Tad the Explorer – aka Tad Stones the Chicago bricklayer – is onto his third adventure in new Enrique Gato feature, Tad the Lost Explorer and the Curse of the Mummy (or Tad the Lost Explorer and the Emerald Tablet in some regions) and is as accident-prone as ever as he tries to gain acceptance into the upper echelons of archaeological circles.
Indeed, we first see Tad (voiced by Trevor White) making a major discovery on a dig in Mexico led by the University of Chicago’s archaeological department which (naturally) all ends in disaster. Expelled from the site and leaving ever patient girlfriend Sara (Alex Kelly) behind, a crestfallen Tad returns home to decomposing old friend Mummy (Joseph Balderrama) who is as addicted to gadgets and social media as any youth is today (parents/guardians unite in rolling their collective eyes to the cinema ceiling in weary recognition here). However, in the chaos that follows,...

Only middling writing lets down the impressive-looking third instalment from an upstart Spanish studio, which follows a Chicago bricklayer’s quest to lift an ancient curse
Here is the third entry in a series of modestly budgeted, surprisingly profitable Spanish digimations, shrewdly placed at the end of the summer holidays to capitalise on any waning of interest in Minions and Super-Pets. Parents present for the long haul will have witnessed two stories unfolding, primarily how hapless Chicago bricklayer Tad Stones realised his dream of becoming a globetrotting Indiana Jones-like archaeologist.
The new one, however, is more intriguing: a pronounced narrowing of the gap between the American powerhouses who set the CGI bar and the upstart European studios who boosted their rendering capacity as those erstwhile market leaders began cutting corners. Tad’s sweetheart Sara (Alex Kelly) may possess a Disney look so comprehensive that you fear legal intervention, but...

Anyone out there who has been following Joseph Balderrama’s career would probably agree that he hasn’t gotten nearly as much credit as he deserves. The talented actor has shown time and time again that he has what it takes to play all kinds of different characters. Although he doesn’t always have the biggest roles, he does his best to leave a lasting impression on viewers. Now, he’s getting another chance to do just that. Joseph has a role in an upcoming Netflix original series called Heartstopper. The show tells the story of two teenage boys who discover that their close

"It's amazing you two are still going strong. Still using the same old material." Entertainment One UK has unveiled the first official trailer for Stan & Ollie, a movie about two movie legends - Laurel and Hardy. This comedy stars Steve Coogan as Stan Laurel and John C. Reilly as Oliver Hardy as they tour around the UK in what would become the pair's triumphant farewell tour. They struggle to maintain their friendship after so many years, but find joy again in performing for audiences, solidifying their timeless legacy. The full cast includes Shirley Henderson, Nina Arianda, Danny Huston, Stephanie Hyam, Rufus Jones, Susy Kane, and Joseph Balderrama. This looks stupendous! It's not really a biopic (thankfully) nor is it about their time in Hollywood, it seems to be about two good friends who love making people laugh. Enjoy. Here's the first official UK trailer (+ two posters) for Jon S. Baird's Stan & Ollie,...

Film locations often make for surprisingly good drama. Charles Wood's Veterans took us behind the scenes of The Charge of the Light Brigade. Here, Oliver Cotton's witty and perceptive play uses the shooting of a costume epic in rain-drenched Spain to explore British and American attitudes to life, art and the waiting game of making movies.
Cotton, who clearly knows the territory, creates a series of dramatic reversals. Two actors, the American Brad and English Stuart, are cooped up in a trailer waiting to shoot a scene in a film about Cortés's conquest of Mexico. But it is the seemingly brash Brad who can quote reams of Marlowe, while Stuart is momentarily stumped when asked to recite Shakespeare. And while Stuart attacks the status-consciousness of American actors and the imperialist pretensions of Hollywood, it is Brad who turns out to be made of the right stuff.
