Joe Don Rooney, best known for playing guitar in one of country music’s most successful groups, Rascal Flatts, has broken his long silence since pleading guilty to a 2021 DUI. In a lengthy social-media post, he affirmed his sobriety and also dispelled a rumor that he was transitioning.
“There have been so many rumors and opinions thrown around about me — but I’m finally healthy and ready for the world. And No, I’m not transitioning to be a woman,” he wrote. “That thought has never entered my mind. Nothing...

Jason Isbell revs up Johnny Cash’s trucker anthem “All I Do Is Drive” for the soundtrack to the new Netflix film The Ice Road. Both film and soundtrack are out now.
For his version, Isbell adopts Cash’s signature rhythm and fills out the arrangement with some extra rock & roll muscle in the form of lightly distorted guitars that match the walking patterns of the original. He also shifts it to a different key to account for the differences in their range. The end result has the feel of...

“Same shit, different century,” Billy Strings sings in his new song “Wargasm,” an indictment of warmongering and the military-industrial complex. It’s an ominous, brooding bluegrass number based around guitar, mandolin, and sawed fiddle. But it’s the guest spot by the enigmatic rapper Rmr that puts it over the top.

Life is a highway, and you never know what detours lie ahead. At the start of 2020, Gary LeVox and the members of Rascal Flatts were preparing for an unforgettable year. But when the coronavirus pandemic put a pause on touring, Gary found a unique opportunity to do something he's always had on his bucket list. With a bit more time on his hands, the 50-year-old Nashville resident was able to create his first solo gospel project titled One On One. On Tuesday, the 88-year-old English singer issued a statement of “shock and disbelief” that her song was the prelude to such a crime.

News of Michael Busbee’s death at 43 on Sunday resonated throughout Nashville and the music community at large. A respected songwriter and producer, he was a creative partner to Nashville artists like Maren Morris, Keith Urban, and Lady Antebellum, deftly bringing a pop sensibility to country music. And for good reason: he got his start writing and producing pop acts like Shakira and Christina Aguilera. Here are 10 songs, either written or produced (or both), by Busbee that highlight his strong yet unshowy approach in the studio and the writing room.

When Jay DeMarcus, Joe Don Rooney and Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts started planning the new stage show for their nine-day residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, they looked for inspiration in some unexpected places. "We love Penn & Teller," DeMarcus told People of emulating acts who've had long-term success in Sin City. "We might add some illusion. We might also borrow some stuff from Carrot Top. We've been in talks with the Cirque du Soleil producers, so expect skimpy costumes, acrobats and a trapeze. Maybe even a Blue Man Group thing if we can find tights that fit.

The members of Rascal Flatts know how to put on a good show, but the tables were turned on them Wednesday when they ended up in the audience of a show that left them spellbound. "They blew us away, to be honest," frontman Gary LeVox tells People of being treated to a performance by the fifth-graders at Miramonte Elementary in Los Angeles. LeVox and his bandmates Jay DeMarcus and Joe Don Rooney watched with smiles on their faces as the students - some of whom only began learning to play their instruments a few months ago - jammed out to...

Carrie Underwood couldn't stop the waterworks as she accepted the Gene Weed Special Achievement Award at the 8th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors in Nashville Tuesday night. "The Academy has been so good to me, country music has been so good to me," the singer said with a smile before a wave of emotion hit. She tried again, "I had so much to say," before admitting through tears, "But I forget it all! What's wrong with me?" Emcee Jake Owen was empathetic. Referencing Underwood's recently announced pregnancy, he turned to the singer's husband, Mike Fisher, seated below the stage.

Fans of Rascal Flatts know that the guys in the band, Gary LeVox, Jay DeMarcus, and Joe Don Rooney, are a very good time. We caught up with the trio at New York's most country bar, Johnny Utah's, to learn about life on the road and how their love of a good late-night snack - with tourmate Sheryl Crow - has made their new partnership with Nexium more perfect than they could have imagined.

After 14 years of touring together, the guys of Rascal Flatts have become experts about life on the road - including its unhealthful temptations. "On the road, we eat late and we don't eat as healthy as we should," says lead singer Gary LeVox. "When you get on the bus after the gig, every bus has got 10 pizzas on it. I don't know whoever came up with that brilliant idea, but now it's the standard." Not that they're complaining. "We all freaking love pizza!" says guitarist Joe Don Rooney. Now in the midst of their current cross-country Rewind tour, the three...

It was Robert Downey Jr.’s birthday and what better way to celebrate than to throw a Captain America viewing party. Wait, we didn’t think Iron Man and Captain America liked each other. Still, it was probably pretty cool to be the kids invited to the party. If only Thor were there.

Do the members of Rascal Flatts wish they could rewind their controversial performance at the 2014 Academy of Country Music Awards Sunday night? The band took to social media Monday to defend themselves after fans complained that the group - and, in particular, lead singer Gary LeVox - appeared to lip-sync their new song "Rewind" during the Las Vegas awards show. "After having performed several shows earlier in the week, Gary lost his voice. So, instead of canceling our commitment to do the show, we made a last minute decision to lip-sync. We've never done it before, and we're obviously not very good at it.

Fans of Rascal Flatts thought that something was off about their performance Sunday night at the Acm Awards, and it turns out that they were right. Rumors began swirling that the band appeared to be singing to a backup track, or worse yet, not singing live altogether. Days after their appearance on the awards show, the band admitted that they were lip-synching their hit "Rewind." But the beloved country band had a good reason for why they weren't performing live… They revealed on both Twitter and Facebook that lead singer Gary LeVox had lost his voice shortly before stepping onstage. "After having performed several shows earlier in the week, Gary lost his voice,"...

Las Vegas—No genre embraces the American way of life with such unbridled patriotic fervor as country music, so paying tribute to the U.S. military seemed like a natural fit. But “Acm Presents: An All-Star Salute to the Troops” took what could have been a flag-waving, jingoistic exercise and turned it into a meaningful, often moving salute by not only honoring men and women in all branches of the armed services, but by including them as performers. And some of them threatened to steal the show from the professionals. Taped Monday (April 8), the night after the Acm Awards, and airing May 20 on CBS, the All-Star Salute featured top names such as Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shelton, Miranda Lambert , Toby Keith, Hunter Hayes, Dierks Bentley, and more. Hosted by “NCIS: Los Angeles” stars Chris O’ Donnell and LL Cool J (who must have a pact...

From a viewer's standpoint it seemed Rascal Flatts did pretty well on their 2014 Acm awards performance last night (April 6), but apparently that wasn't exactly the case.
Some fans felt that the group's performance of their new hit "Rewind" seemed a bit off, and that seemed to hold true as the group now admits they were actually lip synching.
According to TMZ, the band said that lead singer, Gary LeVox, had lost his voice due to several shows before the Acm's, and instead of cancelling last minute they decided to try and lip sync.
Unfortunately, it didn't work out so well and they later acknowledged the mishap, saying, "We've never done it before, and we're obviously not very good at it." Check out a video of the performance for yourself in the player below.

American Idol's Top 10 men have one thing in common: Like the best/worst politicians, they're sure that their "sincerity" and teary-eyed stage presence warrant massive attention. Please, Curtis Finch Jr. Admittedly, this is a batch of mostly good vocalists and fine dressers (with a couple of notable exceptions, like the now-deflated phenomenon known as Charlie Askew), but the male half of season 12 reeks of eager-to-please spinelessness. I wouldn't write off a few of these chaps, though. Not by a long shot.
Let's rank 'em all, worst to first. Be sure to look out for my livid appraisal of Keith Urban's horrible judging. Cheers!
10. Charlie Askew, Genesis' "Mama"
Dear lord. I don't know what's more grating: Charlie's elfin whine or his entitled attitude and crocodile tears. After screeching this Genesis tune with as little attention to pitch as possible, Mr. Askew proceeded to fuel his own breakdown during the judges' critiques.

A woman is going to win Season 12 of American Idol — even if executive producer Nigel Lythgoe is forced to stage a crossover episode with Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom, plant a couple of hungry lionesses down in the SwayBot pit and let the male contestants get picked off in violent, carnivorous fashion.

At the 2012 Cmt Awards, country super trio Rascal Flatts took the stage with iconic stadium rock group Journey for the end-of-the-night performance. Rascal Flatts kicked off the medley with "Banjo," which they performed with actor Steve Martin for the 2012 Academy of Country Music Awards back on April 1.
The "Banjo" performance led into Journey taking the stage - well, Journey with new frontman Arnel Pineda, original bassist Ross Valory and original guitarist/vocalist Neal Schon - for the band's biggest hit, "Don't Stop Believing," which Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox joined in on.
The lead singer is no Steve Perry, that's for darn sure, but Schon can still wail on the electric guitar. We actually would've liked if some earlier stuff had been cut a little shorter and they had performed a few more Journey songs - "Separate Ways" has always been our personal favorite.
What did you think of the closing number?...
