Director: Patrick Lussier. Review: Adam Wing. If you’re looking for one Hell of a pitch, look no further. Nicolas Cage star as Milton, probably the least threatening name ever given to a felon destined to break out of hell. That’s right folks, he breaks out of Hell for one last shot at redemption. Intent on bringing down the sadistic cult that murdered his daughter, he has three days to stop them before they sacrifice her baby beneath a full moon. He's joined on his travels by Piper (Amber Heard), a potty-mouthed waitress who steals her ex-boyfriend's cherry-red muscle car in order to help Milton - hotter than the fires of Hell could ever claim to be and surely the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled. The two of them are hot (there’s that word again) on the trail of Jonah King (Billy Burke), who wants to sacrifice...

Like a movie about a firefighter killing terrorists right after 9/11, or a movie called "Looters" right after the 1992 Los Angeles riots, "Drive Angry" was a victim of bad timing. Sold primarily as a 3D movie right as audiences began to tire of 3D ("Shot In 3D!" the trailers probably shouldn't have boasted), on the backend of a wave of cruddy Nicolas Cage movies, it basically had no chance at the box office. And with just over $10 million in domestic receipts in the box office, less than half of Cage's January release "Season of the Witch," that's exactly what it got.
I understand why people stayed away, but I'm here to tell you, "Drive Angry" is well worth a Friday night rental. It's a saucy little exploitation picture, with a feisty, well-cast Cage as a man possessed. Remember when Nicolas Cage was the guy who played the awkward everyman nerd in action movies?...

Drive Angry 3D (3D Blu-ray/Blu-Ray)Summit Home Entertainment2011/Rated R/109 minsList Price: $34.99 – Now AvailableWait, wasn't Nicolas Cage just in a movie? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot who I was writing about. I've said it many times before, I can forgive Cage for making so many bad movies, because more often than not, he makes solid, entertaining films. Forget the National Treasures and the Ghost Riders, small gems like Matchstick Men and Bad Lieutenant are the types of unconventional flicks most name actors wouldn't have the confidence to sign up for. You've gotta give Cage credit as well. Hit or miss, the guy's a bold risk taker, the kind of actor whose willing to bet his career just to be experimental and have a little fun in the process. At this point, I think it's safe to say Cage has reached a peak where his career is safe no matter what he does.

Chicago – One goes into a 3D film called “Drive Angry” with Nicolas Cage with different expectations. Just as you don’t judge “Piranha 3D” on the same scale as “The King’s Speech,” “Drive Angry” should be judged on what it sets out to do — offer ridiculous, over-the-top, B-movie entertainment. On that level, it works.
Blu-Ray Rating: 3.0/5.0
“Drive Angry” is a movie about violence, vengeance, and really fast cars. Cage gives a relatively lackluster performance (he’s actually the worst thing about the movie), but the chaos that swirls around him is entertaining enough to get the movie across the finish line in style. Cage plays Milton, a maniac who escapes from Hell and becomes undead vengeance when a cult leader named Jonah King kills his daughter and kidnaps his granddaughter. A lovely waitress (Amber Heard) gets caught up in the mess and, of course, Hell sends someone (a movie-stealing...

[Note: This review was taken from Jason Bene's 3D viewing of theatrical release, and while his views remain the same, this Blu-ray review is for the 2D version only.]
The Film:
Anyone who saw My Bloody Valentine in theaters will tell you nothing compares to the awesomeness that was director Patrick Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer’s re-imagining of the Canadian slasher My Bloody Valentine. It was such a risk remaking a flick that is loved by horror fans everywhere. They improved upon George Mihalka’s 1981 heart-wrencher with more gore, more T & A, and they even added all-around bad-ass Tom Atkins (Maniac Cop, Night of the Creeps) to the 3D experience that was so eye-popping amazing, that I stayed in my seat right until the credits ended.
Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a man who has escaped from the abyss of Hades to avenge the death of his daughter and save his kidnapped granddaughter from the man who is responsible for both – cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke) – who plans on sacrificing the child under the moon in order to bring forth hell on Earth.

"Ridiculous flick with more action in 5 mins than story in 90 mins" Not exactly a stamp you want to show up on your Blu-ray case, but exactly what should have been expected. I hope that nobody expected Drive Angry to be a well laid out plot driven film. Of course with Nicolas Cage leading the charge it’s probably safe to assume that we all knew exactly what this one would turn out like....
Story takes a backseat in this gasoline charged action flick that features an escapee from hell, a well dressed demon and Amber Heard’s hot pants. I certainly wasn’t heading into this one so I could ponder the meaning of heaven and hell so the endless amounts of car chases, gunfights and explosions entertained me perfectly. The story is painfully simple and gets little explanation anyway. Cage is Milton, a man who has escaped from hell...

Drive Angry 3D
Directed by: Patrick Lussier
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner, Billy Burke
Running Time: 1 hr 44 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: February 25, 2011
Plot: A father (Cage) escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter.
Who’S It For? If you want gratuitous, then sign up for Drive Angry. You might not feel good about yourself for liking it, but it’s good over-the-top action.
Overall
Know what you are. Take yourself up a notch and separate yourself from the group. That’s exactly what Drive Angry 3D does. A man escapes … from a type of prison. Actually, describing Nic Cage as just “a man” doesn’t cut it. Cage brings God awful hair and a full commitment no matter how cheesy or clichéd the line of dialogue is. But don’t worry about the cheese, this film has awareness.

I'll say this much for Drive Angry: It doesn't fuck around. It doesn't waste time pretending to be something that it's not. In fact, it doesn't really waste time, period. It gives you only the barest hint of an introduction, and then it puts its foot to the floor and takes off gleefully into a burst of guns, gore, tits and unrepentant violence. Directed by Patrick Lussier (who co-wrote it with Todd Farmer), it must have been the world's shortest script and one of the easiest to write. It's an hour and forty-five minutes of unapologetic, shitkicking, brain-shelving stupidity. It's also a hell of a lot of fun.
For what its worth, there is a story to Drive Angry: Nicolas Cage plays John Milton (natch), a dead man who escaped from Hell (not a metaphorical one, the actual hell) in a '64 Buick Riviera loaded with guns. He's seeking out a smarmy,...

Add this as another contribution to the vengeance genre, centering on a hard, bitter, tormented man, burdened by hatred and intent on revenge.
John Milton (Nicolas Cage) is a murderer, escaped not only from jail but also from Hell. Perhaps because he deserted his only daughter when she was a teenager, he's distraught that she joined a Satanic cult and was brutally killed by its leader, Jonah King (Billy Burke, a.k.a.: Bella's dad in the "Twilight" franchise), who kidnapped her baby girl - Milton's granddaughter - whom he plans to ritually sacrifice at the next full moon.

New 'Drive Angry 3D' movie delivered good action with crazy storyline. Summit Entertainment released their new action/drama flick "Drive Angry 3D" into theaters this weekend. I just watched it,and thought it was a blast to watch. It delivered a ton of action scenes, along with a very odd storyline. I'm still trying to figure out all the details of it. The movie stars: Nicolas Cage, William Fichtner, Amber Heard, Billy Burke, Simona Williams, and Katy Mixon. "Drive Angry 3D" revolved around character Milton (Nicolas Cage) who's a very tough ex-con that is on the trail to retrieve his granddaughter before she's sacrificed by some sort of crazy cult, led by a guy named Jonah King (Twilight Saga's Billy Burke). Milton eventually runs into a very beautiful girl named Piper (Amber Heard) when her car breaks down on the side of the road. He agrees to fix...

Drive Angry 3D
Starring Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard and William Fichtner
Directed by Patrick Lussier
Rated R
The most surprising thing about Drive Angry 3D is that somehow it almost works. It has all of the earmarks of a typical lackluster Nicolas Cage "paycheck" movie - ridiculous plot, terrible wig, cheesy dialogue, over-the-top action - and yet the film is self-aware enough to embrace its B-movie status and to just have fun with it. At times, it shows the potential to be a fun modern-day exploitation film, but it never quite comes together and in the end it's sadly just another bad Nicolas Cage film.
Cage plays John Milton (a clever nod to Paradise Lost that you frankly don't expect in a film like this), a man who breaks out of prison to rescue his granddaughter from being ritualistically killed by a satanic cult leader named Jonah King (Billy Burke). Along the way,...

A surly loner jumps behind the wheel of his souped-up hot road, one hand clutching a sawed-off shotgun, the other gripping the wheel, and charges down a lonely desert highway, looking for revenge. This premise has been utilized in many action flicks over the years from Robert Mitchum in Thunder Road to Mel Gibson in the Mad Max trilogy. The steely eyed driver this time is Nicolas Cage-he’s avenging the departed and racing against the clock to save a life. Oh, also the proceedings are shot in eye-popping in your face 3D. Hopefully those glasses will protect us from the gravel.
Prior to the opening title we’re thrust into a fiery landscape down a highway supported by collapsing bridges while an unseen narrator lectures us on prisons ( while liberally dropping f-bombs ). Suddenly we’re back on Earth as three lowlifes in a pick-up are run down by...

Do you see that man above? You may know him from The Dark Knight, Black Hawk Down, and Armageddon. That is William Fichtner and this skilled character actor out-Cages Nicolas Cage in Patrick Lussier‘s grindhouse throwback Drive Angry 3D. While his 2009 slasher My Blood Valentine 3D delivered the goods, this next logical step should have Cage dominating in an all-out jubilation of depravity.
Although he sports a hell of a wig, Cage unfortunately plays it subdued. The first act hints this may not be the case, including a gore-filled opening and an abnormal make-out session with Eastbound & Down‘s Katy Mixon. But as the story piles on, it becomes apparent this is not the Bad Lieutenant/Kick-Ass-esque performance you were expecting.

"A vengeful father escapes from hell and chases after the men who killed his daughter and kidnapped his granddaughter." This antiseptic description from IMDb fails to capture the hellacious power of 2011's first truly awesome grindhouse action flick.
Drive Angry 3D inhabits a fantastic world where Hell is envisioned as a literal prison for the souls of the damned who are forced to witness the suffering of their loved ones. Nicolas Cage plays John Milton, a character not unlike Todd McFarlane's Spawn, who steals "The Godkiller" and leaves Hell to hunt down Satanic cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke) and save his grandchild. Along the way, he picks up Piper (Amber Heard), his partner in ass-kicking, while being pursued by The Accountant (William Fichtner). David Morse later turns up as Milton's best friend, Webster (Daniel perhaps?).

If you're a fan of Nicolas Cage's crazy antics, jaw-dropping violence, fast cars and other assorted forms of purely visceral entertainment, then you have to see "Drive Angry."
Cage stars in Patrick Lussier's hell-driven 3-D revenge flick as John Milton, a bleached-blonde badass with nothing but a focused goal and a bag of guns to his name. Milton is searching for Jonah King (Billy Burke), a dangerous Satan worshipper who murdered his daughter and kidnapped her baby with the intention of sacrificing her to the forces of Hell. Milton's relentless vengeance quest is assisted by the beautiful and tough-as-nails Piper (Amber Heard) and hindered by The Accountant (William Fichtner), one of the devil's closest advisors.
For adrenaline junkies and Cage enthusiasts, "Drive Angry" is a must-see. Period, end of discussion, no excuses. But if you need further convincing, click past the jump for five reasons you need to see this film.

3D has been out of control for some time now and I accuse the fake versions that were shot flat and converted in post-production for the over-saturation in the market. Bow your heads in shame for selling moviegoers short by going the ghetto route to try and make a buck. I am pointing directly at you Alice in Wonderland, Clash of the Titans, and Piranha. For the studios who do it the right way and go by the book, God bless you. If you did a poll right now asking which film has employed the finest use of 3D technology, most people will vote for that big-budget version of FernGully: The Last Rainforest – Avatar. They are so wrong!
Anyone who saw My Bloody Valentine in theaters will tell you nothing compares to the awesomeness that was director Patrick Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer’s re-imagining of the Canadian slasher My Bloody Valentine.

Cigars, whiskey, sunglasses, a naked waitress straddling a clothed, but unzipped Nic Cage, the line “I never disrobe before gunplay”, gunplay, sex, sex and gunplay and whiskey and cigars at the same time. This is the sort of thing you will find in Drive Angry, the newest film in Nic Cage’s long and illustrious oeuvre, and this is just one scene. This film, like Robert Rodriguez’ Machete and Alejandre Aja’s Pirhana remake from last year, is deeply indebted to the grindhouse exploitation films of the 1970s, with a little bit of John Carpenter-style comedy-horror thrown in for good measure. I know some people are probably a little fed up with the recent splurge of studio films attempting to be “so bad they’re good”, but Drive Angry is mercifully free of artificial print damage and intentionally visible boom mics. Director Patrick Lussier fortunately seems more interested in...

While chatting with actor Billy Burke last night on the red carpet at the premiere of Drive Angry 3D in Hollywood, CA (see our extensive coverage of that here), we touched briefly on the other genre project in which he’s involved--namely, the currently in-production Twilight Saga films Breaking Dawn Parts 1 and 2.
Said Burke (who plays the villainous ‘Jonah King’ in Drive Angry and Bella’s rather earnest father ‘Charlie Swan’ in the vastly popular Twilight Saga), “I leave on Sunday to go to Vancouver (to commence shooting). I’ve been back and forth to Baton Rouge doing little bits and pieces.”
As for what Twilight fans can expect of his character’s arc in the sequels (which are being directed back-to-back by filmmaker Bill Condon), “Well, a lot happens in the final installment,” Burke told us, “because (my character of ‘Charlie’) finally is clued in to what’s been going on the entire time.

Movies that know exactly what they are and what their strengths are endear themselves to me, and the unashamedly raucous and silly Drive Angry (or Drive Angry 3D as it is officially titled) has a highly entertaining B movie heart wrapped in ‘A’ budget and 3D clothes. Reveling in its greasy ’70s occult and road movie exploitation roots, without slavishly recreating them in the manner of Tarantino’s and Rodriguez’s Grindhouse, Drive Angry is a wonderfully schlocky ride that never takes itself seriously.
Milton (Nicolas Cage) has escaped from hell to save his granddaughter from the clutches of a hillbilly satanic cult, led by the messianic Jonah King (Twilight‘s Billy Burke, coming on like the bastard love child of Billy Bob Thornton and Timothy Olyphant, if that makes any sense). Needing a lift to his destination, Milton hooks up with gorgeous coffee shop waitress Piper (Amber Heard), who...

Dread hit the red carpet premiere of Summit Entertainment’s Drive Angry 3D (releasing wide this Friday, February the 25th) last night at the Arclight in Hollywood, CA, and brought back some ocular candy and video from the event (see our interview with star Nic Cage below) as well as interviews with the flick’s principal cast and crew.
The film, co-written by Todd Farmer and Patrick Lussier (and directed by the latter), revolves around ‘Milton’ (Cage), a hardened felon who, in a chance for redemption, breaks out of hell (literally) in order to save his granddaughter from the vicious cult that murdered his own daughter. Joining him in this dubious escapade is actress Amber Heard as a waitress who donates her ex-boyfriend’s cherry-red muscle car and skills in an effort to thwart the cult and their leader, ‘Jonah King’ (actor Billy Burke). Drive Angry 3D is filled with a great sense of its own silliness with director Patrick Lussier crafting a demented, gory and knowing homage to b-movie horror shows. It’s brash, crass, loud and thoroughly enjoyable. In many ways the kind of 1970s-inspired low rent flick that might have fitted neatly into the Grindhouse label given its penchant for thrills and chills with a pulp fiction heart.
Nicolas Cage plays John Milton (bit of a tired literary reference there), a bad ass ex-con who has busted out of Hell to rescue his granddaughter (yeah, Cage is playing granddaddies now) from the clutches of Jonah King (Billy Burke), a self-styled religious guru who worships Satan with his demented and dedicated clan of psychos. Oh and Milton’s daughter, before King murdered her, bit off his Johnson. Nice.

With his recent glut of increasingly low-rent cinematic forays – culminating in the almost unbearably dull Season of the Witch – combined with the blatantly obvious fact that he’s only making them to stave off bankruptcy, Nicolas Cage may well have subjected himself to a whole new subgenre of filmmaking – Cagesploitation.
Drive Angry 3D pits Cage as the ridiculously-monikered Milton, a man who has broken out of Hell in order to save his baby granddaughter from being sacrificed to a Satanic cult, led by the man who murdered his daughter, Jonah King (Billy Burke). Teaming up with tasty waitress Piper (Amber Heard), Milton must put the cult to an end while outrunning the advances of The Accountant (William Fichtner), an envoy of Satan sent to Earth in order to return Milton to Hell.

This new Drive Angry 3D TV spot is Nsfw (Not Safe For Work) but unfortunately, not for the same reasons this last clip was.
