Anthrax played their first show with original bassist Dan Lilker in 40 years on Saturday, April 13th, in Mexico City.
Lilker is filling in on Anthrax’s South American run and Spring 2024 US festival dates for Frank Bello, who is sitting out the shows due to “personal reasons.” The band kicked of the itinerary in Mexico City at Mxmf The Metal Fest, running through a 12-song set that leaned heavily on Anthrax’s most popular songs.

Lilker co-founded Anthrax in 1981 as the band’s original bassist and occasional guitarist. He co-wrote and performed on Anthrax’s 1984 debut Fistful of Metal before parting ways with Scott Ian and company. Original Anthrax bassist Dan Lilker has been tapped to fill in for Frank Bello on the band’s upcoming tour dates, marking a return to the the legendary thrash act after exiting 40 years ago.
According to a press release, Bello will not accompany the band on its upcoming South American shows and US festival dates due to “personal reasons.” The US festival appearances include Welcome to Rockville on May 9th in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Sonic Temple on May 17th in Columbus, Ohio.

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian celebrated his 60th birthday on December 31st with an “epic” party featuring a number of his musician friends participating in a 42-song all-star jam. Among the highlights was Alice in Chains singer-guitarist Jerry Cantrell belting out the Billy Joel classic “You May Be Right.”
The festivities at Galpin Speed Shop in Van Nuys, California, got underway when Ian entered the venue as a passenger in a Batmobile as Slayer’s “Raining Blood” played over the P.A. system.
