It gets the job done, but Pes 2020 is lacking that special something. Here's our review...
Release Date: Sept. 10, 2019
Platform: PS4 (reviewed), Xbo, PC
Developer: Pes Productions
Publisher: Konami
Genre: Sports sim
If you really tried, you could probably separate famous soccer players into two distinct camps: there are the workmanlike players who get the job done in an unfussy way, and then there are the showboaty players that pull unexpected tricks out of the bag. If we had to categorize soccer-inspired video games in the same way, eFootball: Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 would definitely fall into the former camp - it's a solid simulation of the beautiful game, with a strong array of team licenses by Pro Evo standards, but as an overall experience, it's not going to blow your socks off.
Gameplay-wise, as anyone who played the demo could tell you, playing against your mates in Pes...

Newcastle United are still aiming to recruit three players before the summer transfer window shuts – including at least one of two wingers, according to reports.
The Chronicle claim that the Magpies are still hoping to sign a winger, a forward and even a centre-back – as long as they can offload one of their current crop.
Interestingly, the publication suggests that Steve McClaren also wants a winger and that he is looking to add at least one of Sparta Prague’s Ladislav Krejci or Marseille’s Florian Thauvin to his squad this summer, if not both.
Claude Paris/AP
Having already netted twice in 14 senior Czech Republic caps, Sparta Prague left-winger Krejci is already making waves in Eastern Europe.
Earlier this summer, BT Sport report that Krejci – a player dubbed as “the new Pavel Nedved” – could be available for somewhere between £6 million-£10 million this summer.

Liverpool are in Spain preparing for tonight’s daunting Champions League showdown with Real Madrid, knowing that a victory would arguably be the most unlikely triumph in the club’s history. Brendan Rodgers’ side are in extremely poor form, both domestically and in Europe, while Carlo Ancelotti’s star-studded team are scoring goals for fun and are the current champions of Europe. They key question is: has there ever been a game the Reds were less likely to win since the competition’s inception in 1992?
The 2005 Champions League Final is probably a good place to start. AC Milan, managed by Ancelotti at the time, had a ridiculous amount of talent in their side, whether it be Cafu and Paolo Maldini at the back, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf and Kaka in midfield or the brilliant Andriy Shevchenko up front. Not many gave Rafa Benitez’s Liverpool much hope,...

Celtic were handed with a difficult draw in Nyon today, as they were paired with Italian giants Juventus. Many fans had felt this was the clubs’ best ever chance to make it to the Last 8 of the UEFA Champions League for the first time. And a tie against Malaga, Schalke or even Psg would have been seen as an excellent opportunity to do that. Being paired with the Serie A champions will certainly put a dent in many fans’ ambitions as they are possibly the toughest team Celtic could have drawn. However, there is no reason for Celtic to fear Juventus despite the Italians being favourites.
Celtic have shown this season that they can match some of the best sides in Europe when they beat Barcelona at home and also trumped last-season’s quarter-finalists Benfica as well as wealthy Spartak Moscow. The Parkhead side have also beaten Juventus at home in the past.

Arsenal and England’s Theo Walcott could quit The Gunners in January and sign a pre-contract agreement to join Juventus on a free transfer, according to a report in SunSport.
The newspaper reports that Walcott is waiting to see if Arsenal superstar Robin Van Persie agrees a contract extension at the Emirates before he commits his future to the club. Walcott, like Van Perise, has just one year left to run on his current deal at Arsenal and with Italian Champions Juventus desperate to land both players, Walcott is ready to play the waiting game this summer to see how the future of his Gunners colleague develops.
A SunSport source said:
“It seems unbelievable the club has left it until well into the last year of the contracts and still not managed to get either player sorted.”

Liverpool are believed to be close to snaring the signature of Serbian wide-man Milos Krasic, with Italian champions Juventus willing to part with the player for as little as £6 million.
That’s according to the Mirror, who also report that Sam Allardyce had been in Turin this week in an attempt to bring the winger to newly-promoted West Ham on a season-long loan. Juve are thought to prefer the option of a sale in order to fund the move for a superstar target, with Robin Van Persie of Arsenal and Liverpool’s own Luis Suarez among those linked with a move to Serie A this summer.
Though he started his time with The Old Lady well, earning comparisons with Juventus legend Pavel Nedved for his technique on the ball, last season was a mixed bag for Krasic. He ended the year a champion, yet that league winners medal will have...
