Jose Cancela(II)
Jose Cancela is the President of Telemundo Station Group, the division of NBCUniversal that oversees their Telemundo stations in 31 markets across the U.S. and Puerto Rico, including in each of the top 20 U.S. Hispanic TV markets. He was President and COO of Telemundo Station Group from 1992 to 1998 and returned to his role as President in January of 2024. In this position, he works closely with NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. Cancela is a 35-year-plus veteran media executive. He previously served as the President of Telemundo Puerto Rico, President of Telemundo's Los Angeles station KVEA, and President of Univision Communications. He ran for Mayor of Miami-Dade County in 2004, but finished fifth place with 12% of the vote in an open primary despite his campaign raising $1.8 million. After the failed bid for Mayor, he returned to the private sector, resuming work as a media executive and authoring the book "The Power of Business en Espanol: Unlocking the Potential of the Spanish-Language Hispanic Market." Cancela is the father of former Nevada State Senator and Biden administration official Yvanna Cancela and step-father of Saturday Night Live (1975) cast member Marcello Hernández.
