Even when she’s twerking produce into a grocery cart or dropping it like it’s hot, Atsuko Okatsuka has the unique ability to maintain a somewhat innocent sense of whimsy in everything she does. Her primary-colored comedy special, Atsuko Okatsuka: The Intruder, which premiered Dec. 10 on HBO Max, features perhaps the most heartwarming story of family bonding ever told in context of attending Magic Mike Live in Las Vegas.
Okatsuka’s family members — most notably her grandmother and her husband, actor Ryan Harper Gray — figure prominently not just in The Intruder (directed by one of the comic’s stand-up idols, Tig Notaro) but also in her robust social media presence, which spawned a worldwide viral sensation earlier this year with #dropchallenge, inadvertently started in January by Okatsuka.

Comedian Atsuko Okatsuka is bringing her twerk-friendly funny to Quibi with the woke Japanese game show appropriately titled Let’s Go Atsuko! from National Lampoon and PalmStar Media.
In the new series, Game master Okatsuka will lead two civilian contestants through the surreal universe inside her grandma’s fridge. In every episode, each contestant — perhaps unwisely — will tell Okatsuka one thing they love and one thing they fear. These facts can and will be used against them to create tailor-made challenges that test the players’ “street smarts.”
The forthcoming series for the short-form streaming platform shares the name of her weekly podcast on the Forever Dog network and monthly live show at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles. Past guests include Andy Richter, Aparna Nancherla, Lauren Lapkus, Nicole Byer, Guy Branum, Nik Dodani, Aparna Nancherla, Wyatt Cenac, Judah Friedlander, Sasheer Zamata, Baron Vaughn, among others.

Missouri: I love the state I was born in / I hate the state I was born in. Like many environments around the world, even places that seem tranquil or picturesque on the exterior can hide places, people and situations far from pleasant and uplifting. If viewers are clamoring for a picture postcard view of Missouri, please look elsewhere. ‘Ghosts of the Empire Prairie’ doesn’t shy away from some of the nastier, more disturbing aspects of the state and its rural folks. The filmmaker, Blake Eckard has a formidable track record in creating stories shot on very small budgets. However, not having a plethora of money to play around with does not always make for a superb film, of course.
Director, Eckard knows how to bring forth essential elements within the story which effectively highlight what’s important.
The film’s main character, Lonnie Enright, returns...
