domestic box office on Sunday, August 13. The action movie has been breaking one record after another for Wright’s career. In just one week it made $39 million, more than any other movie in the director’s career, and now that it has climbed above $100 million it has grossed more money than Wright’s four previous films combined.

Just weeks after the hit web series Hot Ones returned for its third season, its host brought his signature format to network TV. Sean Evans appeared on a recent episode of The Late Show, during which he fed Stephen Colbert increasingly spicy hot sauces while asking him a series of "burning questions."
In Hot Ones, which can be found on Complex Networks' First We Feast channel, Evans sits down with celebrities and chats with them as they consume Scoville-shattering hot wings. Colbert, in introducing Evans, notes that this approach is able to break down inhibitions and "get great answers out of people." The late night host also complemented Evans' interview skills, which are arguably as crucial to Hot Ones' success as its unique format.
All necessary platitudes aside, Colbert and Evans sat down for a Late Show edition of Hot Ones. Evans' appearance on the program coincided with Colbert's stint as a vegan,...

Writer/Director Edgar Wright is known for his unique films that both satarize and embrace whatever genre he chooses. We're talking Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and The World's End. Wright's dialogue is always poetic with the sharpest wit and most clever word-plays. His editing style is unmistakable, fast and in your face, smashing one scene seamlessly into another. His shots are colorful, with just as much to say as the dialogue that accompanies them. His action scenes are sincere, brutal, and among the best out there; it's a wonder that Wright hasn't been handed a giant action franchise on a scale even bigger than Baby Driver (Though we guess Ant-Man would have been that film, had he stayed on). Wright's actors are always top notch, selected with care and directed to perfection. All four of his previous releases are winners for these reasons,...

Earlier today, we reported on the revelation of *gasp* Luke’s first words in Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It makes us feel that much closer to the material we’re looking so forward to consuming.

What is the future of film? How close are we to an age where only very specific movies hit theaters? How closer are we to a world with a film industry that thrives exclusively on home sales? For years, the industry has fought against the oppressive forces that are piracy and the home release market. It’s easy enough to get an HD copy of virtually any film in theaters now, so the goal from most studios is to give audiences a reason to make the venture out of their homes, thus the rise of 3D and IMAX films.
Working against them are pirates who don’t care about getting that theater experience, as well as the home theater industry. With giant 60-80-inch HD screens now being sold at a relatively accessible price (along with stellar surround sound systems). Also working against them are services like Netflix. Netflix has...

Let’s be real here. No one is going to The Fate of the Furious to witness Shakespeare. Most of the joy that’s mustered from these Fast and Furious films comes from the amount of popcorn consumed. It’s fun, harmless, turn-off-your-brain kind of fare, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Despite it’s silly, ridiculous premise, when the first trailer hit, I was pretty much sold. Between the wrecking ball tearing through some of the cars, and Dominic’s turn on his “family,” it was hard not to get caught up in the Michael Bay-friendly hijinks that were bound to ensue.
It’s with that in mind that I walked into this next trailer. I wanted mindless, high-octane action, and that’s exactly what I got. From the instant we see Dwayne Johnson pick up a grenade and throw it away, I knew I was on board.

Alice is not happy with her accommodations.
As Quentin tried to concentrate on curing her, Alice made her displeasure known loudly and often on The Magicians Season 2 Episode 7 "Plan B."
Is there still a chance to get the girl she was back?
I think Alice was lying when she told Quentin there was no hope. As long as Alice remains a Niffin, Q needs to be on his guard at all times.
She's not trustworthy.
But she is fun. Olivia Taylor Dudley seems to relish the chance to play this new version of Alice. She's got renewed energy, anger, and just enough crazy to keep us wondering what she'll do next.
Plus, her sass has never been stronger. Margo might be dethroned as the queen with the sharpest tongue.
Alice: Just let me take over your body. For the tiniest little bit. I'll be good. I'll be so good.
Quentin: No.

The Backstreet Boys recently talked to Elle magazine about their Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, where Carter admitted that had their been Instagram and Twitter when they were coming up, they'd probably be dogged by the same image!
Exclusive: Backstreet Boys Talk Fatherhood and Seeing Nick Carter as a Dad: ‘It’s Trippy!’
"I'll tell you this," the 37-year-old singer shared. "There is some s**t that Aj and I both did that I'm really glad that social media wasn't around for. Because Justin Bieber couldn't hold a candle to what we did."
Whoa!
"Just anything from me being drunk or irate at a club," Carter's bandmate, Aj McLean, agreed. "Or me walking naked down the hallway in a hotel for no apparent reason."

Like most of us, Vanessa Hudgen loves a good Friendsgiving celebration.
“Thanksgiving you don’t get to choose your family and Friendsgiving you do,” she tells People. “I love any excuse to get friends together to have a good time.”
The 27-year-old triple threat teamed up with Just Dance 2017 for a pre-Turkey Day event as a way to liven up the holidays and get everyone moving – especially to work off those extra Thanksgiving dinner calories.
When it came time for dinner, party guests indulged in a gluten-free menu by Heirloom La with plenty of vegan options and one specific squash in mind.

If you’re a popular book get ready because Hollywood is coming for you. With the big screen success of books such as Harry Potter, Divergent, and Maze Runner (just to name a few) it looks like Hollywood is poaching another literary classic, Dune. If you missed the 1984 film version of the book don’t worry, you didn’t miss much…and it’s making a comeback anyway.
Legendary films has just acquired the film and TV rights to Herbert’s seminal science fiction novel Dune after coming to agreement with the Herbert estate.
Dune is a 1965 epic science fiction novel by American author Frank Herbert. In 2003, it was cited as the world's best-selling science fiction novel. Set in the distant future amidst a feudal interstellar society in which noble houses, in control of individual planets, owe allegiance to the Padishah Emperor, Dune tells the story of young Paul Atreides,...

Who are we? Why are we here? And what exists beyond what we see—beyond the limits of this conscious life? These are questions that philosophers and authors of fantastic fiction have asked for centuries—from Leibniz to Schopenhauer, Machen to Lovecraft. The short stories of Thomas Ligotti, beginning with his recently republished collections Songs of a Dead Dreamer and Grimscribe, explore the same themes as these authors. Yet something about Ligotti is incomprehensible—some chimerical makeup that creates a singular, uncanny, and utterly haunting experience.
Several elements of Ligotti’s stories have reared their heads in pop culture many times, both before and after his first collection was published. Several of his stories are dedicated to Lovecraft, and rightly so—they embody that master’s themes of an incomprehensible universe and a questionable reality with chilling effectiveness, even sporting a few tentacled beasts of their own. His decaying landscapes,...

For the third straight day I get to share a video with you from Marvel's The Defenders that reveals who'll be joining our favorite street-level heroes when they have their epic crossover event on Netflix next year. The general thesis of this new video continues what they started on Monday by putting the emphasis squarely on the supporting cast.
The promo below reveals that we'll get to see three seminal characters from Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage in The Defenders. Check it out:

The most surprising thing about “Keeping Up with the Joneses” isn’t that it’s actually funny, but that some touching unlikely friendships emerge amidst the outrageous action sequences. Jeff Gaffney (Zach Galifianakis) is a lovably dull suburban husband, who dotes on his wife, Karen (Isla Fisher), and enjoys a simple life in his beloved cul-de-sac. With the kids off at summer camp, the Gaffneys have time on their hands to wring their hands over the mysterious new couple that moves into the neighborhood, making an all-cash offer on the house across the street.
Tim and Natalie Jones (Jon Hamm and Gal Gadot) are gorgeous, worldly and very much in love. Naturally, everyone in the cul-de-sac hates them. Except affable Jeff, who quickly develops a “man-crush” on Tim (in the words of the movie). But Natalie’s perfect potluck dishes and Tim’s glass-blowing hobby are not fooling Karen, whose...

A furious slew of titles in the works would seem to prophesize a robust main competition slate for Cannes 2016. Though our initial list will eventually be pruned down as the year progresses (Berlin may snag something in here, especially if their 2016 lineup looks anything like their landmark selection from this past January), we’re confident that we will be seeing another round of heavy hitting auteurs unveiling their latest bits on the Croisette.
Absent from the main competition in 2015 were the Romanians (Muntean and Porumboiu were assigned to Un Certain Regard) and any trace of Latin filmmakers. The 2016 edition looks to make up for lost ground. For the Romanians, a couple heavy hitting titans from the New Wave will be ready. Cristi Puiu, who previously won Ucr in 2005 with The Death of Mr. Lazarescu should hopefully be getting a competition invite for Sierra Nevada. Meanwhile, previous Palme d’Or winner...

If you've been reading us this season then you know we've already given you pretty thorough analyses of this year's short film categories. I watched all the films that made it to the final consideration stage and offered up thoughts on each and some somewhat informed predictions. In the end, though, it was still tricky to guess, but I did get four of the five animated players right. Now, with nominees announced, it seems worth it to review. So let's… All things considered, the animated short category is difficult to handicap. Particularly with the infiltration of other voters, as theses categories are opened up to the entire membership via screeners, it's just hard to guess which way preference will fall. The biggest surprise for me was that Glen Keane's gorgeous, heavily promoted "Duet" missed out on a nod. I frankly thought it could have put up a fight to win,...

As 2014 comes to a close, we take a look back at some of the best movie music from this past year. The backbone of any movie, audiences heard rocket engines roar, traveled through Lego worlds and made spiritual connections all thanks to the musical vision of the composer.
In a mix that was soulful, haunting and fun, this year’s soundtracks covered a range of emotions, from light to dark, to atmospheric and assaultive.
