[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for NCIS Season 21 Episode 7 “A Thousand Yards.”] For a milestone as major as the franchise’s 1,000th episode, NCIS pulls out all the stops, from guest stars (LA‘s Daniela Ruah as Kensi! Hawai’i‘s Vanessa Lachey as Jane! Joe Spano as Fornell!) to Easter eggs (like connections in the case to dead characters like Tom Morrow and Kate Todd and it all linking back to the mothership’s very first investigation). It also starts off by putting one of the agency’s own in the hospital. While visiting his late wife’s grave and then having an awkward, tense conversation with his son, Jared (Spence Moore II), Director Vance (Rocky Carroll) is shot by a sniper. While Carroll, speaking with TV Insider for our weekly aftershow, NCIS: Case Closed, never worried about being killed off, he does recall of the initial conversation he had with the episode’s writer,...

No. No, no, no, no, no. Just no. Whoever thought the plot of NCIS Season 15 Episode 18 was a good idea... just no. Wait a minute: this one was authored by none other than Christopher J. Waild!
It's not often that I call out screenwriters, but this same Mr. Waild was behind two of this season's weaker entries, NCIS Season 15 Episode 3, "Exit Strategy," and NCIS Season 15 Episode 10, "Double Down."
Both the aforementioned episodes required multiple characters to make mind-bogglingly poor decisions in order for the plot to unfold. "Death From Above" featured not just that but the protagonists being defeated by their own defense measures!
By the time the credits rolled, I seriously wanted to take this story and throw it into the burning pile in the evidence garage.

A father and son discover a body in the stream where they are fishing and trying to endure the outing despite a strained relationship. The body found is that of Tyler Wilkes, a reporter who made his way dishing dirt on government agencies and military operations. Borin’s people have no luck finding a wreckage, but McGee and Tony manage to recover the body of the missing pilot, apparently killed from a gunshot wound. With the mobile crime scene unavailable for forensic analysis, the team must determine if the accident was caused by a treacherous passenger or if the pilot himself was to blame.
