Right fielder for Houston Astros (1996-1997), Philadelphia Phillies
(1998-2006), and New York Yankees (2006-present)
National League All-Star in 2004.
Following the 1997 season, he was selected by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays
in the expansion draft, then traded to the Philadelphia Phillies for
shortstop Kevin Stocker.
In 2001, he hit 31 home runs and stole 36 bases, becoming the first
player in Phillies history (and first MLB player born in Venezuela) to
have a 30/30 season. He accomplished the feat again in 2004 when he hit
30 home runs and stole 40 bases.
