Welcome back to Celebrity Twitterwatch, where we distill the world of social media down to a few snarky pages of what celebrities said over the course of the week. Because as you know, the only things that matter are what the beautiful people say.
Cheyenne Jackson is easily once of the most handsome men on the planet, so as far as his glasses went, I always considered them sort of a Clark Kent-disguise he used so that mere mortals he encountered in real life wouldn't feel so intimidated by his good looks. But among his peers, like his handsome husband, maybe the spectacles need to be a little more fashionable. That's what happens when you get married, they stop telling you your butt doesn't look big in those jeans or that your glasses are cute.
Also trying out a new look is Glee's Mark Salling,...

I know the general rule in a polite society is "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all." But somehow, I didn't think that applied to Anna Wintour. So why, when asked about Kanye West's fashion line, did she respond "Ask someone else."?
The feds are targeting marijuana dispensaries in California for a major raid, sending letters reminding them that federal law trumps state law legalizing medical use. I guess President Obama is giving up the stoner vote.
I wish this clip from the BBC's Bedlam was embeddable, because not only does it have out cutie Will Young, it also has a seriously long look at Theo James in just a towel.
When a straight ally says that if he were gay and joining a biker gang, he'd want to name it Hell's Anals or The Sodomites and The Mangols, do we get upset? I'll let...

Anthony Callea has revealed that he recently collaborated with Black Eyed Peas DJ Poet. The 28-year-old former Australian Idol contestant, who is currently working on his comeback single 'Oh Oh Oh Oh', said that he enjoyed co-writing and recording the song with the producer at his La studio recently. Callea told the Herald Sun: "He is wonderfully loopy in a creative way. We wrote the track in three hours and I sat on the couch with a coffee in one hand and a mic in the other to record my vocals. "He told me Fergie had recorded some of her vocals sitting on the couch so I thought if she could do it, I could." > Anthony Callea joins Lady (more)...

Anthony Callea has revealed that he would "love" to be a judge on the Australian version of The Voice. The 28-year-old former Australian Idol contestant, who is best known for songs such as 'The Prayer' and 'Rain', is rumoured to be in the running as a mentor on the Nine Network reality singing show when it premieres this year. Callea told The Daily Telegraph: "Nothing's confirmed. I can't say much but it is something I would love to do." He added: "I want to see Vanessa Amorosi on the show [too] - Australia has never had a vocalist like her." Callea has been working on his latest album for the last 18 months and reportedly hopes to release it soon. His new material is said to be more of a dance genre than his (more)...

Anthony Callea has revealed that he thinks gay marriage should be legalised in Australia. The Australian musician, who is in a relationship with former Home and Away actor Tim Campbell, joined the gay rights debate initiated by Lady GaGa when she visited Sydney earlier this week. Callea told the Herald Sun: "I just think whether you want to or not, the choice should be there. It's about having the same rights as anyone else and I think it's great what New York has done. Hopefully we'll follow soon." He also said that he was pleased Lady GaGa had visited Australia, saying: "You can either love her or hate her but she's brought excitement back. We need that. It's getting to the point where everything is quite formulated and there's someone who is not afraid to do what she wants. It's (more)...

I'll give it to the Log Cabin Republicans, they have been persistent and successful fighting Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and yesterday they scored a victory by having the stay of the judgment blocking enforcement lifted, halting any and all discharges under the policy, unless President Obama appeals.
Should we be counting it as a victory that the National Enquirer is gossiping about gay celebrities just like any other? Because now they're reporting that Lance Bass is marrying Lorenzo Martone with Justin Timberlake as his best man.
The 2018 Winter Olympics will be held in Pyeongchang, disappointing my copy editors immensely, because they know I'll never be able to spell that consistently. It's also bad news for NBC, who owns the TV rights to something they won't be able to air live due to the time difference.

Happy Australia Day! Its officially January 26th down under, and "the day commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet at Sydney Cove in 1788, the hoisting of the British flag there, and the proclamation of British sovereignty over the eastern seaboard of New Holland." And don't forget the fireworks! We thought we'd pay tribute to our Aussie readers by spotlighting some of our favorite Australian celebs, starting above, with sportsmen Matthew Mitcham (who's new to our site) and Ian Roberts. I'm From Driftwood has spent the last two years traveling the world, and now they've released the first book collection of true Glbt stories. The Oprah Winfrey Network has announced that the new prime time series Home Takeover with Simon & Tomas will premiere on March 28. The hosts are "Scandinavia’s most celebrated pair of interior designers, Simon Davies and Tomas Cederlund." Here's how the press release describes it: "Staging a complete home takeover,...

Happy 89th Birthday to Betty White!
Below you can see the trailer for the upcoming The Green, which stars Jason Butler Harner as a gay school teacher accused of molesting a student, and Cheyenne Jackson as his partner. Julia Ormond and Illeana Douglas lend support in what looks to be a very intense film. There's no release date yet, but we'll keep you posted.
Jennifer Lopez proves once again that she should not be giving musical advice to anyone by releasing an absolutely wretched version of "Venus." Shocking Blue did the original, but the most famous version was performed by Bananarama, who took it to #1 in 1986 (and apropos of nothing, is #22 on the Snicks Top 100 of the 80's). In ratings news, last night's Golden Globes was on par with last year, while Desperate Housewives had the lowest ratings in the show's history. Brothers & Sisters had it a bit better ... it...

In one of the strangest confluences of talent I’ve ever heard of, Starz has greenlit Boss, a political drama starring Kelsey Gammer, written by Apocalypto’s Farhad Safinia, and the pilot will be directed by Gus Van Sant.
Good news – Calista Flockhart is taking at least three episodes off from Brothers & Sisters. Filling in for Kitty is Beau Bridges. Well, he’s going to be on the show. I doubt Beau can whine and have hair that bad.
The remake of Gambit, the 1966 comedy with Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine has funding and a director. But will they use the same costumes?
For the first time, a Glee single has debuted at #1 on the digital charts. “Teenage Dream” by Darren Criss sold 214,000 copies. One of those is on my iPhone.
Bristol Palin says that she and her sister Willow “shouldn't have reacted to negative comments about our family. We apologize.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand is reportedly close to recasting Andy Whitfield’s title role. Three actors are being flown to New Zealand to test for the part, and presumably to see how they look naked. Leading candidates are Canadian Stephen Amell, Brit Aiden Turner, and Australian Liam McIntyre. You can look over the goods and vote for your favorite here.
Jon Stryker has donated a huge amount of money to gay rights. But he’s also thrown a large amount of money toward protecting primates. And now he’s been rewarded, with a new ape being named in his honor, Rhinopithecus strykeri.
If you’ve recently (since Friday) ridden the California Screamin’ rollercoaster at Disney California Adventure, you might have heard a familiar voice. Neil Patrick Harris recorded some audio to the theme of a carnival barker to go with the ride.
Would you ever live your life built solely around The Advice of Strangers?...

You may be missing the point of a mask.
Here at Twitterwatch we spook easily. We like to spend our Halloween behind the computer where it's safe, not out with things that go bump in the night. Fortunately, other people like scary stuff, and we can experience a virtual Halloween without trying to pretend we can pull off the Sexy Fireman costume.
I thought it might be funny if Scott Evans went as the Human Torch or Captain America for Halloween, as some sort of ironic commentary on the fact that his brother tends to play dress up even when it's not Halloween. But that might be creepy in hindsight, and homemade costumes are always in fashion. That's a nice use of glitter, but it doesn't leave much mystery.

Hollywood, we need to talk. I loved the 80’s. My coworker snicks still thinks it Is the 80s. But you’ve got to stop trying to take us back to the 80’s. We do not need a sequel to Top Gun, complete with a smaller role for Maverick. I don’t care if Jerry Bruckheimer, Tony Scott and Tom Cruise are all on board, I will not see this.
Neil Patrick Harris is slipping behind the camera for his first big screen directing job. He’s going to direct Aaron and Sarah, starring Josh Hutcherson (newly 18, we can drool now) and Emma Stone. So he’s got quality talent to help him look good. I hope he has time, since CBS just ordered two extra episodes of How I Met Your Mother, making it a super-sized 24 episode season.

Let’s start off my late Meme with news from the Spurf™. He’s peddling a comment that the new Glee star Chord Overstreet gave him that while he may compete for Finn’s solos, he won’t necessarily compete for Rachel, because there are a lot of single people on the show. Cue the Kurt speculation. This would actually be awesome, because Chord is a country singer, and his dad is a major deal in Nashville. We could use some gay country representation on the male side, even if it’s fictional.
In the same piece, the Spurf™ says that while he doesn’t know which 90210 hunk is coming out of the closet (even if we think we do), whoever it is will soon be making out with Broadway vet Kyle Riabko,...

Well, at least the balls aren't blue.
Here at Twitterwatch, we're big fans of everyone being equal. Well, equal in all the important ways - we obviously place our celebrities on a pedestal. So it's great to know that our favorite celebrities also care about our rights, like how they reacted to the Prop 8 ruling. And don't worry, we have other things too. We'll celebrate Prop 8 at the end, O.K.? Let's start with people on the move.
Matthew Mitcham is presumably still wandering around the Gay Games in Cologne, Germany. I'm not sure if he's staying for Chrolli's September wedding or not, but he did pop in to bowl, or at least to pose for suggestive pictures with the equipment. I'm just impressed he made it over - he swore his boyfriend and his coach were certain he couldn't travel alone. He was confident he'd be all right as...

No Gay. Lesbian Joke. No Gay. Gay Joke. No Gay. Ooh, Look An Actual Gay!
This week the major networks announced their fall line-ups and mid-season replacements, and overall the news wasn't great for gay characters. Ugly Betty had already been deep-sixed on ABC, and as expected, NBC axed Trauma with gay paramedic Tyler and Mercy with gay nurse Angel, while the CW dropped Melrose Place, not that what's his face got much screentime anyway. Also not unexpectedly, ABC isn't bringing back the hilarious Better Off Ted which had two out actors Jonathan Slavin and Portia de Rossi, and which was usually gay-friendly.
Of the pilots that weren't picked up, the two biggest disappointments were ABC passing on the Cheyenne Jackson/Christopher Sieber sitcom It Takes a Village and CBS not going for the drama The Quinn-tuplets, both of which featured significant gay content.
So what did the networks go for of gay interest?...
