After teasing the possibility for years, Carisi and Rollins finally crossed that line when she kissed him after he read his speech for...

This story about Kyra Sedgwick first appeared in the Miniseries/Movies issue of TheWrap’s Emmy magazine.
It took Kyra Sedgwick nearly a decade to get “Story of a Girl” made into a movie, because people just didn’t get it. An intimate portrait of a family woefully unequipped to deal with their teenage daughter’s fitful transition into womanhood, Sara Zarr’s 2007 young-adult novel lacked the kind of flash necessary to attract the attention of Hollywood producers looking for the next “Twilight.”
But to Sedgwick, that’s exactly why the movie needed to be made.
“I thought, ‘Where are the stories about what real teenagers are going through?’ I didn’t feel like I saw it anywhere,” said Sedgwick, who made her directorial debut with the Lifetime film. “I know for me growing up, I always processed my feelings through art. We need to see ourselves reflected back from...

She’s won an Oscar. She’s won a Tony. Can she now win an Emmy? Catherine Zeta-Jones is on the 2018 Emmy ballot for Lifetime’s telefilm “Cocaine Godmother: The Griselda Blanco Story,” in which she portrays a real-life drug dealer in the trafficking industry. A year ago the idea of Zeta-Jones coming to television seemed far-fetched, but then she took on the iconic role of Olivia de Havilland in Ryan Murphy‘s “Feud: Bette and Joan.” Zeta-Jones didn’t earn any Emmy love for that project, but might she receive a nomination for “Cocaine Godmother”?
Zeta-Jones prevailed at the Oscars for Best Supporting Actress for “Chicago” (2002), while her Tony came for Best Actress in a Musical for “A Little Night Music” (2010). Should she win an Emmy, she’d join the esteemed triple crown of acting club that includes such legends as Maggie Smith, Jessica Lange and Al Pacino. It...

After more than three decades as an actress and producer in Hollywood, Kyra Sedgwick is finally taking the leap behind the camera, making her directorial debut in Lifetime's coming-of-age TV movie, Story of a Girl.
Based on the 2007 Ya novel by Sara Zarr, the two-hour movie centers on a young teenage girl named Deanna (played by Banshee's Ryann Shane), whose sex tape goes viral in the sleepy town she's called home all her life, fracturing her relationship with her family and exiling her among her peers.
For Sedgwick, Story of a Girl hits close to home -- "So many things about the story rang true to me," she shared with Et -- and part of the reason why she was less hesitant about putting on the director's hat for the first time. Online indiscretions can represent defining moments for ordinary people just as much as for politicians and celebrities brought down by their own hubris, as sympathetically demonstrated in Story of a Girl. A cautionary coming-of-age drama with an emphasis on the healing power of self-reflection, Kyra Sedgwick's first feature as director should capture the attention of a broad audience when it airs on Lifetime next month.

Considering the ending of this episode and last week’s unfathomably entertaining Banshee entry, “Real Life is the Nightmare” has the misfortune of being sandwiched between television that redefines high adrenaline. Instead, what we get–among several other things–is a quieter meditation on parenting that shows some of the difficulties that Carrie, Gordon and Hood have either had to overcome or are currently trying to overcome.
There’s an easy dichotomy to point out between the way that Gordon is seen literally running and Carrie spends much of the episode figuratively running. “We need to do better,” Gordon tells Carrie. But whereas the Gordon of a few weeks ago would be saying those words out of frustration (or straight-up aimed at Carrie and worded as “You...

Banshee, Season 3: Episode 2 – “Snakes and Whatnot”
Written by Halley Gross
Directed by Loni Peristere
Airs Friday nights at 10 on Cinemax
If last week’s season three premiere suggested the importance of legacy in Banshee, “Snakes and Whatnot” is the companion piece that shows how one’s legacy can be controlled by perception. It’s said that history is written by the victors, and several characters here–Rebecca, Chayton and Nola chief among them–want to make sure that they’re both taken seriously and come out on top.
Nola’s naturally callous demeanor, while one of her most entertaining qualities from a viewer’s perspective, made it hard to gauge how much she cared about her brother Alex. She was there offering curt advice when he was slipping up, but her return to Banshee shows how deep sibling love goes and how it’s easy to be taken for granted.

Opening remarks
It’s not even February and, already, 2014 is shaping up to be a massive year for television. True Detective announced itself as the year’s first new stand-out series. Against all odds, Dan Harmon and Community returned and are putting together a respectable comeback season. FX’s fantastic and hard-working Justified continues to solidify its place among the greats of the past decade. And Girls‘ unique blend of comedy and drama is once again pushing the narrative boundaries of the half-hour series in its third season.
One series, though, is leading the charge at the beginning of the year. The most unlikely of heroes, Cinemax’s Banshee, in just a matter of three weeks, has matured into something truly special – something a lot of TV writers refer to as “appointment viewing” when describing other series. With limited experience dabbling in co-produced original programming, Cinemax released Banshee – its first...

If you happened to tune into the first season of Alan Ball’s latest sex-filled drama, Banshee, on Cinemax then you probably fell in love with the crazy world that’s been built over those first ten episodes. It’s the kind of series that’s filled with smartness and the kind of characters you love to hate and hate to love, and it’s all padded with sex scenes that, at times, seem so gratuitous that you have to double check you didn’t accidentally wind up on the Playboy Channel. But it’s all Banshee and it’s all good. Which is why it’s so exciting to know when this drama is returning!
According to Deadline, Banshee’s ten-episode second season will drop on Friday, January 10. The series stars Antony Starr as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee,...

James checks out the first impressive season of HBO's Banshee on Blu Ray, a crazy ride he can't recommend enough...
Some new TV shows arrive on a wave of hype. Earlier this year, The Following debuted amid a furore of coming from the writer of Scream and starring, erm, Kevin Bacon. In a few weeks, Joss Whedon’s Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere – a new show where even seconds worth of footage merit a news story. Then there are those shows which creep in, near unnoticed but as word of mouth begins to spread about just how special they are, viewership begins to grow.
This is the position that True Blood producer Alan Ball’s new show Banshee now finds itself in as its first season arrives on home release. Here in the UK, Banshee went out on a Monday night, following Game of Thrones...

Banshee delivers a slightly more restrained, character-driven episode this week. Here's James' review of The Rave...
This review contains spoilers.
1.2 The Rave
At the conclusion of Banshee’s raucous opening episode we were left with the impression that small town Mafioso Kai Proctor had finally met his match in new pseudo-Sheriff Lucas Hood. By the time the credits flashed across the screen at the end of The Rave we were left feeling almost sorry for Hood as the man tasked with the job of bringing Proctor into line. In a largely character-driven episode, Banshee showed its audience just how bad a man Kai Proctor actually is.
At the core of Banshee’s second instalment was the scheming of Proctor to get Hood on side, but before we got to that a few more pieces of Lucas and Ana’s criminal past fell into place.

As "Friday Night Lights" prepares to take the field for the last time, those of us who are unhealthily over-invested in Coach Taylor are looking for something to numb the pain that will inevitably follow "Fnl's" final episode.
FX's "Lights Out" may be an unexpected contender. Holt McCallany plays Patrick "Lights" Leary, a former heavyweight boxing champion with an itch to return to the ring to support his wife and three daughters. The marketing has largely swayed toward the boxing aspect of the show, with posters displaying McCallany looking stone-faced and bloody, gloves up, but we're particularly drawn to the way the series taps into Leary's family life outside the ring.
If Coach Taylor parents like a coach, Leary parents like a boxer, as you can see from the clip below. Played by Meredith Hagner, Ryann Shane, and "Fringe's" Lily Pilblad, Leary's daughters bring out his softer side. Their boyfriends,...
