It’s officially “Bridgerton” Season, which means brushing up on all the gossip in the ton as the Netflix hit returns. Who fought, who won, who got married, and who will take a wife? All this and more will matter greatly when the Shondaland series premieres on May 16, with Part 2 due in June.
Season 3 will focus on the courtship of Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) — a.k.a. Lady Whistledown, one of the slight complications in these two’s friends-to-lovers journey. Ahead of that, let’s revisit key Season 2 plot points that could play a key role in Season 3…

It’s not easy being a member of the Featherington flock in “Bridgerton.”
Their gambling addicted father was murdered and left them with very little in their coffers at the end of Season 1. Their mother, Lady Portia, is one of the pushiest mamas in the ton (who dresses her girls like citrus fruit baskets each and every season). And, after several years on the marriage mart, only one of the young ladies – middle sister Philipa – has met a suitable match.
Still, eldest daughter Prudence Featherington, played by Bessie Carter, keeps at it, trying her best to land a husband, even if in Season 2 that meant being forced into an engagement with her cousin (we assume several times removed) Jack after Portia “caught” the two unchaperoned in an orangery. Scandal? Pish posh!
“I don’t even think she cares,” Carter tells TheWrap of how her character Prudence would look at any ton outcry over the incident.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the Season 2 of Bridgerton.] Bridgerton is filled to the teacup brim with drama, but nothing has been more dramatic than the Season 2 finale which saw one major secret revealed. Eloise (Claudia Jessie) finally unveiled the true identity of Lady Whistledown as her best friend Penelope (Nicola Coughlan). Needless to say, the betrayal loomed large in the season’s final moments, but that wasn’t the only way Penelope’s life was turned upside down. After her crush, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), exposed her cousin Jack’s (Rupert Young) scheme to sell the Ton fake rubies, Penelope was left in awe of Colin’s efforts to protect her and her family. But the warm and fuzzy feelings didn’t last long after the pair shared some special moments, like a declaration of how special Penelope is to Colin along with a dance at the Featherington ball, he turned his back and dismissed her as ...

This Bridgerton review contains spoilers.
Bridgerton season 2 returns to Netflix today with a new Bridgerton sibling’s quest to make a suitable marriage match. Season 2 improves on season 1 by shifting the show to an ensemble-based narrative which is essential for building the conflicts and relationships for future seasons. The central relationship dynamic combining the enemies-to-lovers and love triangle romance fiction tropes equally satisfies series readers and show-only fans alike. Bridgerton once again takes the necessary stance that people of color deserve to be represented in alternate historical fiction and escapist historical fiction.
Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) has been Viscount Bridgerton ever since his father died of a bee sting when he was 18. He spent most of last season guiding his sister Daphne (Phoebe Dyvenor) through the marriage market while avoiding settling down. Anthony has now decided he’s finally ready to stop the revolving door of mistresses and one-night stands and find a wife.

Bridgerton season one arrived on December the 25th 2020 like a highly decorated Christmas gift. Unwrapped, it was a perfect confection of untaxing indulgence, romance and escapism. It told the story of Daphne and Simon, a debutante beauty and an emotionally repressed Duke who teamed up to get everybody off their backs, and who ended up getting on their own backs, and fronts, and sides, and – if I remember this correctly – halfway up the stairs and possibly at one point, a ladder? It was all a marvellous distraction from the real world, with excellent casting that threw open the fusty, cobwebbed door of racially homogeneous period drama to revitalise an over-familiar world.
Now it’s back for season two, with a new romantic plot-line and a bunch of new characters. Here’s who we’ll be meeting across the eight episodes, plus the major returning cast being welcomed back.

Last year Netflix brought some semblance of light into a dark 2020 with the release of “Bridgerton,” a Regency-era romance series based off the novels by Julia Quinn. The show was stunningly beautiful, both in its cast and costumes, and led to more than a few embarrassed tweets from viewers who didn’t expect its Nsfw sexiness to be something they couldn’t watch alongside grandma. The over year-long wait for Season 2 has raised the stakes while also making audiences say, “Oh, that’s finally coming back.” All of that feels inescapable while watching this new season.
“This is the first chapter in a happy story,” the audience is told by Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Kate, her mother, and younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) are new to the ton from India. Netflix has debuted the full trailer for the highly anticipated second season of ‘Bridgerton.’
The second season follows Lord Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey), the eldest Bridgerton sibling and Viscount, as he sets out to find a suitable wife. Driven by his duty to uphold the family name, Anthony’s search for a debutante who meets his impossible standards seems ill-fated until Kate (Simone Ashley) and her younger sister Edwina (Charithra Chandran) Sharma arrive from India.
When Anthony begins to court Edwina, Kate discovers the true nature of his intentions — a true love match is not high on his priority list — and decides to do everything in her power to stop the union. But in doing so, Kate and Anthony’s verbal sparring matches only bring them closer together, complicating matters on both sides. There's a new love story at the wheel of Bridgerton when it returns for its second season on March 25.
Netflix unveiled a full-length trailer for Bridgerton Season 2, and there's a lot to unpack.
At the top of the new footage, Lady Violet Bridgerton gets everyone talking by introducing the competition for her son's heart.
“This is the season the Viscount intends to find a wife,” she says to a packed room.
We are quickly introduced to Kate Sharma and her sister Edwina, who have recently arrived from India.
The trailer teases a complicated romance for Anthony and Kate as they both try to imply they're not into one another.
It makes for many fun scenes, including Anthony tripping over Kate's beautiful dog and falling into a river.
The pair go back and forth in what can only be described as verbal sparring matches.

Netflix has released a full trailer for the upcoming second season of its breakout romantic drama series “Bridgerton.”
The trailer focuses on the love triangle between Anthony Bridgerton (Jonathan Bailey) and sisters Edwina (Charithra Chandran) and Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). Anthony begins to court Edwina after she arrives from India, spurring a protectiveness in Kate that ends up bringing herself and Anthony closer together.
“What happens when duty is in conflict with the heart’s true desire?” Julie Andrews’ gossip-chronicling narrator Lady Whistledown questions in the teaser. “Then there is potential for a considerable scandal indeed.”
Beyond the romantic trio, the new footage also features teases of a Pall Mall game, horse racing and the expected “Bridgerton” sprinkles of nudity.
The series also stars Adjoa Andoh, Lorraine Ashbourne, Harriet Cains, Bessie Carter, Shelley Conn, Nicola Coughlan, Phoebe Dynevor, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Martins Imhangbe, Claudia Jessie, Calam Lynch, Luke Newton,...

Dearest gentle readers, did you miss me?
Netflix on Monday unveiled our most extensive look at Bridgerton Season 2 to date, and everyone in the ton should be afraid.
The 60-second spectacular shows many of the characters and their conflicts on the season ahead while teasing that things are about to get worse for them.
The crafty editing shows the real Lady Whistledown in the final shot.
Penelope Featherington is loving this status as the person who doles out these insights and secrets about some of the most powerful people.
Will it come crashing down, or will Penelope continue to hide her true identity from her peers?
It was risky to unmask the omniscient writer on Bridgerton Season 1, but if there's one thing this show has taught us, it's that it plays with expectations.

Netflix's biggest series ever is closing in on a comeback.
The streamer on Saturday dropped a first-look at Bridgerton Season 2, and it's everything we hoped it would be.
Simone Ashley (Sex Education) was announced as the female lead for the second season, to star opposite Jonathan Bailey (Anthony Bridgerton).
The first teaser shows Anthony meeting with Ashley's character, and the latter is less than thrilled with Anthony's comments on his future wife.
Yes, Anthony has some high demands, and yes, there's going to be a lot of sudsy drama.
It will be fun to see this new love story take place, and it looks very different from Daphne and Simon's road to love in the first season, which is very good in our book.

Bridgerton fans might need to brace themselves for another big departure.
Phoebe Dynevor is set to star on Bridgerton Season 2, but her role won't be as prominent as it was when she was the female lead in the freshman season.
Now, news has emerged that the beloved actress is working on the TV adaptation of Exciting Times.
According to Deadline, the star has signed on to executive produce and potentially star in the drama series adaptation of the Naoise Dolan novel.
The series is described as “bracingly intelligent, hilarious and raw” and centers on Ava, the role Dynevor could play.
Ava is an Irish transplant abroad teaching English grammar to wealthy children who becomes entangled in a love triangle with banker Julian and lawyer Edith.
Bridgerton burst onto the scene at the end of last year, propelling Dynevor and co-star Rege-Jean Page to global stardom.

After multiple Covid-19 related shutdowns, Bridgerton Season 2 is back in production.
The news, first reported by Variety, comes two weeks after production was halted for the second time in a few days.
Showrunner Chris Van Dusen dished the news to the outlet.
"We are back underway. We had to delay because of Covid, but we're back in it. Right now I'm in post [production], editing our first couple episodes, which are looking great," he said.
It's good to know a bunch of episodes are already in the can, but there's no telling when the series might return now.
The delays will probably have caused some problems for any unofficially announced premiere dates. It's likely Netflix wanted this to launch in December, much like the first season.
While much is still up in the air, Van Dusen recently revealed to Deadline that fans are not "going to be ready" for what's on tap.

Production on Bridgerton Season 2 is not going smoothly.
The Netflix juggernaut has been shut down for the second time in a week due to another positive Covid test.
Deadline first reported the news, while also confirming that there is no definite return to production.
The series was first shut down on Thursday for 24 hours after a crew member tested positive, but it was brought to a halt again on Friday due to another positive test.
The indefinite hiatus is concerning because it could suggest that a cast member tested positive for Covid-19.
Bridgerton burst onto screens in December and quickly became a huge success for Netflix, going on to snag a three-season renewal and an order for a spinoff.
Netflix declared Bridgerton to be a success story by saying it was watched by a record 82 million Netflix households around the world and towered above the streamer's other offerings.

Pick up your dance card, put on your best gown, brew some tea, and find a comfy spot on the couch, because Bridgerton season two is officially in production. The highly anticipated second season of Netflix's original series based on the novels from Julia Quinn was confirmed in an official statement from Lady Whistledown in January. "The incomparable cast of Bridgerton will return to production in the Spring of 2021," she wrote. "This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities." Heart equals burning - I need answers, Ms. Whistledown!

Regé-Jean Page may not be a part of the Bridgerton Season 2 cast, but Simon Basset will not be forgotten.
Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne on the Netflix hit, has opened up about how Page's exit will impact the second season.
As you will recall, Daphne and Simon were very much together at the close of Bridgerton Season 1, with the pair welcoming a newborn son into the world.
"I think he'll definitely be referred to a lot," the actress explained in a chat with The Wrap.
"I think we'll see the baby. And we'll just focus more on [Daphne's] relationship with the Bridgerton Family."
As previously reported, Bridgerton Season 2 will focus on Anthony Bridgerton's search for love.
"It's definitely different," Dynevor said of the sophomore run.
"And I've said it before, but I think the fans who have read the books and know the books are aware that every season will focus on a different sibling's journey.

Bridgerton is adding another beloved actor to its cast.
The streamer on Friday announced that Charmed star Rupert Evans is joining the sudsy drama's second season.
Evans has been tapped to play Edmund, the loving and devoted husband of Violet Bridgerton.
According to the streamer, Violet is Edmund's true love, and she gave him eight perfect children.
He’s also an endlessly patient and kind father who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son Anthony through life.
Bridgerton Season 2 is already in production in London and will chart Anthony Bridgerton's (Jonathan Bailey) quest to find his person.
Now, you may be wondering how Edmund will be a part of the narrative, especially because Bridgerton Season 1 already revealed the character had passed away.
The series has not explained how he died, but Julia Quinn's novels revealed the character died of a bee sting.

The final image in Bridgerton‘s first season, a bee on a windowsill, teased a Season 2 storyline involving Edmund Bridgerton. Charmed star Rupert Evans has been cast as the Bridgerton siblings’ late father in the hugely popular Regency-era Netflix series from Shondaland.
Evans’ Edmund is a loving and devoted husband, whose true love match with Violet Bridgerton gave them eight perfect children. He’s also an endlessly patient and kind father, who takes special pride in guiding his eldest son Anthony through life.
Season 2 of Bridgerton, currently in production in London, focuses on Anthony Bridgerton’s (Jonathan Bailey) quest for love as chronicled in the second book from Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series The Viscount Who Loved Me.
Edmund’s death at age 38 from an allergic reaction to a bee sting had a profound impact on his eldest child, Anthony, who had to take over the viscounty when he was just 18 years old.

Shelley Conn (Liar) and Calam Lynch (Benediction) are the latest new cast addition for Season 2 of Bridgerton, Netflix and Shondaland’s hugely popular Regency-era period drama series based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels.
They join previously cast Season 2 female lead Simone Ashley, who plays Kate Sharma; Charithra Chandran who plays Edwina Sharma; and Rupert Young who plays Jack, a new character not in the books.
Next season, slated to begin production this spring in the UK, will chronicle the pursuit of a suitable marriage for the eldest Bridgerton sibling, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as chronicled in the second book of Quinn’s Bridgerton series, The Viscount Who Loved Me.
Ashley plays Anthony’s romantic interest, Kate Sharma. Newly arrived in London, Kate is a smart, headstrong young woman who suffers no fools — Anthony Bridgerton very much included.
Chandran plays her younger sister, Edwina, who first catches the Viscount’s attention.

Can you believe it's been seven years since Colin Morgan's boy wizard first strode onto our screens?
The series premiere of Merlin on September 20, 2008 set us off on a magical five-year journey - one with mythical monsters, wicked warlocks and excessive amounts of bromantic banter.
Millions tuned in each Saturday night for the show's blend of fun, fantasy and friendship - because Merlin and Arthur (Bradley James) were definitely just friends, Ok? - but what's happened to Camelot's finest since that epic final episode?
Colin Morgan
The aged Emrys might still be waiting for King Arthur to revive, but Merlin lead Colin Morgan hasn't lain dormant these past few years. He appeared opposite fellow Irish legend Gabriel Byrne in BBC One's moody detective drama Quirke in 2014, was seduced by Gillian Anderson as mercurial copper Tom Anderson in The Fall and played cyborg Leo in Channel 4's smash hit Humans.

Colin Morgan, Bradley James, blah, blah, blah. Yes, they're hot, but how about a little love for Rupert Young (Sir Leon), Tom Hopper (Sir Percival) and Eoin Macken (Gwaine).
Stoner Brett (Ryan Heinke) may be unkempt and reek of weed, but this hot ginger is sweet-natured and well ... mellow. He might not be ... typical beefcake , but he definitely gives us the munchies.

Organisers of the McM Manchester Comic Con 2012 say the event enjoyed a record number of visitors.
More than 11,300 gamers, sci-fi fans, anime aficionados and comic collectors flocked through the doors of Manchester Central last weekend - almost double the attendance of 2011's inaugural event.
"We were delighted with 2011, but 2012 was so beyond our expectations," said Manchester Comic Con co-organiser Bryan Cooney. "We knew we would have a great show but the turnout was even greater than we expected.
"The atmosphere was wonderful. We look forward to returning to Manchester next year and hopefully an even bigger crowd and hall."
Manga UK's head of marketing and acquisitions Jerome Mazandarani said: "Manga loved attending McM Manchester Comic Con. It was our first, but won't be our last. It was excellently organised and very well attended. Manchester is an amazing city and its people are warm and friendly. It was a great atmosphere.
