The British have always been great explorers. Perhaps it is because we inherited the genes of the Romans, Saxons, Normans and the many other invaders whose own curiosity once lead them to theses shores. Unsurprisingly, several modern day explorers and outdoor adventurers have made their way onto British TV screens. Whether you enjoy fishing, climbing or Arctic adventures there can be no doubt that the following folks are the 10 best British TV adventurers.
Jeremy Wade. Anyway who has to face dangers ranging from man-eating crocodiles to heavily armed fugitives in lawless parts of Africa is something of an “adventurer.” However, for Jeremy Wade these dangers are mere distractions as he is mainly focused on hazards such as electric eels, bull sharks and various types of fish...

Married couples like to share experiences to strengthen their relationship, although most won't endure what Mykel Hawke and Ruth England face in Man, Woman, Wild. It's really no holiday…. When you consider the intensity with which couples can bicker over directions when driving, what married couple Mykel and Ruth face in this series is by normal standards a succession of grounds for divorce.

The testosterone is running thick in The Discovery Channel's new reality show One Man Army, which claims to pit "four of the deadliest men on the planet" in rigorous competition for the title of "One Man Army."
They're making it sound a little like that Arnold Schwarzenegger movie The Running Man, aren't they? But the men aren't in competition directly against each other here — not hand-to-hand anyway. Yes, they do variations on the usual reality show tests, but these tasks rely more on brute strength and gun skills.
The "operatives" are a weapons instructor, an army force para-rescue member, a S.W.A.T. team member, and a U.S. Military Marshall. It's all hosted by a man named Mykel Hawke, which sounds like a porn star name, but he's actually U.S. Army Special Forces veteran and former Green Beret. He couldn't be more somber and campy and wonderful.

Discovery is taking the competition series to a new extreme by pitting Special Forces and law enforcement personnel against each other in challenges that would be impossible for most reality TV contestants.
The network has ordered One Man Army, hosted by former Green Beret Mykel Hawke (Man, Woman Wild). Each episode features four new competitors, including men from the Navy Seals, Marines, Air Force, Army, U.S. Marshals Service, Swat, and other law enforcement agencies, as well as top fighters from mixed-martial arts and other extreme sports.

Going through the television guide on clicker to watch TV today, got me wondering whether the Survival Reality Shows were going too far for the sake of entertainment. Television offers many different survival type reality programs. They claim that by watching the star of the show endure hardships and challenges, viewers can learn how to survive in the wilderness with few resources. These lessons are certainly entertaining, and most of the advice they offer is good. However, the average viewer should never attempt some of the techniques that are taught.
Bear Grylls in Man Vs Wild enjoying "fresh meat"
On a recent episode of Man Woman Wild, Mykel Hawke showed his wife, Ruth Engsland, how to boil water using a stone that had been heated in their campfire. The water dish that they used had been fashioned from a large piece of sea kelp. In another episode, Ruth learned to...

You would think that winter would be the most dangerous time of year in Alaska. But on the latest 'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9Pm Et on Discovery), husband-and-wife team Mykel Hawke and Ruth England discover that the spring thaw season can be even worse. While exploring the remote bush country, the couple's snowmobile breaks down. Now, they must tough it out for four days, with only the clothes on their backs and a single knife as their survival tool.
The pair salvage what they can from their busted snowmobile. They cut off the vehicle's treads, and turn those into snowshoes. Spark plugs from the snowmobile are used to start a fire. They make a hut out of snow, and use their knife to cut the inner bark out of trees; which they then use as food. (This is what the Native Americans used to eat sometimes as well.

On the latest 'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9Pm Et on Discovery), survival expert Mykel Hawke and his journalist wife Ruth take a leisurely rafting trip in Utah. They're traveling down the Colorado River, which apparently flows through a lot more states than Colorado. (Utah being one of these states, obviously.) Everything is going fine. Or rather, everything is sort of going fine -- right up until the moment that their raft overturns.

Being together in the wilderness can be a bonding sort of experience. But sometimes, couples can get a little too close. Like, "drinking each others' urine" kind of too close. Which is pretty much what takes place on 'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9Pm Et on Discovery).
As always, husband and wife Mykel Hawke and Ruth England are stranded together in the middle of nowhere. But this time around, they're getting a little dehydrated. So Mykel comes up with a brilliant plan. He'll just have the two of them drink his pee. Yes! No! ... The whole thing seems sort of awful, but maybe it's also necessary.

What's the worst fight that you ever got into as part of couple? And were you under a lot of stress at the time?
'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9Pm Et on Discovery) is a reality show featuring a husband-and-wife team. Mykel Hawke is a former Special Forces survival expert. Ruth England, his wife, is a television journalist. Together, they are dropped into the most inhospitable spots on the planet. The two of them must survive, alone, for four days. And they have only a single knife and the clothes that they're wearing. Kind of a pressure-y situation, no?
On the latest episode, the pair are stranded in Tasmania, of all places. Unfortunately, a fierce storm starts rolling in. The couple must improve their handmade shelter quickly, or they'll, um, "die" of hypothermia. As the wind races and the thunder booms, Mykel and Ruth begin arguing about how best to survive.

Mykel Hawke is a survival expert. His wife Ruth England is a TV journalist. Together, on 'Man, Woman, Wild' (Fri., 9Pm Et on Discovery), they travel into some of the most remote locations on Earth. There, they must survive with nothing more than a single knife and the clothes they are wearing.
On the most recent episode, the pair found themselves stranded in the Louisiana bayou. And in order to get some food, they had to kill a possum. Yikes. It didn't go super-smoothly, and Ruth got kind of upset.
Although possums are known for playing "dead" when threatened, this one decided to go in different direction -- and escaped up a tree. Ruth and Mykel eventually tracked it down, then stabbed it to death with a stick and a knife.
