True crime meets telenovela in Maria Frederiksson’s enthralling feature documentary debut. When Frederiksson got the call from a Norwegian woman who talked to her of a miracle that took place, little did she realise what story she would finally end up with, but the resulting tale is documentary gold. To say that truth is stranger than fiction would be a massive understatement when talking about The Gullspång Miracle.
The initial storyline is of two devout Christian sisters, May and Kari. May is on holiday visiting Kari in Sweden. “It all starts with the whale,” says one of them. The whale in question is a ride at a theme park where May breaks her tailbone and has to stay in town. Looking for an apartment where she can recuperate, she comes across a painting hanging in a kitchen. That painting (actually a framed cross-stitch piece) leads her to impulsively take on the lease.

The amusement park water ride that figures in the introductory minutes of The Gullspang Miracle doesn’t begin to suggest the wild emotional roller coaster that the film is about to unfurl. Contacted by two 60-something sisters who had made a thrilling discovery — an older sibling, someone whose existence they’d never suspected — director Maria Fredriksson became a confidant to all three women as well as the chronicler of their seesawing attitudes toward the unexpected kinship. The resulting work, her first feature-length documentary, is an astounding and cleverly structured exploration of serendipity, faith, social divisions, family ties and personal identity. It delves into some of the same themes that made Three Identical Strangers such compelling viewing, but its canvas is one-of-a-kind, a vigorous mix that also encompasses a haunting unsolved crime, complete with Lynchian echoes of Twin Peaks.
Fredriksson doesn’t hide her role in the telling of this complex story.

Maria Fredriksson’s astonishing feature debut The Gullspång Miracle isn’t just stranger than fiction—it’s batshit insane. In the broadest of outlines, the doc stars two devoutly religious Norwegian sisters, Kari and May. May visits Kari in Gullspång, Sweden, where Kari now lives. They go to an amusement park where they take a ride inside a fake whale. May finds herself stuck in Sweden for many months, so the two decide to go shopping for an apartment, and end up buying one based on a divine sign they witness there. At the closing, they meet the seller Olaug (formerly known as Lita), […]

Match #1: The Brawling Brutes def. Imperium The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Only six days after his brutal Triple Threat Match at WrestleMania, Intercontinental Champion Gunther once again squared off with one of his opponents that night, Sheamus. Butch, like always, started like a house on fire, lighting up Giovanni Vinci with strikes. Butch did not let up on Vinci, using joint manipulation to pick apart Vinci with ease. As Gunther and Sheamus were jaw-jacking, Butch became distracted, allowing Ludwig Kaiser to assist Vinci in dropping Butch with a tremendous suplex. As the match broke down, Holland bouldered through Kaiser, lifting him up and dropping him with an Alabama Slam. The strength from Holland backfired as all three members of Imperium...

Welcome to this review of this past Monday’s episode of WWE Raw, right here on Nerdly… This week’s show is the overly-hyped “First Raw After Wrestlemania”, which usually holds some surprises, so let’s get into it!
Match #1: Omos def. Elias The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Wanting to enact retribution after his loss to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania, Omos took out his frustrations on Elias. The Nigerian Giant, looking to make an example, completely dismantled Elias, planting him with a devastating slam to end Elias’ night.
My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Austin Theory def. Rey Mysterio The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Both victors at WrestleMania, Rey Mysterio and Austin Theory went toe-to-toe in the ring. Mysterio hit the United States Champion with a spellbinding crossbody from the second rope. Theory looked to have the match won after he planted Mysterio with a modified blue thunder bomb,...

Welcome to this review of night one of WWE’s Wrestlemania 39 pay-per-view which came live from Hollywood. Let’s see what went down on Saturday’s show…
Match #1: Austin Theory def. John Cena The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
The past met the future as John Cena challenged Austin Theory for Cena’s signature title, the United States Championship. It was the youngster who defeated his childhood idol to kick off WrestleMania 39. Cena toyed with Theory to start, but it only enraged the champion who responded by biting the 16-time World Champion’s ear. After an impressive few minutes from Theory, Cena locked in an Stf submission, but Theory again used his teeth to break the hold. Theory countered the AA and nailed a Ddt, later locking in a sleeper hold, but Cena fought out. After a few shoulder tackles, Cena hit his signature Five Knuckle Shuffle, but...

Becky G kicked off WWE WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in California in Inglewood — the first time in some 18 years since it has been held in California — with a resonating performance of “America the Beautiful.”
The Inglewood native took to the ring in a strappy, sequined blue-and-black number to belt the anthemic tune, as a screen showed the American flag waving in the wind. Becky G was also made an honorary Latino World Order (Lwo) member.

World Wrestling Entertainment has had plenty of dominant characters over the past 50 years, but Roman Reigns continues to set his own path.
When Reigns faces Cody Rhodes on Sunday in the main event of WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, it will be his 944th consecutive day as champion, the sixth-longest title reign in the company’s history.
“You set goals and have visions of where you view yourself and what you’d like to accomplish. But, I couldn’t have written the past three years any better,” Reigns said during an interview with The Associated Press. “It feels good to come from a wrestling family that has been performers for a long time. To represent such a prestigious title reign at the tippity top of the mountain, there’s no comparison.”
