Update, with landing President Donald Trump exited the White House this morning on a red carpet, boarding Marine One to Joint Base Andrews where he took Air Force One to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, his final use of the presidential aircraft permitted only because he bucked tradition by leaving town before the inauguration of the incoming president.
After a 21-gun salute and “Hail To the Chief” blared through loudspeakers at Joint Base Andrews, Trump greeted a small crowd of invited guests including his children, their spouses, staffers Mark Meadows and Stephen Miller, among others, then gave a short speech in which he listed what he considers his administration’s achievements.
He ended his address with, “So have a good life, we’ll see you soon.” (Air Force One landed at Palm Beach International Airport at 10:54 a.m. Et.)

Jake Tapper, the Washington-based correspondent for CNN, will likely get a new spotlight at the network after it said it would expand his weekday program to two hours and make him the lead anchor for all Washington events. The move is part of a broader shakeup of the cable-news outlet’s Washington coverage, which has taken over more of its schedule in the last few months of the Trump administration.
As part of the changes, Abby Phillip will take over as anchor of the weekend broadcast of “Inside Politics,” while Dana Bash will co-anchor the Sunday talk program “State of the Union” with Tapper. Tapper and Bash will each anchor two Sundays a month, beginning January 24th.

Photo: Saturday Night Live Post-Election Show/NBC Social media went into a frenzy, and millions anticipated with excitement Saturday Night Live’s post-election show, with the Foo Fighters as the musical guest, and Dave Chappelle hosting. The very day Joe Biden was announced as the next President of the United States, SNL aired the last episode of its historic 6 show run. The cold open started with CNN’s announcement of Joe Biden’s presidential-elect win, with Beck Bennett playing Wolf Blitzer and Alex Moffat playing John King, they playfully celebrated the recent news. Jim Carrey then walks out on stage as Joe Biden, and comes out with his usual solid jokes “We just kept inching closer and closer, it was like having sex with sting!” and then even paying homage to his famous character, Ace Ventura. When “Saturday Night Live” took a break from comedy following the 2016 election to have Kate McKinnon’s Hillary Clinton perform a piano rendition of “Hallelujah,” the reaction was divisive — the cold open was either saccharine or a moving tribute. On Saturday, “SNL” showed it was willing to poke fun at itself when Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump sat down in front of a piano in response to the election being called for Joe Biden.
Saturday’s cold open, performed about 12 hours after Biden was declared president-elect, assembled a cast of characters that had become all too familiar during this election week. There was a perpetually awake Wolf Blitzer, played by Beck Bennett, and Alex Moffat’s John King, whose fingers had been reduced to nubs thanks to 85-straight hours of operating CNN’s touchscreen electoral map.

President Donald Trump sang a sad, sad swan song in the Saturday Night Live episode that aired barely 12 hours after Joe Biden (finally) won the election.
The cold open saw CNN’s Wolf Blitzer (played by Beck Bennett) — after he checked in on stump-fingered map-a-magician John King (Alex Moffat) — admit that more than wanting to see Biden and running mate Sen. Kamala Harris (Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph) celebrate, people “also want to see Trump sad,” so he threw to what he eye-rolled would be Potus’ “gracious and factual” concession speech.

As votes in this barnburner of a 2020 election continue to be tallied, President Donald Trump on Thursday evening made a televised statement in which he rattled off numerous unfounded claims of voting fraud in the 2020 election. And cable news hosts by and large weren’t having any of it.
“What a sad night for the United States of America, to hear the president… falsely accuse people of trying to steal the election,” said CNN’s Jake Tapper, coming right out of Trump’s appearance. “It’s not true, it’s ugly, it’s frankly pathetic.”

Late-night hosts including Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, Conan O’Brien, Trevor Noah and Samantha Bee all urged patience as the ballot-counting process continues.
While they were all recorded earlier today, ranging between 11am to 5pm, the message remains as voters wait for ballots to be counted in key states including Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
The Tonight Show’s Jimmy Fallon said today felt like “waking up with a hangover and finding out you’re still at the bar.”
“As we speak some states are still counting the votes. Somehow Chucky Cheese can count a million tickets on the spot, but we still can’t count the votes in three days,” Fallon said. “I’m not sure [patience] is one of America’s strengths, if a TikTok video isn’t fun in the first three seconds, we’re like ‘next’. As Election Night wore on, and on, and on, cable news outlets from Fox to MSNBC made sure to remind their viewers that this race wouldn’t be the usual sprint, but an exhaustive (and exhausting) marathon. Typically ready to call races as soon as possible, networks remained relatively committed to caution as millions of mail-in votes tallied up, urging viewers to hold off on judgment until they could more accurately see the bigger picture. If you’re someone who watches even a little cable news, this noticeable shift in presentation has been genuinely disorienting. The calls for caution represent a remarkable show of restraint by outlets built on making everything seem like everything is breaking all the time always — and that’s exactly why cable news as we know it today just isn’t made for a moment like this.

President Trump was going to make a speech from the White House about the 2020 election, a process so unique and unprecedented that, at well past 2 in the morning eastern time, no news organization could predict who was going to be the winner. Before he got on camera, however, Norah O’Donnell had something to impart to her viewers.
“We at CBS News are not projecting in this presidential race. We will not disenfranchise the millions of voters in those battleground states and the hundreds of thousands in Georgia who also have not had their votes counted,” said O’Donnell, speaking during CBS News coverage of the election well after most viewers normally watch her on “CBS Evening News.” Moments later, as Trump spoke, anchors on NBC, MSNBC and CNBC broke into his comments — during which he falsely claimed he had won the election despite millions of votes left uncounted – – and Savannah Guthrie,...

MSNBC’s election night coverage featured a bevy of the cable newser’s all-stars, including Rachel Maddow, Brian Williams, Joy Reid and Nicolle Wallace. But, as was clear to anyone watching Tuesday night, the breakout of the evening was political correspondent Steve Kornacki, master of the interactive touchscreen map that has become a staple of TV news political coverage.
Every network has someone in this role. On CNN, for instance, John King has long served as master of the interactive electoral map. But none brings to the job the Charlie Kelly “Sweet Dee Has a Heart Attack” vibe that Kornacki does, with his shirt sleeves and striped necktie.

On Election Night, CNN dispatched its spirited primetime anchors to host shows in daytime and late-night, and reserved 7 p.m. on for analysis, analysis, analysis.
John King emerged as an early and heavy presence on CNN, working his regular shift at the network’s signature “Magic Wall,” but this year, he is armed with caveats. Nearly every other phrase out of King’s mouth this year is one urging viewers to be patient, using phrases like “this is early,” “I just want to caution you,” “if it holds,” and “we will check back later in the night.”
Part of that is a feature of this year’s Election Night preparation at CNN. The network, like many of its rivals, wants to make sure viewers understand where the vote is heading and why, using graphics representing how many votes were cast early, how many are left to come in, and more...

Jon Stewart praised CNN’s John King Monday for asking Newt Gingrich about his wife’s "open marriage" accusation in last week's Gop debate. But then he saw King caved to the former House Speaker. Stewart, as is often the case, had to play catch up on the news, unable to discuss Monday night’s Gop debate because his show taped too early. Instead, he discussed Saturday’s South Carolina primary, where, shocking Stewart, Gingrich won with ease. That prompted Stewart to try and figure out how Gingrich took his campaign off life support for a second...
