Kanye West appears on the "Today" show
Photo: NBC
When Kanye West complained to Matt Lauer about a clip airing during his "Today" show interview, it all sounded eerily familiar. West actually issued a similar complaint, albeit more politely, to MTV News just a few weeks ago.
On October 23, after MTV premiered West's new 35-minute movie, "Runaway," he sat down with Sway to discuss the movie and his process for directing it. A small portion of the interview aired live on MTV before continuing to be streamed on MTV.com.
During the Internet portion of the interview, Sway posed a question to West about the scene in the film when West and the phoenix (played by Selita Ebanks) attend a parade featuring several people wearing hoods and a giant bust of Michael Jackson.

Last season on "Jersey Shore," the tanned and terrific kids spent their downtime in Seaside Heights working at a T-shirt shop on the boardwalk. Now both the Situation and JWoww are launching their own clothing lines.
Might any of the "Shore" crew get into the dessert business soon? Because on the hit reality show's second season, the cast goes to work at a gelato joint in Miami's South Beach. The place is called Lecca Lecca Gelato Caffé, and it's owned by a genial Italian-American man named Enzo Biondi, who shared some of his memories of toiling alongside Sitch, Snooki and the rest of their pals.

The "Jersey Shore" cast got America fist-pumping last year when they launched their hit reality-tv series with more than a few drunken nights, brawls and hookups. But in season two, which kicks off Thursday, the castmembers tell MTV News they plan to beat dat beat even harder this time around — if that's even possible.
Their celebrity fans certainly want more fights and hot-tub sessions this season, and the "Shore" cast promises that in Miami that will definitely be the case.
"I am excited for people to see season two. It is 1,000 times more dramatic and just, overall, 1,000 times better than 'Jersey Shore' 1," an enthusiastic JWoww told MTV News. "More drama, make-ups,...

While her present circumstances may appear bleak, an addiction expert tells us that there is hope for the actress. Robert J. Lindsey, president and CEO of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (Ncadd) told MTV News that despite her personal and professional trials, Lohan can bounce back.
"Without question, Lindsay can recover. We have seen over and over people whose lives have progressed to the point where they lose their job, they lose their family, they lose their physical health, they lose their freedom. Was it real or fake? That's the question many fans seem to be considering since credits rolled on "The Hills" for the last time on Tuesday night. The show's creator, Adam Divello, revealed on Thursday (July 15) that the final moment between Brody and Kristin was staged. But a onetime castmember of the hit reality series, PR maven Kelly Cutrone — now on MTV's "The City" — insists that everything else on the show is for real.
"Well, not really, because the show's not scripted," Cutrone told MTV News when asked whether fans should now re-think the show given the finale episode. "It's just not. I've been on the show, it's not scripted.

Lady Gaga and Cyndi Lauper spent a great deal of time together on Wednesday promoting their new Viva Glam line of lipsticks, the proceeds from which benefit the M.A.C. AIDS fund.
When MTV News spent a few minutes with the ladies in the afternoon, the two told us how they chose the shades for their individual lipsticks. It was a spiel they had no doubt repeated over and over again all day long to many different press outlets. And that's when Gaga let is slip: It turns out the pop provocateur used to have a mullet.
"It was made out of my favorite M.A.C. color when I was living downtown in New York on the Lower East Side," said Gaga of her lipstick shade, "and I had this very dark, sort of mullet haircut, and umm…"
At this point, Cyndi interjects, just a little bit surprised.

Lady Gaga isn't afraid to speak her mind. Neither is her mentor, Cyndi Lauper. That's just one of the reasons they were asked to be the faces — and lips — behind the Mac AIDS Fund's Viva Glam campaign, which donates 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of lipstick and lip gloss to the global fight against AIDS and HIV.
But on Wednesday (February 10) in New York, they decided to let the lipstick do the talking.
"We want to spread the word that women are at risk and that you can avoid contracting HIV and AIDS. And this lipstick a little reminder," Lauper said. "It's a great gift for Valentine's Day. It's a great gift for Chinese New Year.

There was an unexpected cosmic shift early Sunday evening (January 31) when two reality megastars suddenly came face-to-face on the Grammy red carpet.
We sent Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, the star of MTV's "Jersey Shore," to nab a few celebrity interviews for MTV News as the various music industry headliners made their way into the Staples Center. But when Kathy Griffin, the Emmy-winning comedian and star of "My Life on the D-List," walked up, Snickers barely got a word in.
"Snooks, do you know who I am? Because you’re very young," Griffin asked. (A reasonable question, as Snooki wasn't always certain who she was talking to. Right Phoenix? And Judas Priest?)
"Yes, I do," said Snooki. Apparently, she watches Kathy all the time.
"I talk about you and your show in my act all over this country when I'm touring," said Griffin. It's a sentiment that seemed to genuinely touch the Snookster,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. With that, combined with the quarter-century anniversary of one of the finest film soundtracks ever constructed (that being Prince's Purple Rain), this week's question is:...

'Hills' star revealed her battle with the eating disorder to help inform others about the disease.

"Hills" star Stephanie Pratt surprised many of her fans this week when she decided to open up about her struggle with bulimia, which she kept well hidden from the cameras while on the show. Pratt said she made the revelation increase awareness about the eating disorder, and she's probably already made many fans ask, "What exactly is bulimia?"
By definition, a person suffering from bulimia nervosa, a serious psychiatric illness, has episodes of binge eating followed by self-induced vomiting and/or the use of laxatives or other means of eliminating the food. The disease can be triggered by a number of different factors, according to Danielle Shelov, a psychologist at New York's Columbus Park Collaborative, where she helps treat eating disorders.

On Sunday evening, the Tony Awards, celebrating the best of Broadway, will be presented at Radio City Musical Hall. And while the shows on the Great White Way this season might not be the most MTV-friendly fare (another “Guys and Dolls” revival?), the Tony producers chose a host with a broad spectrum of fans: star of stage, screen and Internet, Neil Patrick Harris.
“This is certainly a different way to go than a rock concert,” Harris told MTV today, “but it’s story-based, and I think a lot of the music is really great.
“A lot of people attribute, I think, Broadway and musicals with, like, jazz hands and razzmatazz, but there’s a show this season called ‘Next to Normal’ about a woman that’s going through mental issues. ‘Rock of Ages’ is a jukebox musical full of ’80s hits with Constantine Maroulis, which is really a pretty kick-ass show.

Last week, "American Idol" vet Clay Aiken slammed Adam Lambert in a long blog post. Referring to Lambert's performance of "Ring of Fire" on the show, Aiken wrote, "I thought my ears would bleed. Contrived, awful and slightly frightening. I wasn't really a fan and found myself surprised whenever folks told me they liked him." Aiken quickly removed the post and later apologized.
On Thursday, Lambert responded.
"I don't know Clay," he told "Access Hollywood". "I'm glad he's getting headlines now because he wasn't before. If he wants to ride my coattails about it, good for him."
To be fair, Aiken hasn't exactly been out of headlines in recent months, He appeared in the season finale of "30 Rock" earlier this month ("I was so sad when I left," Aiken said.
