Gravitas Ventures has acquired North American rights All About Sex, the first directorial feature for up-and-comer Dakota Gorman, who wrote the comedy, which is loosely based on her own experiences battling depression and the general anxieties that accompany aging youth. Gorman also stars alongside Natalee Linez, Emma Deckers, Dillon Lane, Matt Angel and Chris Costanzo.
The generational film follows the lives of three mid-20’s friends — Sage (Gorman), Casey (Linez), and Morgan (Deckers)– caught in the grip of quarter-life crises as they meander through the messy, embarrassing and confusing pitfalls that come with “adulting”.
All About Sex hails from Salt & Light Films in association with Warrior Woman Productions. Nicole Rio and Kelly Bumford produced, while Carlos George and Ken Johnson served as executive producers. Myriad Pictures will distribute the film internationally and will present the film to international buyers at EFM.

"One, two, three...!" Freestyle Digital Media has released a trailer for an indie dramedy film titled Teenage Badass, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Grant McCord. This was supposed to premiere at the SXSW Film Festival earlier this year before it was cancelled, and will now launch on VOD in the fall. Set in 2006, Teenage Badass follows a band when they score a shot to play on the local news. But as all of their dreams start to become a reality, the band's egocentric singer / songwriter threatens to make them lose everything they have worked for. The story actually follows the drummer, played by Mcabe Gregg; and the lead singer Kirk Stylo is played by Evan Ultra. Also starring Julie Ann Emery, Kevin Corrigan, James Paxton, Madelyn Deutch, Elsie Hewitt, and Dillon Lane. The tone in this trailer is all over the place, and it seems like just some...

Before Sundance gets underway, SXSW has unveiled the first wave of their film lineup. This year’s slate includes Judd Apatow’s Pete Davidson-led comedy The King of Staten Island, a new Spike Jonze-directed Beastie Boys documentary, an intriguing new film by Amy Seimetz, and more.
There’s also The Lovebirds, directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) and starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, whose comedic stylings coalesce astoundingly well in the first trailer. The duo play Leilani and Jibran, a couple who are accidentally embroiled in a murder mystery as a man claiming to be a cop commits murder with their car and leaves them with the evidence.
Ahead of a release on April 3, see the trailer below, followed by the SXSW 2020 lineup.

The 27th edition of the SXSW Film Festival will feature a romantic caper starring Issa Rae and Kumail Nanjiani, a documentary about the Beastie Boys directed by Spike Jonze, a “hidden camera” comedy headlined by Tiffany Haddish and an autobiographical studio vehicle from Pete Davidson.
Thousands of moviegoers will flock to Austin, Texas, starting on March 13 for the annual gathering, which is a launching pad for major summer — or spring — studio releases, as well as smaller independent films and buzzy TV shows.
“King of Staten Island,” which stars Davidson, will open the fest. The movie is directed by Judd Apatow, who is no stranger to SXSW, having brought many of his hit projects — from “Knocked Up” to “Bridesmaids” — to screen first at SXSW.
Other high-profile titles that will premiere in Austin include “The Lovebirds,” a comedy from Michael Showalter, with Rae and Nanjiani trying to solve a murder mystery; “Bad Trip,...

Even the lowly jump scare can be a source of pleasure. But at its most mechanical, this least imaginative of stock devices in current horror cinema elicits less fright than annoyance — rather like a repetitive, low-level electric shock, one just potent enough to rate as an irritant.
Ninety minutes of that feeling adds up to “Countdown,” a bombastically dumb new chiller that probably would have been called “Killer App” if that title hadn’t already been used several times. That doesn’t stop every other idea here from being well-worn, and it likely won’t stop writer-director Justin Dec’s debut feature from pulling in moderately decent returns as it opens the weekend before Halloween. But .

There are many things no one should do in a horror movie if they want to live — run back inside the house that holds the killer, have sex, play that haunted video tape, the list goes on — including a classic ripe for contemporary reinvention: Don’t play that weirdo parlor game. Bloody Mary is a bad idea, so is the Ouija board, and Light As a Feather Stiff As a Board has never led to anything good. Why not move that concept into a more modern space? Films about killer smartphones are hardly anything new, from “One Missed Call” to “Cell,” Skype-based offshoots like “Unfriended,” and even the forgettable “Jexi,” which came out in theaters mere weeks ago. But what about a movie about a killer app? “Countdown” fills that questionable void.

Okay, guys! It’s time to find out which young male star is better than the rest. Who do you think is the next Big Thing and deserves the title of Best Rising Male Star 2012!? The Disney Channel and Nickelodeon always seem to get it right. Many of their child actors end up making it big, but nothing’s guaranteed! Will Jake Austin from Wizards of Waverly Place be the next Star? How about Shake It Up stars Kenton Duty and Roshon Fegan? Perhaps adorable Jason Dolley from Good Luck Charlie? Or Bucket & Skinner’s lead actors, Dillon Lane & Taylor Gray?
We’ve put together a list of twenty rising male stars and are throwing a contest to determine who is the Best. The contest will be split into two rounds. Round One will feature all twenty nominees! Then, we will narrow the nominees down to the top ten, who...
